Basic Information

Race: Human
Birthday & Age : Winter 10th, 494 AV (18 years old)
Gender: Male

Physical Description

Nander is an average looking boy in terms of physique. He isn't the tallest or the most muscular guy around. Nander has a quite average built, which means he does have some muscle. However, it's not so much that he could be called a ripped body builder. It's just enough that he can be called muscular.

If you were to measure his height, you'd say it is average as well. Specifically, he's approximately 5'8, though his boots might add an inch or two. This means he wouldn't really stand out from the crowd. You'd have to recognize his actual features. However, this would be difficult considering Nander doesn't really have a trademark.

Despite the fact that he's almost an adult, Nander has a rather youthful look, sometimes being mistaken for 16 or younger in rare occasions. His eyes are a brown color which switch between light and dark depending on his surroundings. Nander's hair is dark brown and short, never combed. He also has a light skin tone and a freckled face, though one can only see the freckles when close up. He doesn't actually have any notable or distinguishing features.

Nander's clothing usually consists of a pair of blue pants and a brown leather breastplate, which holds Nander's sword holster in the back. Under this, he wears three layers of clothing: a blue leather jacket, a blue button-down long=sleeved shirt, and another white shirt. Nander also wears a pair of leather brown bracers, which complete the look of Nander's outfit.

Character Concept

Image

Ill-tempered, aggressive, and competitive are three words that could be used to describe Nader. Nander has a very small tolerance level, getting him into trouble on a regular basis. It doesn't help that Nander drinks either. The alcohol only helps to anger Nander.

Being one who is easily angered, it's only natural that Nander is quite aggressive. This part of him usually comes out in battle, though. He can't help it. With every hit his opponent gets on him, Nander gets weaker & subsequently angrier. Even if he's simply sparring, he'll be quite ferocious. It comes with being self-taught.

Nander's competitive side comes out whenever he's around others. Whether it's drinking, fighting, or even simply waking up, everything's a competition to Nander. He can't help it. It's just how he was raised. So if someone were to start a race in the middle of town, Nander would join in without even asking. It's for this reason that Nander can also be seen as a bit of a show-off.

Attentive, Intelligent, and Cunning are some of Nander's better qualities. Being someone who gets competitive at everything, it's only natural for Nander to also be quite attentive. He can't compete if he doesn't follow the actual rules of the competition. Not only that, but in Nander's eyes, attentiveness is just another competition. Who can learn the most, who can pay attention the best, who can remember what they learned, etc. are all different criteria of the attentiveness competition.

Attentiveness can of course lead to intelligence. With all he's learned, Nander of course is quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately, it's this intelligence coupled with his show-offy attitude that sometimes leads Nander to play the "know-it-all." He may not be the smartest guy around, but he is above average for his age. It's thanks to this intelligence that Nander is also quite cunning & calculating in battle.

It should be noted that Nander has a strange fascination for the abnormal. This includes magic, the different races, gnosis, ect. Despite coming off as an angry know-it-all, Nander's personality seems to change when he's investigating the abnormal. He becomes quite and extremely tolerant, though in truth he really just blocks out the rest of the world. When he's done, it's back to drinking and beating up strangers.

In terms of morality, Nander thinks of himself as a neutral party. He doesn't like to "play the hero", but he does know how and will if he feels like it. More times than not he has to be bribed, especially when hostages are involved. If they're anything Nander hates in the world it's hostages. In his opinion, damsels in distress are weak. If they're weak they'll just get kidnapped again even after he saved them.

Nander can also "play the villain" if he wants to, or is paid to do so. However, this usually means theft, since even Nander has standards. He isn't some crazy assassin who'd kill for cash. In this way, Nander can be seen as lawful neutral. He prefers to play the hero, but he still doesn't like to do so. Moving on, while Nander does have a few fears and weaknesses, including motion sickness, acrophobia, and certain women.

It's strange, but Nander can't seem to ride any vehicle or animal without getting sick. Depending on the ride, the motion sickness can get so bad that Nander may vomit multiple times. This is usually while Nander's traveling over rocky terrain. Otherwise he simply becomes completely still as he holds on for dear life. Though he's tried many times, he can't get over his motion sickness.

For some reason, Nander always freezes up when he's high up. He could be looking over a balcony or simply looking down from a tree. Either way, he simply freezes up. Nander's acrophobia is almost as bad as his motion sickness, except when he's frozen he immediately forgets about every nearby. It's as if he's lost in a trance.

Another strange fear, and perhaps the strangest of all, is Nander's fear of the female body. Not to say that Nander is actually afraid of women, since he'd fight one without hesitation. However, it seems that Nander becomes embarrassed whenever he sees women in revealing clothing. This of course makes him look quite childish, since he freaks out over only a little skin. However, like motion sickness, Nander can't seem to get over this fear. Maybe it's because Nander has a more uptight personality deep inside him or perhaps he's just weird. Not even Nander knows the truth.

Nander's view of religion is neutral like himself. Sure he believes the gods exist and protect, but that doesn't mean he openly worships them. Since he's always on the move and learns about so many different gods, how could he possibly choose one out of them all. Likewise, he simply acknowledges them as residents of Mizahar...no more.

History

Image

Nander was born in the Sylira region in the city of Syliras. It was winter at the time and the birth was unexpected, premature in fact. There was of course a big commotion, but Nander thankfully managed to survive the experience with no complications. Still, the whole experience shocked the whole family. They gave him the name Nander in memory of his dead great grandfather, who also was born prematurely.

After the experience, the Greenfields decided to stay in Syliras to raise Nander, despite the fact that they traveled from place to place. It was there that Nander learned about the Syliran Knights. His first sign of interest was when his uncle, Cindar, came to see him as a baby. Even at that age, he was quite interested in the knight and even more so in his sword. After that, his interest continued to grow as Cindar kept visiting. Soon it got to the point that Nander liked him more than his own parents. By the time he was five he was even talking about becoming a knight one day.

Unfortunately, it was a dream that inevitably wouldn't come true. Cindar did agree to train Nander in the art one day, but he would never get the chance. His death came as a great shock to everyone, especially Nander. It all happened when Cindar was on a trip to the Windoak. The killer had nothing against Cindar personally, but he did seem to have a hatred of the Syliran Knights.

Cindar wouldn't have fell for the trap if the killer hadn't looked so innocent. Who would have thought a kid no older than 7 could be so smart and so bloodthirsty? He tricked Cindar into his home and quickly dispensed of him with a small dagger. It was quite a sneak attack. Cindar was dead before he realized what had happened. The murderer was later caught and killed by the knights.

Still, even with the knowledge of justice served, Nander still didn't recover from his uncle's death for a while. However, it did help that Cindar's sword was later passed down to Nander. As he held it and looked over it, Nander remembered his dead uncle & how he died trying to help someone. With that thought in mind, Nander decided it would be better if he didn't become a Knight. If he did he'd just end up saving someone and dying like his uncle.

With that knew knowledge, Nander felt hollow inside. If he wasn't going to be a knight, what was he going to devote his life too. He felt hollow inside and longed for answers. That's how the idea came to him: his purpose was actually to find a purpose. To do this, he had to search and he had to learn. It was this thought that lead Nander to leave his family at 14. He would have left early, but he needed time to prepare for the journey.

Deciding to travel the world to find his purpose, Nander left Sylira all together and made his way over to Taldera, where he collapsed in Avanthal from exhaustion. After being rescued by the Vantha, Nander stayed in Avanthal for a while. He had become fascinated in the Vanthas the moment he awoke in the city. In the year that he stayed, Nander learned much about the Vantha's way of life, including how to speak Vani. However, he didn't find his purpose their so he inevitably left. After that he traveled to Kalea and stayed for two years, learning about both the Isur and Inarta.

Unfortunately, after his time with the people, Nander finally made a discovery...humans were boring. What he found especially interesting were the stories of people like the Konti or Dhani. This interest even led him to travel to Kalinor, which he eventually convinced a Symenestra to take him into. Though they were dangerous, Nander did manage to learn much about the poisonous creatures. However, he inevitably left as he kept on his travels.

As Nander continued to search for his purpose in life, traveling from place to place, he began to grow as a person and a warrior. Traveling on his own forced Nander to use his sword, learning alone how to defend himself. In fact, as he went around, interacting with people and fighting off enemies, he began to make a name for himself. This was so much so that people even started making requests to Nander, mistaking him for a knight because of his sword & leather.

Even though he told them he wasn't a knight, the mistakes continued simply because Nander took the requests. It wasn't long before Nander stopped caring and simply took the requests because they paid well. Eventually, as the requests piled in, Nander began to realize something. Perhaps his purpose was to be a freelance traveler. It was a good explanation, considering all Nander had been doing was traveling & taking missions. Though it didn't seem nearly as important as being a knight, most people's jobs weren't that much important either. He took the knowledge without question and hasn't looked back since.

It's been only two months since Nander discovered his purpose and a whole 4 years since he began his journey. In that time he's traveled throughout Taldera and Kalea. Now he's made his way to Cyphrus to learn of the blue Akalak.
