Basic Information

Name: Casper Cross
Race: Human, Svefra
Age: 39
Birthday: 20 Winter, 474 A.V.
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 142 lbs.
Location: Zeltiva

Appearance :
Casper Cross is a male of five feet and ten inches in stature, one hundred forty-two pounds in weight (mostly muscle), on the slightly shorter and the thinner side. He is very pale, with pale blue "serpent" eyes, a sign of his connection to Laviku, although it is the only possible way to connect him to his Svefra bloodline via appearance. Casper's eyes have permanent bags of tiredness, and his lips are perpetually pursed. His teeth are straight and in good color, save for two gold teeth, one in the top row near the side and one in the bottom row near the front, but have lost their shine from many days at sea without a tooth brush. Casper's face is slightly squared and he has an untrustworthy overall appearance. His eyes are both piercing and unsettling, and absent. The alert yet absent look in his eyes is due to his constant smoking of blue vision. The pirate's breath, as a result of smoking, has an odd smell that is both somewhat pleasant and unsettling. His real hair is dark brown and is cut short to hide underneath his bleached white, powdered wig. Cross wears a black felt tricorne hat atop his wig, a black wool jacket, a bright white cravat, a black wool vest with simple buckles and chains, a long-sleeved white shirt underneath, a short-sleeved white undershirt under the shirt, black wool breeches, high black boots, a black leather belt with a simple buckle and simple chains, suspenders, black leather lace-trimmed gloves, a black leather eye patch, long white cotton socks/men's stockings, and lace-trimmed undergarments. A metal pipe with a metal mouthpiece hangs from his lips all day, even when in bed. It is practically glued to his mouth. The pipe is almost always stuffed with blue vision. Attached to his belt with chains is a scabbard, which contains a broadsword with a swordstealer hilt,. On the back of the wrist of his left arm is a simple black outline tattoo of a crown, in commemoration of "Her Majesty" and "Her Majesty's Revenge" (former ships of his). The crown has three sharp triangle points that protrude symmetrically from the flat, two dimensional rim of the medium-height adornment. On Casper's back is the mark of the Oceanus gnosis from Laviku. It features a relatively large blue and white tattoo of crashing waves in a mighty thunderstorm with strong winds and rain. A mighty ship, on the verge of capsizing, sits atop the waves, which are enormous in comparison. Casper has dozens of small-sized and medium-depth scars all across his hands, feet, arms, legs, neck, torso, and head. These he earned from fencing, sword fights, bar fights, and fishing piracy, and all of the seafaring that came with it. On Casper's right cheek is a longitudinal, relatively deep scar from a snapped fishing net, earned during his early adolescence. On both of his wrists are longitudinal slices and on his neck a thin scar, as well as two deep stab wounds: one near his stomach and one at his side in the back. All of these wounds are the results of failed murder attempts from opposing sailors, passengers, authorities, and even own crew members, during Captain Cross's days of piracy from end of the 490s to the early 510s. He also has general signs of exhaustion through wrinkles and stress on his skin, and his occasionally trembling hands and jaw. His left eye twitches and is covered by an eye patch.

Character Concept :
Captain Casper Cross is a mystery of a man. His childhood and early adulthood were consumed entirely by fishing, schooling, and studying, with an hour or two of sleep in between each day or two. Almost forty years of seafaring with winds, rains, and sea monsters has brought death too often only hairs away from the man.
Cross is the least bit Svefra in culture. Although blessed by the mark of Laviku, and possessing the signature blue eyes, he was raised by a pure human in a pure human environment. As a result, Cross acts like a normal, high class human. He wears normal clothes and bears only one tattoo, not including his gnosis mark, which is not for a pod, but rather commemoration of his pirate vessels of old.
Despite having nearly no connection to his Svefra brothers and sisters, Cross nonetheless knows the basics of the Fratava language, which he learned along his seafaring travels, and he possesses the marine powers from his Oceanus mark. That is, Cross has ocean sense within a nautical mile, he can control sea animals to a certain degree, he is able to gain a general situation report of the vicinity of the ocean around him by hardwiring himself, and he can sense and control ocean currents to a certain degree.
Although well educated and cared for by his father, Casper never shared an emotional relationship with the fisherman that went beyond business, and any care that was present was done to a degree of necessity. Having no affection or emotion at his home (the ship, where he had spent most of his time, and still does) Casper understands emotion, but he does not have any of his own. He is able to publicly camouflage superficially, but truly, he is a frigid person.
Casper Cross belongs on the sea, but he does not accept the poor life of a fisherman, so he takes up piracy for extra coin. He does not take orders; he only knows how to give them, but he gives them well. Cross is cold, emotionless, and merciless. He is a criminal, a robber, an uncaught lawbreaker. He is a pirate.
Captain Cross experiences dozens of thought processes at once, analyzing a situation and deciding his best course of action. This is what allowed him to captain a ship of fifty men for well over a decade to commit acts of piracy, murder, rape, trespass, arson, and much more.
Cross is not a man of many words. He holds his tongue until he is certain that his words will be the most effective possible. He speaks slightly slurred and with a rasped voice, one of his countless qualities from nonstop smoking of blue vision, and a commanding tone. His vocabulary is succinct and he accentuates his syllables. His left eye twitches, also from smoking. His metal pipe, stuffed with blue, is only out of his mouth when he is refilling it and when he sleeps. On that eye is an eye patch, to cover up the twitch and also for its traditional use, which is to expose an eye to darkness so that the sailor can see below deck by opening the patch and closing his other eye. He wears this eye patch all of the time.
Casper's constant smoking of blue vision, although it is technically not considered a drug, gives him a slightly not-there appearance, but also shows alertness in a different respect. Inside, Cross feels as if he is walking underwater, and all is quiet. The smoke no longer gives him euphoria, now it prevents the headaches that he experiences from not smoking it, and it minimizes all stress. The effect of the smoke allows him to make rash decisions on the spot, removing pressure and stress, while also altering his thought process. At the same time, it greatly increases his visuospatial awareness. The smoke's thought alterations combined with Casper's intelligence and wisdom (mainly of the sea and of swordsmanship) create a unique blend of "slightly mad" but also enhance him in some ways, and degrade him, too. Without any substances and before them, Casper Cross is and was still completely out of the ordinary in morality, but he simply had no way of discovering this quality or exercising it until his father passed away.
Despite his being a pirate, Cross does not curse too excessively, he brushes his teeth relatively frequently, he keeps his clothes, hair, and wig clean, and he keeps his temper down. When he feels it justified or able to be executed with the possibility of avoiding the authorities, Casper willingly commits crimes. If his pride is insulted, he draws his broadsword and fights to the death of his foe.
Cross has a strong sense of pride and dignity, which can sometimes conflict with his logical plan for the situation at hand. He is willing to protect those that are useful to him or that he otherwise likes.
Casper Cross is brave, patient, and responsible. He is stubborn, self-disciplined, organized, and self-aware. At the same time, he is a liar, he cares little to none for others; he is a robber, a murderer. He is a calm man, a violent man; a rough pirate that dresses as if these qualities do not belong to him.

Character History :
Casper Cross was born in Zeltiva in Winter 474 A.V. to two unknown Svefra. He was cast out on a raft in the Suvan to die, but was luckily found by a human fisherman. The poor human fisherman found the baby with its eyes barely opened. It bore a fresh tattoo of Laviku on its back. To this day, Casper's exact day of birth could be off by one, maximum two days. His abandonment was probably due to his eyes not opening early enough, a sign of a lack of connection to Laviku, or a defect. The fisherman, as a normal human fisherman, raised his son as a human, despite his inference that the mysterious baby was a Svefra. The fisherman lived in Zeltiva, but was traveling in the Suvan in 474 A.V.. He brought his adopted son home with him to Matthews Bay, Zeltiva.
Cross was exposed to the sea from conception, and remained in it for most of his life, including now. When he was not at sea helping his father catch fish, Cross attended school, and the University of Zeltiva when he came of age. In his studies, Casper concerned himself mostly with more training in sailing and navigation, as well as classes in swordsmanship and fencing.
This fishing and school schedule continued for Casper until he was twenty-two years of age and newly graduated. During a fishing voyage, before Casper could speak to his father about finally leaving to travel, pirates came out of nowhere, killing his father and looting all of the ship’s supplies. Casper fought them off with his father's freshly dropped broadsword, but only managed to injure one or two, until the bunch ran off. Although in terrible rage and sadness, Cross was in awe at the power of the pirates; they could quite easily take what ever they wanted, and get away with it.
With two decades of experience plus schooling, Cross was fit to captain his own ship. He maintained his father's casinor, "Wooden Fish," with which he had sailed for the whole of his life, and his father for most of his own.
Two years after the beginning of his piracy and after several small, risky heists in the Sylira coasts that yielded little reward, a twenty-four year old Casper Cross decided he needed a crew.
Storing away his living quarters to allow for more space, Cross recruited four crew members to aid him. With these men, Cross, under the cover of a fisherman in fishing boat with fishermen, effectively committed dozens of acts of piracy along the Sylira and Cyphrus southern coasts, especially Sylira. The small band of pirates became rich, and along the way, they, or mainly Cross, eventually even purchased an eighty ton cargo sloop, "Her Majesty," moving out of the cramped casinor, and recruited dozens more men. With this drastic expansion, a war sloop with nearly fifty men at his side, Captain Cross had moved up his game tremendously. After four years of plundering, Cross's crew, after three costly and risky attempts, seized a galleon, although "Her Majesty" was sunk during the final attempt. Over the course of fourteen years, four of which included a crew of fifty, and ten years of which were on the galleon "Her Majesty's Revenge" with a crew of two hundred, the crew plundered hundreds upon hundreds of ships and sunk hundreds of them around the entirety of Mizahar, although mostly in the southern hemisphere. More goods and mizas were stolen by this crew than Cross has ever imagined, but he had captained every single voyage. On top of that, almost inevitably, the crew had killed men in the thousands, raped women in the hundreds, and killed a relatively low quantity of children. Torture for information on locations of goods, maps, and for plain old fun was commonplace, too.
Never once was Cross himself arrested. Many crew members were captured over the years, but their loyalty was ensured with threats from the captain himself. Officers of the law and witnesses that were aware of the piracy were instantly killed. Every man left alive aboard the galleon when its control was ceded was kicked from the deck and left to drown.
The risky business of Captain Cross was, to his belief, guided by a tremendous amount of luck. After all, sixteen years of heavy plundering along treacherous, monster-ridden, stormy waters was a very long time. The captain was so convinced that his glory days were over that he, during a long stop, brought out his old casinor and tied her to the dock in his hometown, Zeltiva. When Cross was just about to make a caravan ride back to Syliras, where his ship was docked and his crew awaited, intending to forfeit his rank of captain to his first mate, he received fresh news that Syliran knights had just raided the galleon pirate ship, killing over a dozen crew members, and she had burned down by accident (in the fray, from torches). The over fifteen dozen other pirates dispersed and disappeared, including Cross himself. Cross had not finished packing, so his entire share of loot was still on the ship when she was destroyed.
Casper Cross, although prepared, was in a panic at the loss of his crew, his ship, and his coin; his life. He was glad, however, that the galleon was at least destroyed now and not in the hands of the Syliran Knights. He hid in his old ship for nearly a month, certain that the knights were after him. After a bit of searching, however, he discovered that his name was not released, nor had it ever been. His reputation was simply that he had been fishing privately for sixteen years. Delighted at this news, Casper decided he would return to fishing, this time without piracy.
But the thought of gold tempted the broke, middle aged sailor. Despite being back to square one and losing a crew of a net at least three hundred, Cross was determined that sticking near the southern coasts, gulfs, and islands would bring him enough riches. After all, a fisherman’s life was of no luxury, but the life of a skilled robber was.
After a year in Zeltiva’s Matthews Bay, his homeplace, consisting of reinsertion of his living quarters, cleaning, repairing, and repainting in all black his over half-century old casinor, which he renamed the "Ghost Maiden," and stocking her with food, water, and supplies, Captain Casper Cross was back in business in 513 A.V. in both fishing and piracy.
