43th summer 512 AV

Coren let out a sigh as he walked through the ruined main streets of avanthal, a small bag filled with various foodstuffs he had bought at the frozen market. Though it filled him with sadness that the majestic city of avanthal had been nearly destroyed completely. The fact that nearly the entire city was banding together to repair their home with nary a complaint did push that away and brought a smile on his masked face. Even though he was just inches away from being a social paria among them. He still felt connected to the rest of the vantha even though he lost his hold and his family through the work he put in towards the community.

“hey look, its the madman!” Coren let out a sigh as a trio of vantha stepped in front of his path. It seemed as if a pair a brainless biggots had found nothing more usefull or suicidal to do then to provoke the mage. “And look, he has some food with him. What can't magic food out of nowhere freaky man!” Coren gave a deadpan look at the main instigator of the conflict, not in the least bit insulted.. well if one didn't count the fact the teen thought him so childish to be insulted by him being called freaky. A young man in his late teens. His two female admirers trailing behind him like a puppy on a leash. Great a young man thinking with his balls instead of his brain and trying to show of for two brainless women.

“No I can't. Now why don't you go to your mother, little boy.” Coren said with contempt. “She shouldn't be letting her toddler run free when there are still criminals on the loose.” A small smile came on coren's masked face as the young man reddened and spluttered in indignation at his remark. “Why you!” the man balled his fist and took a step forward. Coren in response just straightened his back and looked down on the shorter teen. “Think boy, you really want to this?” he said in a deadpan voice. The boy hessitated for a moment. But it seemed bravado and the will to show of in front of his girls won over his common sense.
“You don't scare me! Everybody knows mages can't fight worth a damn without their magic!”

Knight of the north

Vance heard the comments made by the boy, his hand tightening on the leather sheathe of his sword. His right hand came up, slowly wrapping around the hilt of the blade, drawing it slowly as he walked towards the sound. He heard the other mage, even as he began to expel his res, sliding it around the head of the man who insulted the mage. He transformed it in a quick instant, turning the liquid like res into water, surrounding the boy's head with it. "Didn't anyone ever teach you, boy. Mages run in packs." His voice was rough, like hewn stone, and his words were spoken low. He stepped out of the shadows of a nearby building, the Mark of Morwen evident on his wrist, even as he caused the water to drop suddenly. With a splash it landed on the boy's feet, Vance's chin jerked towards the street. "Get lost thug, and I won't be forced to use my sword on you. Or is it you still think a Mage can't fight without their magic?" The Longsword came up, weaving a small S-pattern in the air, gripped tight in the male's leather clad right hand. The black leather armor of Vance was revealed as the boy turned towards him, blanching, "I said get." The Warrior-Mage snapped, sending the three scrambling, even as he aligned his sword with its sheathe. "Ignorant bunch of children." Vance spat on the ground before turning to Coren, "Now. Do you be that mage that was kicked out of his hold for magic? Coren, I believe..I'm Vance Iceglaze. A Novice in the arts of magic. Did you not realize that idiots like that would taunt you?"

Coren didn't interfere when the other mage stepped in on the scene. Literally silencing the impudent brat by smothering the moron's face with water. It only took a few harsh words and a threat with his sword to scare the idiotic children off. When they where running away with their tails between their legs he let out a hearty laugh at what just happened.

“Thanks for helping me out with those morons. I could have taken them myself. But I appreciate the gesture all the same.” He said with a smile on his face and even though his mask hid that smile from view, it was pretty audible in his words. “They probably did deserve a bit more then a fright though,“ coren mused. When vance introduced himself and asked if he was the mage that had been kicked out of his hold a while ago he gave a nod. “That is me, Seems like everybody has heard that rumor nowadays.” He was less than pleased about that, he had enjoyed his secrecy up until now, but nothing he could do about that now.
