Crystal Spiders The crystal spider is one of the many unusual oddities of Taldera. Standing at three feet tall and three feet long, this spider can normally be seen traveling in groups, seeing as they are a close knit race. Pure white in color, these spiders are covered in fur that shimmer in the light, much like that of a crystal. The citizens of Taldera found these creatures so beautiful that they named them the Crystal Spider, and and treated the animals with respect as they made their journeys around the region on their migratory tract. These spiders visit the Spires in the fall, making their way further south to Karjin in the winter, Novallas in the spring, and Avanthal in the summer. These spiders are harmless, preferring the company of a group or a specific individual....which is why some people choose to keep them as pets. Crystal spiders will "bond" with someone that they feel they are the most compatible with, often reflecting the personality of their "owner". The saying is "You don't choose the spider, the spider chooses you.", and it has been proven time and again with those that gain a one of these furry companions. They communicate through soft squeaks and chitterings, and have proven to be highly intelligent creatures. Most residents of Taldera will see these creatures in their lifetime, and some will even have one stay with them if the spider feels that the individual is worthy of its companionship. Important Information and General Care Guide : General Info: -Crystal spiders have an incredibly long lifespan, most living up to 50 years or even longer if given proper care, making them a perfect companion for the Jamoura. -Even though the spiders' bodies are covered in fur, underneath lies a hard exoskeleton, making them hardy creatures to with stand injury and even the cold. -While these spiders are harmless, they are very protective of their "owners", and can deliver a vicious bite to those that may seek to do it or its "owner" harm. They are nonpoisonous creatures, but the venom that they do secrete can cause slight irritation of the skin. General Care: -Most Crystal spiders survive off of fruits and vegetables as part of there every day diet, however they are known to eat fish when the climate starts to get cooler, and most believe it is to store up body fat. -These spiders can't survive in hot climates, as their fur is too think for the harsh sun. "Owners" that wish to travel to warmer climates must always be aware of this, and perhaps should think about leaving their spider behind if needed. -Crystal spiders are very social insects, and often find enjoyment by cuddling into the lap of anyone who wishes to cuddle. -Most say that the spiders have a mind of their own, and can certainly take care of themselves, but they are incredibly loyal to the one that they bond with. They will stay with that person for the duration of their life, only leaving to mate before returning. Interesting Facts: -The silk from a Crystal spider is highly valuable, and many musicians crave it. For those that play the harp say that if the strings are made from the silk, the harp music that is played sounds like the tinkling of crystal or glass, another reason for their name. -The silk can also be woven into shimmering garments, something else that is also highly prized.
