[Flashback] The Lonely Sailor Finds Her Place

Timestamp: Summer 512 Day 45

There are those who can't handle seeing their family and friends being brutally murdered without losing it. Pluvia, though, she was able to stay sane. She knew, that she was the last of the Seadreamers. If she went crazy, or died, there would be no one left to remember the small, newly-formed pod. So she kept going, for her family. She had sailed away from the fiery wreckage days ago with tears in her eyes. Then days later her eyes were red and dry. She had no tears left. She had about 6 days of water in her canteen and a good amount of rations left. And so she sailed on, serious and her usual smile was absent from her generally cheerful features. On the Northern Suvan Sea, she floated alone, looking for others. Luckily, it was the warm season. She didn't have to worry about freezing. She was surviving. She knew how to fish if her food ran out. She had learned how to find fresh water on the shores. The weather was warm and the wind was sweet and fresh. All that was missing was others. Others to laugh with her, eat with her, and swim with her. Pluvia smiled at memories of swimming with Unda, and suddenly longed for a companion.

She tossed her anchor into the semi-calm sea. The droplets danced and whirled into the air then back to the Mother Sea. Pluvia shed her clothes and followed their lead, gracefully diving into the bright blue world of the sea. Small schools of fish, lured to her by Oceanus waltzed about, their colorful scales flickering before her eyes. She smiled as she bobbed in the warm water, giggling as they swam, tickling her bare skin. Then she slowly let them go, releasing her hold on them. Then she focused mentally searching for larger creatures. She came across a pod of dolphins, but Unda popped into her mind and she turned away from the idea. It would need to be a different creature. So, she searched. She passed pods of large fish and krill, a pod of humpback whales, but they were to large. Then, she found a small Beluga whale. One that was without a pod, same as her. She call it forth and the whale came willingly. The two quickly became friends and Pluvia named him Lamenta, to symbolize their pasts.

Days past and soon her water ran out. She scavenged water from shores at night and sailled off before dawn mounted her golden throne. Lamenta always swam close to the boat, at least within a nautical mile from Pluvia, in case she should need him. Pluvia swam often with the whale, bonding with her even more. Pluvia was able to catch many fish, only enough to eat, and always let go those who were small, or females that were with eggs, so that Laviku would be pleased and hold back storms that would bring her fragile lifestyle destruction. Hours turned to days and days turned to weeks, and so, she floated, sailed and swam looking for others, and waiting for them to find her.

[Flashback] The Lonely Sailor Finds Her Place

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on December 23rd, 2012, 1:04 pm

45th of Summer 512 AV
North Suvan Sea

The wind was gentle in this part of the northern sea, brushing past the faces if those on deck, gently caressing their cheeks and blowing through the hair of those who grew it out long enough. What little there was filled the sails as they pushed steadily across the surface of the water, a few more than a dozen ships lazily sliding through the sea. Some of the smaller boats were tied off toothier larger cousins, suggesting that their owners had chosen to visit the bigger vessels.

This was what Kirvan was doing now. His small casinor, which he still and yet to name, was tied off to one of the palivars in his pod, the rope tugging at the smaller boat and pulling it along like a dog on a leash. On deck, a few of the Deepseekers were watching a small practice fight that got stepped up into a friendly fight. The two duelers were close friends of Kirvan, Durk and Hamlac, a giant medic and a wiry fighter, both good at their respective practices yet evenly matched when it came to weapons practice it seemed. Their sea brothers and sisters cheered and called out and laughed as the two smacked each other about with the wooden practice weapons, grinning the whole while. Among the watchers was Lia Crucina, eldest in the pod, who was watching with amused interest, keen on seeing these two grow in skill.

Kirvan was beginning to lose interest however, the bloodless fight doing little to ease his boredom, and as such his gaze began wandering over the bow. It was such that his eyes fell on a small ship, a casinor, that was outside the small fleet of deepseeker ships. It flew no device or any other flag, and it was too distant to tell whether it was occupied or not. He peered closely, but could not discern anything more from this distance. Even so, his curiosity was piqued, and he needed to know more.

Making his way around the small duel, Kirvan approached the Lia, who turned to face him as he drew near. "What is it Kirvan?" she asked, her voice flowing like a river over smooth pebbles.

"There is a casinor to port just ahead of our bow," he explained. "I cannot tell whose it is." Standing, the Lia followed him to the side of the boat where he pointed out the casinor, still sitting there in the sea. As with Kirvan, Crucina too peered at the boat, trying and failing to tell any more about it than what was obvious.

"That is most strange," she commented. "Perhaps the owner is swimming, or otherwise occupied." Then the Lia grinned. Or perhaps he or she is not even awake yet."

"Shall I go see?" Kirvan offered, eager to do something to break up the monotonous day that was growing.

Nodding, the Lia turned to face the young seaman. "Thank you brother. If it is a land dweller, see if they would like to share our hospitality a while, or if it is another child of the sea then bring them over so we can talk among family."

Already the young svefra was off, untying his casinor from the palivar and jumping into the Suvan, swimming his way towards his boat. He kicked his legs steadily and brought his arms over as he had learnt, doing a stroke that he found moved much faster on the surface of the others. Grabbing the edge of his boat, he pulled himself over and dropped the line beside his cabin, pulling on the halyards and boom vang and getting ready to set sail. The wind was to the port side of the direction of the unknown casinor, so Kirvan let out the lines until the main sail was about half way out from the ship, putting it into a broad reach. The boat was tugged forward by what wind there was, the young man's curiosity eager to be sated as he pushed his ship onward.
