Karvelic stands 6’ 2” tall, rather short compared to other Akalaks, and carries approximately 230 lbs. of pure, lean muscle. He is known around Riverfall for his dark appearance. While all Akalaks bear midnight blue skin tone, Karvelic falls on the far end of the spectrum, giving him a nearly jet black appearance. To further accentuate his darkness, Karvelic wears a dark hood, only allowing his pale blue eyes and long crooked nose to peak through. His face is nearly covered with a colorful red and green tattoo, clearly marking him as Cerulean to his fellow Akalaks. His long stringy hair falls far down his back; so far that he is forced to braid it over itself to avoid dragging the ground.
Character Concept
Karvelic has always been a reserved and quiet individual, mostly keeping to himself. Rather than throwing himself into a crowd, he's the one you'll most likely see stuffed into the corner at the bar, carefully analyzing his surroundings. This is not to say that he isn't approachable, or does not make friends, but don't expect an extrovert. Due to being labeled a Cerulean, he prefers to keep a low profile and avoid the judgmental glances from others.
Karvelic stands for justice, and will take any means necessary to see that it's done, but don't confuse him for a "good guy." His morals are gray, and he deals justice to whom he pleases. He doesn't play right and wrong, but chooses his own side, and destroys those in his path.
Karvelic hates sympathy! Having encountered a multitude of turmoil during his lifetime, he views his survival as a testament to his strength. He rarely asks for help, and only does so when a situation is dire, or he finds a way to benefit. Karvelic has yet to find an adversary or comrade as wise and cunning as himself, but accepts the challenge.
Karvelic is taunted by the dark brother side of his personality, having never gained the ability to balance the light and the dark. He has named the dark brother Corvanin. Corvanin is the soul inside which is highly effected by emotion. Whereas Karvelic looks at love, loss and pain with coolness, Corvanin is moved to fits of rage, sadness and depression.
Karvelic has returned to Riverfall to heal the wounds of his past. Though Corvanin has been the most prevalent part of his personality since his young age, he hopes to change things by suppressing his dark tendencies. Karvelic continues to struggle with balancing Corvanin and Karvelic so he can begin managing the trials of life and assimilate into society, to become an upstanding citizen who is respected.
Character History
Karvelic grew up as most Akalaks, in the comfort of the city of Riverfall, training to become a strong warrior. After his Rite of trial and Rite of passage, he fell in love with a new resident of Riverfall, a Human woman. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, and they soon began a secret relationship. Every night they would meet at the Knirin Gardens and would watch the waterfall shimmer in the moonlight while they talked for hours. Unfortunately, her father wasn’t as keen on the idea as she was, and he forbade her to speak to Karvelic again. In a fit of rage, Karvelic lost control of his light brother, and his dark brother emerged, convincing him to kill the Human woman’s father.
When Karvelic regained control minutes later, his Human lover stood staring at him in horror of his actions. He tried to explain, but she wouldn’t listen. She told him that she could never forgive him for the pain he had caused, and she could not leave her heart open and stare into the eyes of someone who would take away someone she loved. She told him to leave her forever.
His murder was reported to the Council of Elders and he was brought before the ten and sentenced to a fight to the death at the Gideon Combat Arena against a male relative of the father's family. After a couple of hours, his Human lover's brother stormed into the City Council Chambers and demanded to fight Karvelic to the death.
The two were whisked away to the arena to fight, and a crowd had already gathered there. In the crowd was his Human lover, scowling at him through tears. Unfortunately for her brother, he was no match for Karvelic, who had trained his entire life to fight. Within minutes, the fight was over and Karvelic stood over his enemie's lifeless body. The vision of his lover mouthing the words, "I hate you" and running out through the angry crowds would forever haunt his dreams.
As per custom, Karvelic's face was tattooed and he was marked as Cerulean, forever to be seen by his brethren as dangerous and unable to control his personalities. Karvelic was so distraught that he left his family and Riverfall, and wandered the realm of Mizahar for over 100 years. For many years he would return to Riverfall to watch his Human lover, to protect her, but he never let her know he was near. He vowed that the pain of lost love was too great, and he vowed to never love again.
