Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The rain was steady, no longer the kind that cooled oneself in the heat of summer. The air had lost the heat of that season, if not yet replaced by the chill of winter on the Suvan shore. Vanator adjusted the hood of his cloak as he meandered through Riverfall's market ducking from one stall to the next. He sought the merchant he had met earlier in the season, the one from whom he bought the short bows for the armory, then returned a few days later to replace the bow he had broken over the head of a Zith.

Seeking refuge from a momentary burst of downpour, Vanator began to peruse the stall he that served as his temporary shelter. The few small tables were piled with a sundry array of items, presumably collected from the variety of trading ships that docked at the city. Sifting through a pile of old hand tools, Vanator pulled out a set of iron manacles, the key dangling from them by a leather thong. With a nod to himself, he kept hold of them. He was the closest thing to law enforcement at Sanctuary, perhaps the cuffs would come in handy someday.

Further digging produced a sharpening stone of good quality, which he also retained as he picked through the junk. Nothing else caught the Drykas attention, so he took his treasures to the girl keeping the counter, and paid up before ducking out to the next stall.

At the edge of the canvas canopy of the junk dealers stall, Vanator spotted a vendor across the way that sold leather goods. He preferred the town's leather shop, finding the quality of their goods decent for the price, but the leather stall was a just close jog across the way. Ducking out again into the downpour, the Drykas ran to the leather workers tent.

Peeling back his soaked hood, Vanator perused the articles for sale. He found a pair of lined gloves, definitely something he would need for the coming Winter, and a waterskin. The horseman planned on making more forays into the grass, eventually taking Larik with him for some father and son time. A separate table of canvas goods produced a sturdy backpack and a small tent, both of which he tucked under his arm. Taking his items to the merchant's table, the aged trader behind the counter encouraged the Drykas to buy some traveler's soup stock displayed next to him. Soup being one of Van's favorite meals to make when traveling in the grasslands, he added some of the stock to his pile of purchases.

His bundle of goods growning, Vanator still had not come across the prize he sought. Pulling up his hood and trying to cover as much of his purchases as he could with his cloak, the Sanctuarian slipped out of the stall. A large, dark Akalak accidentally bumped into him, earning the Riverian a glare from the distainful Drykas before he disappeared into the rain.

Plodding along the rain-slick stone, Vanator peered through the pouring rain to see the merchant's booth where he had bought the armory bows. Jogging through the crowd, the Drykas stepped under the makeshift roof. Gold-flecked hazel eyes widened with excitement at the bowyer's selection. A quick survey of the small stall revealed several weapons of interest. Drawing near, Vanator carefully pulled a composite bow from off of a peg. Looking towards the grizzled craftsman, the bowmaker simply nodded, seeing the question in his eyes. "Supplewood and horn." He answered.

Vanator handled the weapon, crafted from layers of wood and horn laminated together. The short bow had a beautiful deep recurve, similar to Razkar's. It would deliver a penetrating shot much more powerful than the Sanctuary short bows. No further deliberation was required. Wet and laden already with purchases, the Drykas did not bother to dicker over the price of the bow, and he promptly paid. He stopped to gather his items, packing as much in the backpack as possible and slinging it over his shoulder. He kept the new bow securely protected beneath his cloak as he headed out again.

Hurraying towards the edge of the market, Vanator passed an outfitter, where he decided to stop and buy himself a quiver and a supply of arrows, so he did not depleted the armory. Rounding off the shopping spree with a collection of wooden practice weapons he found displayed in a barrel, the heavily laden Drykas staggered out of the marketplace.
