Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

A Walk Through the City (Gideon)

40th of Spring, 510 AV

It was an eerie day. Never to mind those who think of weather, it was those who would have seen Saion before he had come to Riverfall. He was on foot today, with his horse following close behind. The city streets were wide enough to allow a horse, but to ride one would bring all eyes to your focus. And for this reason, Saion walked with Vel instead.

He had no destination in mind, just a desire to explore the city and its wonders. He was a man of the grasslands, of the Diamond clan brothers and sisters. However, he had relinquished the majority of the title months ago when the life became stagnant for him. The living in tents with his brothers and friends left no room to truly explore, as their own desires weren't anywhere close to his own. He wished to find new lands instead of the Endrykas tents.

And so he left, opting to take Riverfall due to how close it was. And there, today, he walked, familiarizing himself with the city. There were strangers everywhere, but he paid them no mind. Vel tried to ignore them as well, but the lack of other horses and soft ground made him anxious and uneasy. "Easy now," Saion whispered in Pavi, lightly petting the beast's nose while they walked. "No one here will hurt you. And if they do, I will make them pay twice what they do."
And as we traveled, we saw ahead of us the adventure laid upon the land. "This is a great and prosperous place. The time ahead can only bring great wonder for us, and all we shall meet."

A Walk Through the City (Gideon)

Postby Gideon Linvaille on May 19th, 2010, 11:19 pm

It was an odd day indeed, Gideon Linvaille observed as he mulled through the crowds like a sea of bodies. He absently held his abdomen where he had been stabbed days before, the pain still lingering at the softest of touches. It had been a few days now since he had seen Panex, and he had parted ways with Shiva as quickly as he could. Her words still lingered in his mind, that they would see each other again. Frankly, Gideon hoped that she would stop being a nuisance to him.

Pardon, Gideon blurted apologetically as he bumped into a man thoughtlessly, bowing his head slightly in formality. He shifted his glance from side to side, wondering where the next clue was. He stared up at the sign outside a bar, wondering to himself whether one of the patrons had seen his targets.

Gideon pushed his way toward the door, knocking into a horse that had come up on him in his blind spot with a loud 'ack!'

Vel whinnied abruptly but didn't fuss as the man made solid contact. Saion brought himself around to see what happened to find Gideon.

"It takes a man of a thick head to knock into a horse, eh? Sorry about it either way, he's got a way of pushing everyone around and getting into trouble." He held his hand out as if to shake the stranger's not really caring whether he was in a hurry to escape or not. "I'm Saion. You?"

Gideon, he said as he shook the man's hand firmly. and your horse makes a fine obstacle in his own right. With a quiet glance over the creature, Gideon let go of Saion's hand and firmly adjusted his gauntlet before stroking the horse's mane.

He is a fine specimen, if I may say so.

Gideon stepped backward and looked to Saion with some amount of consideration before speaking again.

You look as out of place here as I do, the armored adolescent added thoughtfully, What is it that brings a horseman into a city of warriors?

Saion looked to Vel and spoke again in his native tongue. ~"See, the people here nice too. It takes getting used to."~

He looked at himself and then back to Gideon. He didn't feel very out of place here. Different, maybe, but there were plenty of other humans around.

"I came for a change. Too much of the same bores me, and the city is.. amazing." He seemed to struggle in finding the word, and it showed that he was still only an amateur in Common's tongue. "The chaos of it all excites me, I guess. What of you then, if you're out of place too?"
And as we traveled, we saw ahead of us the adventure laid upon the land. "This is a great and prosperous place. The time ahead can only bring great wonder for us, and all we shall meet."

Chaos, hmm? I suppose that is an avid reply, though admittedly I have a differing opinion of abrupt change, especially the violent sort.

Gideon's voice was flat at the moment, his mind still brooding over pain and holding in check a great deal of fury. The knightly youth hated that he was conflicted on the inside, but he kept it hidden surprisingly well.

I have come here in search of facts. Have you happened to have seen two bandits passing through within the last twenty days? If not, I can understand, his tone changed, slightly less cold and more approachable, for I already believe they have left, and just a direction would be more than enough to slake my thirst.

Gideon watched the other man, wondering what a man like this truly hoped to find in a large city. He seemed, at truth, more at home with the wild.

"I don't think I saw them, no. If I did, I would have forgotten by now," Saion said, looking up in thought. Vel snorted in agreement, and the white clad horseman rubbed his mane from instinct.

"They didn't take to the Grasslands. Not if they want to live anyway. I hear the port is busier anyway." Saion looked Gideon over once more. "Do you want help in finding them? I've nothing to do, and all I own is on my horse."
And as we traveled, we saw ahead of us the adventure laid upon the land. "This is a great and prosperous place. The time ahead can only bring great wonder for us, and all we shall meet."

A Walk Through the City (Gideon)

Gideon blinked at the proposal, so blunt and open. It was refreshing to have someone offer help so quickly, but oft times, Gideon found they wanted something in return. Not that he minded that, of course, but this could be quite roundabout if he weren't careful.

If you want to travel with me, Gideon responded thoughtfully, I have no qualms. I could use the extra hand. As you can see, I'm still freshly recovering from a serious injury, and it would be quite prudent to have someone skilled in finding others on the fly.

He knew the look of a Drykas even if he had never met one. The tattoos gave Saion away as much as his demeanor and accent. Gideon smiled warmly, nodding his head in approval.

What I mean to say, quite simply, is yes. I could use the help, Saion.

Saion watched him eye the tattoos that ran down his arm. "Windmarks. I got them just before I left. Anyway, we should get going if we're after bandits. Do you need to pick anything up?"

He was excited with the prospect of moving, especially if it meant away from monotony, even if the monotony was beautiful.
And as we traveled, we saw ahead of us the adventure laid upon the land. "This is a great and prosperous place. The time ahead can only bring great wonder for us, and all we shall meet."

A Walk Through the City (Gideon)

Gideon nodded solemnly, wondering why in blazes that this youth was so hellbent on getting to moving. There was so much to do before they were ready to go it was not amusing, and Gideon was slowly feeling the pangs of unrest himself.

There is much to do yet, Gideon replied softly, and I cannot say that it will be an immediate departure. I'm afraid I have a bit of business to attend to before I can readily give chase. Though it may be interesting for you to move about the city with me, yes?

There was a chill wind over the city, and he drew his cloak over his armor for warmth. He felt as if it were foreboding, as though the world sought to get beneath his skin before the chase resumed. That was what he got for getting involved with a fate-cheater... Lhex was undoubtedly cursing him, or so he liked to think.

We should get some rest before anything else, yes?
