Summer 56, 512 AV
The Kelvic woke up to the faint stream of sunlight shining on her through the trees, and the soft, hard dirt under her paws. She decided to sleep in the wild last night, as it was her favorite spot to sleep and was always inviting. The sounds and sights and smells of the wild always calmed Sylkra and made her feel at home.
She yawned, and then stretched her paws out after getting onto her feet. She lifted her hind up, and then stretched herself as far as she could. The tension that it brought to her muscles eased them from the stillness of sitting there all night. The sun was not visible, the trees were in the way, although the sky was a bright blue and shined on Sylkra's cream fur.
Once her morning yoga was over, she picked up her sack next to her and trotted over to a bush, where she carefully hid it for later.
The morning was normal, Sylkra thought it would have been a great day, until she heard shrieks and the sounds of wings flapping. Immediately, her senses lifted and she was smelling the air, but not the faintest scent of anything was there. Nothing unusual, at least. But she could sense a paranormal presence, it was far worse than any she had ever sensed, besides the terrible Nuits. Sylkra barked, a warning one, and her eyes flashed with annoyance and anger. She ran back to the center of the clearing she had slept in, and looking up into the sky, barked, a threatening one.
Soon, some sort of large bats swooped down into the clearing, and Sylkra growled and snarled. She had no idea what or who they were, nor what they were doing here. But there was two of them, and they seemed large enough to easily win Sylkra in a fight. But that wasn't stopping her from trying. As soon as the one was low enough, she leaped with all her might off the ground, and she flew into the air, and her claws extended and hooked onto the one thing's wing. She craned her neck forward to bite down on it, and the thing flew back in a shriek of terror. The other one was flying in at full speed at Sylkra form her back, and as soon as Sylkra's head turned around, she knew she would have to make a move, and fast.
But then it was done for her, the bat she hung onto like an earring flung her off finally, and she dropped about 5 feet onto her back. She wiggled back onto her paws, and growled, ready for more. But it seemed as though the bats were in their own fight. The one had smacked into the other, and the other one thought it was on purpose. So they clashed in a battle, clawing and hissing at each other, whole in the meantime, Sylkra sat back and enjoyed the show, whimpering with laughter. It wasn't until they realized they were attacking each other, did they stop and dive down at the same time at Sylkra.
She tried jumping out of the way, but the one with darker, black fur caught her and pinned her to the ground. The other, which had brown fur, stood up on two legs and watched her howl in fear and try to thrash around and escape. Sylkra decided to name the dark one Blacky, while the other one would be Browny. She had really no other way of telling which was which. They had the same body shape, the same wings, the same claws, same teeth.
She whimpered, and Blacky leaned down on her, so that his nose was touching Sylkra's snout. He inhaled her scent, and then turned to Browny, although still pinning Sylkra. He was able to speak common, apparently. "Ah, this one smells of the city. It's a Kelvic, alright." A sly grin was on his face. She wanted to spit on it, but of course, they would surely kill her.
