Completed [Winter: Day 24, 512- Shuuda Day 14] Sharing in Lessons.

(Sebastian)Singh and Esha have cut one of their presents and were on their way to travel...but it seems tales lead them astray.

A half-collapsed city of alabaster and gold fiercely governed by Eypharians. Even partially ruined, it is the crown of the desert and a worthy testament to old glories and rising powers.

Singh was, not so gently, jerked by her sister to a shadowed area covered in beautiful sheets. Esha was sitting across from Shim in a matter of seconds. Luckily Singh jerked her arm away before damage could be made. Esha noticed her antics and giggled, sheepishly looking at her glig.

Narrowing her eyes at her sister she slowly sat. She appeared to be sitting straight but she had allowed her muscles to loosen. Esha glanced over to Singh and sighed. Singh knew what Esha was referring to but she simply shrugged it off. Esha's attention was turned to Shim as he began to settle down and tell his tale.

Singh observed the Pycon during this time. He seemed to physically calm down and was deep in tune with his tale. One, that Singh recognized. Well the base of the story so far. A greedy boy took all he could and never gave in equal value. In turn those who loved him most were hurt. Singh had read and heard it many times from the elderly woman who had gone blind and began to loose their beauty but still retained knowledge beyond years.

Singh finally took notice to her surrounding's when Shim stopped. He glanced at his dog then looked expectantly at the gligs. What he would see, Sigh noted wearily herself, was Esha sprawled out on several cushions with her head lying in Singh crossed legs. Singh racking her hand though her sisters hair much like she had done as a child before bed. Looking down at her sister Singh watched as Esha stayed unmoving, even when Singh's hair fell to caress her face. Pushing her hair back Singh noted that Esha had fallen asleep.

Singh looked back to Shim and nodded for him to continue, "Sleep takes the flighters." Singh pointed a hand to Shim's dog and then to Esha. Both were the physical power out of both pairs.

[Winter: Shuuda: Day 14, 512] Sharing in Lessons.

Though the Pycon's first instinct was to be offended by Esha sleeping, he appreciated this shared moment with the aloof Singh. If the Pycon had had a lap big enough, surely Snowflake's head would also being lying comfortably in it, and it was clear the canine and the Eypharian's sister had shared spirits, which made him smile, perhaps he would take to calling Snow Esha from time to time now. Though 0ver 50% of his audience had fallen to sleep, Singh was truly the one he needed to impress, for it was she that had wanted to leave, gave the Pycon such stares as would make him turn to stone early...in the most polite way possible of course. Shim cleared his throat and continued.

"So Kar and his mother traveled, a grueling journey, escorted by a singular jackal to make sure they went through with their travel all the was to Hai. It was a road fraught with danger, but many tales could be told in this one, and Shim, nor Singh he thinks, has the time." The Pycon smiled and winked at her before continuing.

"The jackal saw them off at the gate to which few ever emerge from, and both Kar and his mother were lowered down through the ceiling into a new world. It was clear soon that nowhere was safe, this place held the run off of not only Ekytol, but the world. Kar left his mother with the lepers, where at the very least she would receive scant food and water, and refusing to become fodder for the other factions, became a rogue.

In truth, though Hai was a horrible place, Kar learned much. Those suffering from cursed Gnosis marks told him tales of what they had done to anger the gods, and many had been mutated from overgiving in Reimancy, with strange appendages or flaming hair. He learned bits of magic from anyone he could, and honed these traits alone. He struggled and fought, but he found it easier in Hai to gain a name for himself than it ever would have been for him in Ahnatep."
He let the gravity of that last sentence sink in for a moment before pressing on, checking to make Singh hadn't fallen asleep either, but saw her bright gaze still watching him.

"Being a loner in the depths of Hai is not the safest course of action, though non of the factions could be called kind, some would say the lesser evil would be to join them. Because Kar refused he had to find another way to stay alive, as well as protect his mother and the lepers, who he began to grow fond of, and the answer came when he found a blind old man fiddling with bits of metal one day. He said he had no name, so Kar took to calling him the Old Man.. He had made a living for himself down in the depths by making tools, weapons, and gadgets for the other groups. In return for his inventions, everyone left him alone. He made marvelous toys that hadn't much use, yet were greatly entertaining, strange automatons that could walk and sometimes even make noise, and strangely altered crossbows and swords that moved by themselves. In order to teach Kar, the blind man only required one thing from him, to tell him stories of Ahnatep and the world above to fill his head with where only darkness was, and so Kar began training beneath the Gadgeteer, visiting his mother in his spare time, and learning all the winding ways to avoid those that would do him harm in the underground streets of Hai."

Shim took a breath of a pause to check on Singh before continuing.

When the Pycon winked Singh was a little unsettled. She was uncomfortable with men's attention but her hands in Esha's hair helped settle her nerves. Shim continued on with his Tale and Singh found herself enjoying this version of the tale very much. A small smile played on her face as the enthusiastic Pycon made the tale very enjoyable. Singh now wished she had something to give the Pycon in return for his time, so she thought of all she had on her while she listened.

After coming to a particular part where the boy learned that while Ahnatep was a great place it was not for everyone Shim stopped and made eye contact, at least she thought, with Singh. Singh simply nodded for him to continue as she pondered. He didn't make any gesture's back but continued on his merry way.

Singh finally set her mind on what she was share with Shim. And then she noticed that Shim has stopped yet again. A small laugh let loose from her mouth as she took stock of the Pycon. He was leaned forward and his arms had stopped in a wild display of gesture's. The small laugh had brought Esha out of her small nap and she slid her eye's over Singh face. A big, but sleepy, smile broke out on her face and she rolled to face Shim, "I don't think I can give you anything in return for what you have brought us." Esha's voice was full of sleep but her eye's were full of energy.

Singh simply nodded for Shim to continue, "Ignore those in the mist."

oocSorry for the delay and I love the new box code, its delightful!

"He was inginuitive, inventive, and had an imagination that could stretch for miles, and for Kar, this form of creation was exactly what he required, so he excelled. The Old Man was startled by his pace of learning almost as much as Kar was, and sooner rather than later, the factions began to like Kar's work and ask for it instead of the Old Man's. His mentor seemed to old and tired to care, and Kar slowly began to replace the man from whom he had begun learning."

Shim stopped, thinking of the sleeping Eypharian and his dog, enjoying this moment of company before it would so soon come to an end. He shifted a bit his bouncing seeming to have ceased as an intense concentration overtook him considering the task at hand.

"But Hai is not a place of happiness or glory. It has secret wonders, but if it was so magnificent it would not be filled with the refuse of the lands, no? Truth be told many of the factions were upset at how a loner could survive so peaceably among all of them, playing all sides and getting all of the benefits. It just so happened to be Kar's luck that he became the face of the gadgeteer just as all the groups decided that this could no longer stand. the Devourers made their move first, capturing Kar's mother and taking her hostage. If he did not stop making creations for everyone else save them, she would be killed."

Shim was quite solemn now as he spoke, his voice slowing as the ultimate conclusion unfolded before them.

"On one hand the reaction of Kar's should have been easy: Work solely for the Devourers and spare her life, but Kar was not so sure. He thought long and hard how Hai was like a broken gem, an underworld parallel to the city he had left, and just as rising through the ranks of Ahnatep would require removing political weakness, so too did his potential standing in Hai. In the end, he accepted the Devourer's offer and came to their headquarters, but without any of his necessary supplies. His mother's face was beaming at her son's decision until he pulled out a copper and hinged dagger and slit her throat in front of Ahaz. Then he used a smoke bomb to escape from amidst the middle of their very ranks without a single scratch. While being the subject of great peril for his deceit, so too did his name ring out in the depths of Hai for resisting the Devourer's and their cruel regime. To this day he lives below, working as a free agent, a both dangerous, yet truly free life style, and it is said that in his aging he calls himself the Old Man."

Shim sat back. If he was to judge himself personally on his performance he'd give himself a 7 out of 10. It was a solid story, with all the necessary elements, yet the ending was a bit rushed and the listener couldn't truly mourn the mother's death or feel the weight of the decision since she had never been fleshed out truly as a character. He huffed to himself a little in disappointment, but then dull eyes turned to stare at Singh and see how she thought the story had gone, for in the end that was what truly mattered to the little clay man. He clucked his tongue to wake Snowflake, who blinked a few times sleepily before rising and pacing beside her rider, prepared for their imminent departure.

oocIt's fine. And sorry myself for the late reply. I've not been motivated to reply on Singh :/. And thknx, I wasn't too sure if it looked plesent to the eyes. But I think it works for the twins...mite edit up Singh's a little later but for now I'm keeping her's the one before.

Singh watched in interest as the Pycon continued. And a quick impressed look flashed over his face as his bouncing stopped and a stream of concentration flowed around him. While she never liked the thoughts of the people of the great city always being about themselves she simply accepted it. The same thoughts and occurrences were forced into the gligs heads at a young age. 'Do what you can for your success.' Her mother never let up on that guide.

Singh pushed Esha up as she decided to stretch over Singh's lap. Esha was no longer welcome on her lap if she thought she could get away with that. Esha sent her a glare but Singh's attention stayed on the Pycon. Singh no longer liked this part of the tale. And it was no longer familiar. Singh did not approve of the fact that the ungrateful man killed his own mother. She had cared for him and gave him life. And he returns her with false hope and then death. Yes while she was put out of her misery she didn't want to die.

Esha clapped her four arms and a smile broke out. But that was until she actually caught on to what had happened. Then she stopped, "He killed her? What kind of man does that!" Esha was not fully awake so Singh stopped her from embarrassing her, "Do what you can for your success."

Esha glared at her sister, "Don't you start with..." Singh looked at her sister with a look that said, 'You know as well as I do.' Esha stopped and glared at her sister before turning to Shim, "It was a lovely tale... though I apoligze for sleeping. You see I had woken up quite early to drag Singh around and hadn't got much sleep the night before because of training." Esha continued to talk about new recruits that didn't know what they were doing and how a certain kid had potential but he had gotten one of his three arms broken.

Singh returned her gaze to Shim, "I expect more in time." Singh then took the end of her sheath and tore off a small part that was small enough to be worn around Shim's neck, wrist, or even tied to his mount. "Tales of your day." Singh hoped that the Pycon would know that she was meaning for him to tell the tale of this day and the meaning of the cloth, exaggerate it even. But if it picked her words up as something personal then so be it. Let him shape her words.

Esha had missed the exchange but hadn't missed the new missing piece in Singh's clothing and Singh handing a piece of very light blue linen that could fit in it's place. Esha stopped mid-sentence with her mouth open in an unladylike way. Singh had seen it out of the corner of her eye but made no move to correct it. She wanted her attention on the Pycon who had made his move to get ready to leave.

A smile spread slowly and broadly across the Pycon's face. It was not the pleasant expression he stuck there when dealing with most topical Eypharian's, but a genuine expression of positive energy and happiness as he gracefully accepted the gift. The cloth felt lovely in his hand, and Snowflake rotated her head to give it a sniff, turning away in an approving manner. Tiny dexterous hands tied the cloth to saddle bags of his mount, and Shim's expression widened even more at Singh's words.

He had given her a story, and in return she had given him another one, to do as he pleased with. For him it was a more than fair trade. He grinned at Esha's unhappiness with the tale, for which he saw a mirrored appreciation in Singh's gaze. Both entities had gained something new from this experience, and it filled his Nexus with a lovely warmth. The Pycon gave an extended bow to the two elegant sisters.

"It has been Shim's pleasure to entertain you today, and he thanks you immensely for your kind gift. He suspects that Harameus may guide their fates together again, but until next time...farewell."

He straightened out of his bow with a flourish of all four arms, then gave a loud cluck to Snow, who gave her own sort of goodbye snort before trotting off into the streets, the small figure upon the massive dog losing themselves almost instantly.

oocThanks for the wonderful little thread, longer than anticipated, but certainly worth it!

Scarab's Notes
Just a quick timestamp note: the 14th day of Shuuda would be the 24th day of Winter, since Shuuda begins on the 10th. If you could make this adjustment in your thread and character sheets, that would be wonderful.

Singh, I really enjoyed the banter between Esha and Singh! As Sebastion wrote, they portray the "sort of casual dramatics one would expect to see in a play put on public display." They are each wonderful examples of eypharians! & Singh is such an interesting character, with her mixture of wisdom and criticism.

Sebastion, your character's reactions were very engaging to read. I also thought you did a wonderful job with storytelling. The pauses and gesticulations were well-conceived, and I especially enjoyed how the story was not told perfectly and could have been improved on from Shim's end. Very realistic!

Great job, you two. I hope I get to see your characters write together again!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
