He witnessed the arrival of his new teacher and assessed her quickly before introducing himself, which deserved an observation point. When he read properties of plants from the book he was given, he practiced herbalism, and his attempt at making the lip balm was enough to earn him two philtering points. I wish I could have seen more, like how John reacted to the critique, him cleaning his tools, and his second attempt. All those things are a huge part of the process of learning philtering, and I would have been able to award many more points. I liked how it was a good introduction to the skill, though, and how it gave him a way to start practicing more on his own.
