Quill's Rest
Midday

Walking down the street with his sketchbook in hand, the artist had started on his way down to The Quill's Rest. On his journey back to the city, Gale noticed the gray clouds that had rolled in above the city, threatening to cry sorrowfully above them. Today was one of those days where he needed to restock on pictures, which he would have gladly done by his tree, but due to the rain that seemed likely, he decided he would stay indoors. He was heading to the Quill's Rest because he heard it was quiet and had a nice view of the bay. Unlike his window back at the World's End Grotto the only view he saw was the wall of the building next door, and the street outside if he was looking out it at the right angle. Besides, he hadn't draw the ocean from a viewpoint like the Quill had before so it would be something new.

Moving around through the crowd, Gale's face held his hint of a smirk that had grew slightly on his face from his thought of something new. His cotton shirt and brown pants waved in the breeze as it grew. He pushed the door open as he arrived at his destination, stepping in and the closing it behind him. It looked nice with light colored wood, serving drinks, and the window opening the wall up for a view of the bay he had been wanting to draw. He looked around briefly to look for a spot to sit and draw in peace before sitting down in a chair by the fireplace. He wanted to warm up by drawing someone he drew plenty of times before moving on to something new. Once he finished his warm up drawing, he would move to a seat by the window and get started on the bay picture.

He flipped the sketchbook open to an empty page and held his charcoal in his fingers of his left hand. He crossed his legs, leaning to one side of the chair, his elbows propped on the arms of his seat. He twirled the charcoal in his fingers in thought, wondering what he should draw to warm him up. He could draw another flower. But he drew a lot of flowers...But he was good at it and it would make a good start. Flower it was then...

Now he had to decide what type of flower to draw. How about a Rose? Nah, he drew a Rose last time. What about something similar? Like a Carnation. They were very elegant flowers, would definitely get him going. So it was decided.

Gale moved the charcoal back in the rightful position on his fingers and started at the bottom of the page. He drew up to start with the stem. Making a slightly wavy line for the slight curves in the stem. His hand glided up and down the paper to get the two lines how he liked it. His blues eyes followed the end of the charcoal like a cat would with a fish, his gaze never straying from his page. Finishing the basics of the stem, he then drew the receptacle of the flower, adding four tiny hints of sepals. They had slight curves to it, like they started growing out, away from the flower, before deciding to go back again. After finishing their shape, he drew as carefully he could the scrunched up and curvy pedals. This obviously took the most time since each pedal had extreme detail. He wasn't able to add all the details like the intricate fringe at the end of the pedals or the the vain like lines on the pedals but he thought he did a fairly good job. After completing the hardest part of the drawing, he added some leaves, bunching them into pairs and spaced out down the stem till he made it to the edge of his picture. He added some darker spots for shadowing within the flower, not adding the flowers shadow itself since he didn't have an exact setting for the flower. He did add a pedal falling off and away from the flower though.

When the flower was complete, Gale set his charcoal down and looked at his piece. Not bad. Not bad at all actually. Maybe he could try and sell this one too. It did take him two bells to make it after all. It's a long time but you can't rush art if you wanted it to be decent. Now that he had warmed up, he could get started on that bay.

Gale looked over towards the window and saw no one was currently sitting by it. Gale flipped his book shut, grabbed his charcoal and went over to claim a spot. He set them down and decided that he would have a drink. Spending the two silver mizas for a cup of the Kelp Tea, Gale sat down and sipped it while he looked out the window, thinking of where to start.

Gale sipped his drink calmly as he decided he would start with the shore. It was a good place to start after all. He set his cup down next to him and grabbed his book and pencil again. The young man flipped to the page after his flower and tilted the book to the side. Placing his hand at the top of the page, which was originally the side, and looked up once more to observe the coast line specifically. He watched the waves roll onto the shore and attempted to picture it in one place. He looked down again and drew his line. It curved to make it look like the waves on the shore.

Drawing the basics of the docks, the buildings behind the shore, and the clouds, Gale paused for a second and looked up to see if he was doing it right. In his eyes, he was doing it accurately, but to someone else it most likely would look like he was trying disheartened the scene, which wasn't the case. He wasn't trying to make it sad or depressing looking,it just happens.

Gale nodded in satisfaction and continued with his work. The artist drew the ship that was in the bay at the time, knowing that it might not be there later. He drew most of those things first, but besides the ship and a few people sitting in the sand, everything would probably be there later. After making the small, even blob like figures, and adding some important details to the ship like the shrouds and flags, he filled in visible windows on the buildings, the cobble stones, which looked like dots, and darkened the clouds. He finished off the sand and the shore and was about to move on to making the waves when he looked up to watch them for a few seconds. He watched the water bob up and down in small triangle looking peeks, crashing up on rocks and the ship's wood. He forgot about that. He looked down and attempted to add the splashing at the ship's side without ruining what he had already. After completing what he almost missed, he looked up again to continue his observing.

He only had a few corners and spaces that needed shadows or other details before he looked up once more and saw rain drops on the window. He should probably head home before it gets worse. The rain would ruin his, and more importantly, Hana's pictures. Besides, he was hungry and it was around dinner time by now. Gale sighed. He would have to finish this some other time. At least he had the ship and people done. He could finish the waves, shadows, and other details later. There was no doubt he would come back since it was so quite.

Gale gathered his stuff up and drank the last of his tea. He headed out, keeping his book close to him to keep it as dry as possible. He headed back to the grotto, wondering why he never got around to buying a jacket that didn't make him look like an assassin. His cloak would have done just as good of a job as a jacket now but he didn't think about it when he left this morning. Then it had very little clouds in the sky. When it started to rain harder, Gale tucked his notebook inside his shirt and sped up. It wasn't long though before he made it back home, his and his wife's drawings safe and sound.

I wish I could draw like Gale! ... I make stickmen look bad hahaha.

I assume that whenever Gale finishes a drawing he would tear the page out so as to be a separate piece from his sketchbook. Let me know if that is not the case. If that is the case, he is free to name and market his Flower Drawing (and the Ocean Drawing, in the future when it is completed), and can attempt to sell it in another thread if he wishes.
