23 of the Fall 512 AV

Whistling and with a small bounce in her steps Nekana followed the strong smell of horses, hay and leather to a stable. The sun was shining, as much as it does in the fall anyway, and she had gotten a job perfect for her skills. With a clear goal in her mind she felt a lot safer. All was good at the moment. Now if only she would know anybody in this city it would be even better, but you can’t get everything you want.
After a few minutes of walking she arrived at a place that definitely was a stable. One clue to that was horses being worked with and some happily munching on grass. The second was a huge sign on which was written ‘’Windmount Stables’’.
As she did not know who exactly talk to right now, Nekana simply decided to ask one of the stable workers. There was a boy, not older than 15 or 16 drawing up water from a well into big buckets. /Right, this seems like a safe person to assume who works here./
‘’Hello, I’m looking for someone here who could give me a job? I was sent from the Employment Office.’’ She expectantly looked at him, as he was closer to her own age she felt safer with him.
‘’Well, I would love to say that this here is the person you’ve been lookin for, but actually Serena, the owner, is in the first stable, that one there’’ and with that the boy pointed at a clean and quite professional looking stable. At last that’s what it looked like for Nekana, who admittedly wasn’t the best person to decide that.
After excitedly grinning at the worker in thanks, she quickly walked to the stable door. It smelled quite a bit in there, but that’s something you can’t escape in a stable, so she tried to ignore it. The few horses that were inside the stable at daytime were quite obviously well-bred and good riding horses. As she saw another two stables outside Nekana guessed that the horses were divided into good or bad horses, or something like that. A calm looking Frostmarches box was open so she went to it and looked inside. A woman with curly brown hair was cleaning the horses hooves. /Guess this is Serena. Doesn’t look too stern, that’s good I’m nervous already as it is./
‘’H-hello. I was sent from the Employment Office.’’ The woman flinched and startled dropped the horses hoof almost hitting her own foot. She hurriedly got up and straightened her back, looking at Nekana with a small frown on her face.
‘’Oh didn’t see you there, you gave me quite a scare. I guess Trega has gotten me another recruit? So you know anything at all about horses?’’ The frown disappeared after the first sentence causing Nekana to relax a little bit.
‘’Yeah, for a bit. I was once in a caravan and that was my job there. Caring for horses.’’ /Yeah. If I would be any more vague I would be fog./
‘’I’ll trust you without any unnecessary tests then. I always take all help that I can get, but sometimes I have to assign someone to help the newbies so that they don’t screw up too bad.’’ Serena explained, leaning against the white horse and petting it with one hand.
‘’So. You come whenever you can, help however you can and if the regular stable workers will confirm to me that you worked well and enough, I’ll pay you. How does that sound for you?’’
/A bit suspicious. What if I get in a row with them and they lie to you? Can’t complain too much I guess./ ‘’Sounds perfect to me.’’ And with that the job interview ended.
‘’Hopefully see you often around.’’
With those words the conversation was quite obviously closed. After walking out of the stable Nekana got until the paved road when she hesitated. Where to now? /Let’s just wander around for a bit, why not../
