[Lynes' Scrapbook] Release your Soul unto Me!

Postby Lynes on August 8th, 2012, 4:38 am

So, I thought I would do a scrapbook now that I have finally gotten into the role playing community with two people. After going through Naama's scrapbook, http://www.mizahar.com/forums/topic15042.html, I was motivated to test my drawing skills due to the fact that the one thing that I actually want to be able to draw is people, not as in portraits. Nooo, but as in characters in games, movies, Mizahar, as well as my insanity. *turns head slowly* That's what Naama seems to have in her scrapbook. So I did. I drew Tally from Mass Effect 3, because she made the game come to mind from one of the "doodles."

Tinypic tore apart the quality, and the fact that I took the picture from my Ipod doesn't help. Either way there is that one. Just curious what you guys think.

Oh! I also found this picture while find the next empty page in my scrapbook.

It 's really old, I don't even remember when I drew it, but I like it. I like wolves and I love tribal designs.

[Lynes' Scrapbook] Release your Soul on Me!

Postby Naama on August 8th, 2012, 5:02 am

Hi Lynes! I'm going to break your scrapbook cherry, I hope you enjoy it.

Now to your drawings, woohoo, it looks like you drew Kasumi, not Tali! Haha. But either way it actually looks pretty damn good. I would suggest using more organic contours because from what I can tell, you're using sharp edges for your linework and it turned out a bit blocky.

Nice attention to detail, I really dig. What I usually do when I draw is set down the basic shapes of the figure very lightly. (I use the computer to draw, so I don't really use pencil work but the same method applies.) I use lots of ovals and circles and all that jizz, then I go in and apply a block contour, after that's done, that's when I start making the figure look more organic by adding softer edges. If you're having trouble with drawing the figure, I would suggest looking up reference photos of nudes and copy them over and over. (That's basically what I do for 6 hours of my time in class.)

The only glaring issue I see with your piece here is that the arms are too thin for how natural her torso looks, and her forearms are too long in proportion to the upper arm.

Anyhow, I hope you find this useful. I would be totally willing to critique and help you with your drawing further!

You broke it's cherry with my consent atleast. :)

I took it as Tali without her mask on, while still shading over her eyes as no one really knows what she looks like. She is always wearing the hood after all. I'm glad you think it looks good. Yeah, I see what you mean with the blocky body, but you also have to know that this is only like the second person that I have ever actually drawn.

Thanks for the tips, I'll probably do the nudes thing as well, that will also help me draw breasts which are the bomb.

On the arms comment I completely agree, I did notice the problem with her arms, but honestly just couldn't get them to look right so I ended up leaving it alone. Looking at it now I think I should've broadened her shoulders a tad and allowed her arms some more space, although I still can't see how to fix the forearms.

I did in fact find it very useful and if your willing I would really enjoy it if you critiqued my drawings, I could use the guidance.

Anyway, thanks for taking my scrapbook's virginity, it is forever yours lol.

This is my first attempt, in my entire life yes, to try to draw a female face. I know that it isn't impressive, but I'm not posting it so you can tell me that part. :P. I'm looking for tips on how to improve it.

Also I changed the first picture in my scrapbook, bugged me that it wasn't straight on.

Anyway let me know what you guys think I could fix.

(By the way, drawing this picture I found out that I hate drawing eyes and female chins/jaws. They never end up how I want them to be.)

:Edit: Okay, so I left and drew a new female, but this one is better. I actually drew this using the hairstyle of an avatar on here matched with her personality. So yes, this one actually has some emotion. As well as looks kinda good. Which is a plus *thumbs up.* Also, if you can tell me who it is supposed to be depicting, then I'll give you a cookie. A hint? "It would help if the picture was in color."

I'm actually going to leave the old one there. Just for comparison's sake. Sorry that they are so large. :(

:Edit: I despise when I double post, so I refuse triple post. :P Anyway, I was browsing the character sheets and someone had said that their character had made a puzzle box, which made me wonder if I could draw a puzzle box. I gave it a shot and this is what came out. So, let me know whatcha thinkin.

Anyway I shot out and tried to draw a female body as I am trying to get better at it. Figured I post it on here as well.
