Winter 512AV, Day 12. High Noon.

Samantha sat in the clearing outside of the Gaping Maw completely naked. The sun was warm on her back as she waited, her eyes closed in content. Several men had thought it funny to come near her and attempted to flirt with her but she simply growled and flashed them a predatory glare. They soon backed off and left her alone.

All together people had stopped trying to talk or make confirmation of any kind with her. She was glad too, if they had continued she would have had to shift and lay in her tiger form. Likely to draw the attention of unwanted hunters. Samantha sighed and rolled her head, letting out kinks in her neck.

Samantha's eyes snapped open when she caught the familiar sent of Svan as he got closer. Samantha couldn't see him yet but she could smell him so he must be close. She perked up her senses and waited for a spike of anything familiar about the man who wished to spar with her. She knew the man was intelligent and didn't suspect for a second he wouldn't find a way to make up for the lack of weapons.

In Samantha's eyes a true spar was just yourself and your environment. Nothing to add into the fight. But everyone had different thoughts on what the environment is.

The Feline and the Snake. A Bite for Trickery.

......... My journey is my destination.

.

.

The dhani form. Perhaps the single most powerful ability among any sentient race. Capable of twice the strength of a human, poisonous enough to kill with a single bite, three times the size of a human, able to clearly at night, and to top it all off I have a club at the tip of my tail. Is there anything in the world that can rival my dhani form? Apperently yes, and it comes in the form of little white ice crystals.

Svan was in a foul mood. He had hoped that he might get lucky and that Ionus would decide to make it warm for the day, but when Svan had woken up in the morning it was lightly snowing. Luckily it had warmed enough to stop snowing now, but Svan still bore the look of a man walking to the guillotine as he dragged himself outside the city. Approaching the duel site, Svan cursed silently at the cold and held a plate close to his face. Atop the plate was a bit of burning oil that Svan was using as a desperate attempt to keep up his body heat. He moved the oil to his joint, hoping that if he could keep them warm his body might not lock up as quickly. Slowly Svan made his way to the clearing where he was met with a sight he would rather forget. Sitting there waiting for him was a naked Samantha. Svan wasn't normaly bothered by nudity, but he found the idea of fighting a woman who was this...exposed rather tedious. He let out a growl of disgust, and turned his gaze to his surroundings.

It wasn't perfect but it would have to do. Svan had spent the better part of the previous day preparing their sparring field. He had used his sword breaker to rake all the crunchy dry leaves into a corner of the clearing where they no longer hid the roots and fallen branches that littered the ground. Svan had also taken time to cut some of the small roots that would have likely broken the ankles of the two of them should they accidentily get their feet caught. There were a few larger roots towards the edges of the clearing that Svan had no hope of cutting so he did his best to make careful note of their locations as he doubted that he would have a chance to do so later. The most prominent feature of the clearing was a pile of large rocks that formed a small cliff roughly 2 meters high. While the rocks could serve as an advantageous position, it was unfortunately far closer to the tigress than Svan, and he was not looking forward to the idea of having to sprint past her to gain the high ground.

Breathing deeply to steel himself Svan walked towards the center of the clearing, feet squelching on the wet leaves that he had been unable to rake away. He came to a stop roughly fifteen paces from Samantha, and blew out the oil. Setting the plate to the ground Svan took out several other bottles of the oil and laid them aside the plate. Finally Svan unfastend his scabbard and shoved the tip into the earth so that it stood straight. Now a bit lighter Svan went over the what he still had left for this fight.

As usual he wore a significant amount of clothing. On the outside Svan wore his old torn clothing, but a layer beneath he wore cheap expendable clothing as a means to keep him warm. On his back Svan wore his newly dubbed 'battle' pack. It was honestly just a simple thin backpack that he wore under his cloak. However the part that Svan like about it was that the side pouches were angled so that Svan could reach into them without having to remove the backpack. In the left pouch Svan stored a bar of soap, a flint and steel, a few coins, and a tiny bead he had been playing with earlier. In the right pouch was a large water skins filled with ice water, and held by a pair a straps under the backpack was a roll of canvas with a vine fishing net rolled in it. It had taken quite some time to find that last item in the bizarre and he was unsure of its quality, but technicly Svan was only allowed to use the 'enviorment' so it would have to do. Above all of this was a thick black cloak gave off a strange foriegn smell as it beat in wind.

Svan made a small nod as he mentaly checked over his plans for the fight, and turned his attention back to Samantha. "No weapons, just as you asked" Svan had an unkind expression on his face. His scowl slowly began to turn into a devious smile and he spoke again, "You know its funny, I bought you a gift yesterday and had planned to deliver it to you when I realized I don't even know your name. Oh well, I guess I'll just give it to you now" Svan's hand went into his bag and produced the bar of soap. He threw it at her feet and gave her a smile that might seem sincere if it wasn't so obvious he was trying to be rude. "You know, for those infectious claws of yours."

Samantha's eyes narrowed as Svan came closer. He was clothed as he was the day before but now he had on a large black cloak that smelled of... Samantha couldn't place it.

She watched as he turned his face away in disgust after taking a look at her. She simply shrugged, it did not matter what he thought of her body. She was fit and her body not as scarred as many would like to think.

She nodded in respect as the man parted with a sword and several vials. But a scowl took place over her face when her tossed her a bar of soap in hope of insulting her. She picked it up and tossed it into the foliage around, " I do have a home here. Thank you for wasting money." Samantha stood and stretched before taking a mocking bow, "Grenth. Samantha Grenth. Originated from Lhavit." After a few seconds she let go off all facial expressions, "Enough foreplay."

Cracking her stiff bones she let the shift take over. Quick, painless, and smooth. Gone was the olive toned woman and in place was a large tigress. 415 pounds and eight feet of muscle.

Samantha passed a couple steps and stretched like a cat to get used to her four legged form before putting her full attention on Svan.

Perfect. Just petching perfect. Svan had honestly hoped that she would at least attempt to fight him in her human form, but it seemed that he would have no such luck. Svan stood there staring down the tiger in a hope to gauge the threat she posed. The fact that she had shifted so early likely meant one of two things. Either she wasn't a great fighter in her human form, or she was very skilled in her human form but even MORE skilled in her tiger one. Knowing that no plan could save him from the latter, Svan decided to place all his faith on the idea that she believed she might not be experienced enough to fight him in her human form. If this was true, then Svan felt he might just have a chance. He wasn't particularly skilled himself, but he could hold his own better than most people.

Under his thick layers of clothes he tensed and relaxed his muscles, trying his best to determine how long they would hold out in this cold. With a fair estimate of his current strength in his head he cycled through the plans he had made for this fight. Noticing that she had finished stretching Svan took a stance to signal that he was prepared. As he did so the last bits of his revised plan began to fall together. In the cold, Svan couldn't hope to fight an exausting battle, but nor could he hope to end this quickly by overpowering her. Instead Svan decided to either bide his time or start staging the fight to his advantage. However at the moment Svan wasn't quite sure how to approach it. So what is her game? Defence? Offence? Perhaps she will employ ranged attacks. Svan smiled at his little joke, but the seriousness of the issue was still there. Until he saw her fighting style Svan had no way to choose one of his own, and while he was proud enough to fight a tiger, he was not dumb enough to charge headfirst into its maw. Looking cooly at the woman Svan spoke, "My word, you are certainly a big pussycat aren't you?" A moment went by and remebered that the she couldn't speak in her tiger form, "What? No boorish comebacks? Whats wrong, loose your nerve?" He couldn't resist. The the chance to tease someone who could say nothing back was too much for him to resist, "Oh wait! Let me guess." A wry smile twisted around his face "Cat got your tounge?" He had been so amused by his own jokes that just barely realized that his stance had lossened. Finding his base once again he chided himself If I don't learn some petching self restraint, these jokes will be the death of me one day. In fact-, He thought as he stared at the tiger's teeth, "-that day may come sooner than I'd like.

With that last thought Svan cleared his head and prepared himself to counter the attacks he knew were coming.

Samantha smiled a smile that only a predator could pull off when staring down its prey. While he shot off insults at her she simply brushed them off. She was used to idiots thinking that while she could not say words back would offend it. It actually made her laugh. She was a animal, not a human. Her only real need of words was to show them how lesser they were to her. A simple animal can push your face into the ground and possibly eat you.

As he continued with the insults she calmly began to lower into a pouncing position. But she didn't move. She waited until the fool realized his mistakes and set himself up before she began moving her tail above her. Slowly moving it. The trick usually worked. While her whole body laid poised for action only the stripes of her tail moved, like a snake she mused. It would usually bring their attention to it wandering if the poor tiger wasn't a great huntress. And that's when she would attack. Jumping for the throat, but in this case what she wanted wasn't his throat. No she wanted his arm. Whether or not he would be distracted by the form of distraction was another story.

Svan. A man with a wit sharp enough to fool others, and yet dull enough to be easily lead astray by even the dumbest of people. This was how most people viewed Svan, and it wasn't entirely untrue. Despite being fairly clever, Svan had a knack for playing into the hands of others. It was often something that puzzled people. How could someone be so clever one moment and so foolish the next. The answer was simple. Pride. Svan's hubris was often his undoing, and nearly anyone close to Svan knew it. Pride had cost him dozens of gold coins, the success of many of his schemes, and had caused him more scars than he could count. Perhaps he felt some need to act more prideful because he was forced to hide his true self. Perhaps it was due to the fact that other races looked down on his. Or perhaps he was just another cocky fool drunk on his own ego. Whatever the case, this was the greatest and often only reason for his occasional abandonment of wit.

Luckily for Svan this wasn't such a time. In fact it was Svan's pride that now kept his focus from wandering. Having already once dropped his focus he wasn't about to do it again. Not while she was watching at any rate. Right now his gaze was trained on the tiger's posture. Specificly the fact that she had coiled her body low to the ground. The unmistakable stance of a predator ready to strike. Svan would know, he had done a variation of it enough times himself. Realizing that she wasn't planning on making the first move, Svan decided to make his. Carefully and cautiously Svan took steps to circle the tiger. His goal was to reach the rock on the opposite side of the clearing so that he could have the high ground, but any attempts for a direct sprint to the rocks would likely be met with a tiger on his back. Instead Svan circled in the opposite direction, doing his best to make her believe that he was trying something else. It was a risky move however. If stopped now he would be even farther from the rocks that he had started. Still he couldn't think of any better plan to end this stare down. So with severe caution and a firm stance, Svan slowly worked his way around the tiger. All the while he prayed that she would have the humor to circle along with him like in any of the romanticized duels he had heard tale of in bars.

Samantha was slightly disappointed he didn't take the bait. But he seemed to be circling around her. At first she didn't see the point until she remembered the rock that lay on the opposite end. She could either take that advantage away from him, stand upon it and growl. Or she could leap backwards and move to block his path.

Deciding to go with neither of them she simply turned so he was still in eye sight but so was the rock. And then she sat, she wanted to see what the fool would accomplish if she stayed there while he was on the rock. Cocking her head to the side she allowed her tail to whip back and forth on the damp ground. That's when it hit her.

She would wait until he was trying to get on the rock before charging. Or if he was paying to much attention to her to notice a large root sticking up about 8 feet from him. She didn't want to make the first move. It would be too easy to end the fight there,no..she wanted to see what he was planning and how he planned to fight a tigress.

The Feline and the Snake. A Bite for Trickery.

Postby Licearsvansan on January 15th, 2013, 6:10 am

That little shyke! Is she mocking me?! Svan was furious. She was mocking him, she had to be. Why else would she be sitting there all neat as Svan was forced to count the steps until he could set his plan into motion. He almost took off at her, and refrained from doing so only by the inevitable loathing he would have towards himself if he allowed himself to be beat in such a foolish manner.

Instead Svan continued his movements until he was as close as he could be to the rock. Then pivoting on his heel, Svan turned around with purpose, and promptly high-fived the ground. With his face. Petching roots. While the soil in this region wasn't exactly forgiving, the recently melted snow and slick fallen leave had softened the earth just enough for Svan to see an vague imprint of his face in the dirt as he lifted his head. Under any other circumstance Svan would have lightened the situation by etching a smile into the print, but Svan had a tiger behind his back and little enough strength to fight it off. Shaking free the fuzzyness he was feeling, Svan scrambled to his feet. Petch, petch, petch, PETCH! Next time I'm going to buy a petching axe to take out these petching roots so I don't get eaten by a petching tiger. As he hurried to find his footing amongst the slimey leaves, Svan realized that he was wasting precious time and energy. A paniced look shot accross on his face. Distracted by his fall Svan had lost track of the tigress. With her feline speed she could be just about anywhere, and he knew it. Fear caused addrenalin to rush through his body, and he whipped his head back towards the tigress to she what she had done as Svan lay vulnerable.

Samantha watched with interest as he proceeded with frustration pouring out of him when she sat. Samantha let out a loud chuffle when he didn't notice the root and then fell on his face. As he scrambled to his feet she moved. Quick to action she ran towards the rock. She didn't get on top but simply poised in front of it ready to just and her mouth open with a loud hiss.

He moved as though he hadn't realized she would move. And that's when she saw it, panic swept across his face as he turned to where she had been. Samantha took the opportunity to launch. Trying to at least tackle him or ram into him to send him flying. Either on would work for her so long as he realized she was aware of his movements.

The Feline and the Snake. A Bite for Trickery.

Postby Licearsvansan on January 17th, 2013, 5:09 pm

Eyes wide, heart beating fast, Svan turned back to where the tiger previously sat just in time to see...nothing. This did nothing to easy Svan's mind. In truth, it terrified him even further. She could be anywhere, behind the rock, hidden amongst the trees at the clearing's edge, or even above him in mid-pounce.

thump thump

thump thump

Or she could be behind him only feets away from sending him airborne. Svan's ear caught the muffled sound of pawed feet drawing near at an alarming rates. His heart skipped at least five beats and his mind locked in paralysis. Fear drove his rational mind to the depths of his head, and instinct took over. A blind clarity took over, one keen to his surrounding but not to his own thoughts.

Fight or flight? His body braced for both as he crouched low.

Fight or flight? Svan coiled to face the tiger, analyzing his options at a blinding pace.

Fight or flight? Time was gone. A tiger, fierce and powerful, loomed ahead.

Fight of flight? Flight or fight? A hand curled into a ball. A body twisted and unwound, rising up with deadly momentum. An arm swung out in an ark, and a fist sailed though the air, poised at the tigers skull. The time for flight was gone, and it was with firm resolve that Svan decided that if he should sustain any wounds from from this clash. He would prefer that they remind him fondly of the one he was about to cause her. Fueled by his full inhuman strength, and backed by both of there considerable momentum, he had little doubt such a blow would leave a mark. Perhaps even more. In the last moments before the collision he smiled. "If she found the imprint of my face in the dirt so funny, then lets see how she enjoy one of my fist."
