Svasra Snowsong

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
-Marcus Garvey

Copying Jesslyn's movement as she slid her hands to the side, Svasra withdrew from the painting and listened to the other woman, "Yeah, it needs to dry. It shouldn't take that long. And don't wash your hand just yet." Nodding, Svasra carefully retreated from the table, feeling as though she would fall over and break it (it would be just the kind of luck of life). As she leaned her weight against the wall, Jesslyn continued to talk of the painting to pass the time until they could continue. "Painting with your hands makes you feel like a kid... but to me it's like I can see. It's... actually pretty interesting if you ask me. Maybe I could show you... This painting shall be entirely out of fingers."

Svasra watched as Jesslyn put away the painting tools, and smiled. "And that's.... how the Snowglow tumble," Jesslyn said with a short laugh. Svasra chuckled as well, moving towards the girl.
"I think it will be more fun that way," she agreed with a glance towards her hands. "Perhaps I should rinse them off though to make sure the colors don't mix when I use a new one?" she asked, and watched the girl wipe her hands off on the table. Svasra forced herself not to search for some cleaning supplies.

In the ten minute prelude, Svasra itched to ask Jesslyn about her life in Whitevine Hold, and how she dealt with leaving it behind. Finally she asked, "Do you miss Whitevine Hold?"

It made her wonder how much she would miss Snowsong Hold. Svasra held her hands locked together to prevent herself from tapping a palm against her leg in thought. Her Hold was the only home she'd ever known. This adventuring spirit was severely dampened by the fear of leaving the familiar behind, and the friends she'd made. Either way, Svasra felt Spring was coming closer and her decision needing to be made. Until then though, she could paint with a friend using only her fingers and a color called 'seashell'.

Jesslyn simply shook her head when Svasra mentioned rinsing her hands. There was absolutley none of that going to happen on Jesslyn's.... feel?

Jesslyn was tapping her fingers to a beat when Svasra finally broke the silence, "Do you miss Whitevine Hold." Jesslyn's fingers stopped and she tossed her head side to side.

Jesslyn hadn't been asked that question before. Jesslyn slowly slid to the floor and tapped her fingers slowly on her knee. "I guess... there are time's when I wished I still lived in the busy, busy Hold." Jesslyn's fingers skipped over a beat but she didn't notice, "I mean. I was never alone there. There was always someone with or near me." Jesslyn let a small laugh loose, "Even if they were injured it still helped."

Jesslyn sighed, "But I guess my heart will always truly be in medicines. Maybe if I had stayed I could have learned something I could do in the Whitevine Hold but it is too much a danger to try." Jesslyn's fingers stopped, "But I don't think I'll ever miss the disappointment and pity."

Jesslyn's eye's slowly faded to a dark red that held heat and caused tingles in the dead eyes, "It was horrible always living in a place where people were disappointed that the child of well prospered Parents were given a blind child who couldn't uphold the Hold. And they pitied me because I didn't have a set skill they could see." Jesslyn fingers clenched into fists.

Jesslyn's eyes stayed the same but they weren't as mad and heated as before, "Why do you ask?"

Svasra Snowsong

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."

When Svasra asked her question, Jesslyn seemed surprised and stayed silent for a moment. She slid slowly down to the floor, with Svasra following with a tad worried expression at being so blunt. "I guess... there are time's when I wished I still lived in the busy, busy Hold," Jesslyn finally said. Her fingers faltered but Jesslyn smoothly went to the next movement, though the skip was seen by Svasra as her ear automatically felt the rhythm of the beat. "I mean. I was never alone there. There was always someone with or near me," Jesslyn continued with a quiet laugh, "Even if they were injured it still helped."

Nodding Svasra thought Jesslyn was finished in the pause that followed, though a sudden heated statement pierced the air between them, "But I don't think I'll ever miss the disappointment and pity." Svasra looked over at her friend whose eyes had turned dark and emotional. "It was horrible always living in a place where people were disappointed that the child of well prospered Parents were given a blind child who couldn't uphold the Hold. And they pitied me because I didn't have a set skill they could see." She reached out to put her hand over Jesslyn's clenched fist, squeezing it lightly. "Why do you ask?"

I'm not sure if I should have, came Svasra's initial thoughts as she sighed quietly. "I'm sorry if I stirred bad memories," she said quietly, wanting to just gather the younger girl in her arms. "I was only curious, since I was wondering if I have the bravery to leave my Hold behind as you did, though I have nothing bad to say about it," she murmured. "This .... Sylvia you mention, she does not live with you?"

Jesslyn fists slowly unclenched when she felt a soft hand lay over hers. Jesslyn sighed at he childish behavior, 'Nothing to get worked up about. You're doing fine now.'

Jesslyn wanted to laugh when Svasra asked about Sylvia. So she didm "Sylvia?" Jesslyn snorted and smiled, "No, she lives with her husband. She's the one who helped get me over here." Jesslyn shook her head, "That free spirit can't stand to be in my place for too long without having to clean it."

Jesslyn swiped the ground and held up a blue finger with hints of dust, "I can't do much with out hurting myself so she has gotten into the habit of cleaning. She knows where to put everything so I can find it." Jesslyn took the hand that was still on hers and dragged them up.

"It should be dry by now. Come let's check." Jesslyn's eyes slowly faded to a blank dull gray that shouldn't shift but always did when she was angry.

"Sylvia?" Jesslyn echoed with an amused snort. She seemed to have gotten over the anger that stirred her words earlier, which enabled Svasra to relax a tad. "No, she lives with her husband. She's the one who helped get me over here. That free spirit can't stand to be in my place for too long without having to clean it." Taking a quick glance around once more, Svasra couldn't really blame her; the place looks like a small polar bear Kelvic ran through, definitely not the safest place for someone who could step on a knife without knowing it.

"I can't do much with out hurting myself so she has gotten into the habit of cleaning. She knows where to put everything so I can find it," Jesslyn continued, dragging them both up with a comment to check on the painting.
"What Hold does she live in?" Svasra asked politely, wondering if she was a Whitevine as Jesslyn as only to marry into another Hold. Following Jesslyn she tested the side of the canvas with her pinky, and saw no paint on her hand after she pulled away. Well no new paint, seeing as most of her hands were covered in blue. "Makes me look like an Akalak," she muttered to herself with a tinge of amusement.

Touching the bottle of seashell, Svasra saw how it would spread across the page to impersonate Morwen's Lights. It didn't seemed too difficult ... after all they were just swirling lights right? She traced her finger just over the canvas in case anything might ruin the dry paint, sketching in her mind what might appear nice. Being a storyteller, visual images came up easily as she often just dictated what was being played out in her mind's eye. Trying to think of painting like this, Svasra found it much more plausible that she wouldn't mess up. Well, she'd like to think that anyways. "We start with this color?" she asked, looking into it as she couldn't read the braille on the side. "Seashell?" she said after a moment.

"Well she used to live in Whitevine with me but she married into this Hold. I guess there's more to it then he just randomly married her... I think they were having a relationship secretly. They do act like it." Jesslyn nodded her head in amusement.

Samantha caught a couple words of Svasra mumbling and let out a small laugh, "I have no idea what a Akalak looks like so I'll have to take your word for it."

Jesslyn started to search through the bottles and found seashell was missing. Frowning she went to ask Svasra where it went when Svasra asked if that was the color they were starts with. "Oh, there it is." Jesslyn searched around the table for an empty, or one that had dried paint in it, bowl.

Not finding one she simply shrugged. 'Guess we're using the table.' "Yes. I don't think all the colors clash together in a gambled mess.... In less they do then we won't need it." Jesslyn's fingers felt around the table for her knife. When her fingers touched it she smiled, "It will separate the different colored lights."

Jesslyn brought the knife to the canvas and waited, "Ummm, how do we want the lights to be separated? Straight lines, Curves, zigzag?" Jesslyn paused, "Here you make the lines, no to cover the whole thing, and I'll set up the paint. Sound good?"

Svasra Snowsong

Jesslyn seemed amused as she answered Svasra, "Well she used to live in Whitevine with me but she married into this Hold. I guess there's more to it then he just randomly married her... I think they were having a relationship secretly. They do act like it." A secret relationship? As she shifted her weight onto the back of her leg, Svasra nodded quietly, fingers twitching into a rhythm.
"It is good they married, it is always the happier ending," she murmured though it was barely a whisper if Jesslyn even heard it. For a moment she stayed silent, then voiced, "What is his name?"

Jesslyn began to explain how the painting would go as she picked the seashell up from Svasra's hands, "Yes. I don't think all the colors clash together in a gambled mess.... In less they do then we won't need it." She picked up a knife and held it over the painting, more at ease with it than Svasra thought was possible. She was uneasy with a knife was it was, and she could see it. "It will separate the different colored lights. Ummm, how do we want the lights to be separated? Straight lines, Curves, zigzag? Here you make the lines, no to cover the whole thing, and I'll set up the paint. Sound good?"

Nodding, Svasra took the knife and peered at the canvas in its blue. "Curves, the lights of Morwen are curved." She gently ran the knife down the canvas, letting her wrist gently turn in time to the music of Morwen's Lights. Which, to Svasra, was simply the beat of her own heart, thrumming its steady rhythm. "There are only a few colors at a time, that change as they twist, and become lighter as they stretch towards earth," Svasra continued as she finished off the gentle, sloping lines. Picking up the seashell color, she looked toward her friend, "Put the seashell on now?"

"Christopher." Jesslyn chuckled, "His parents lack the in the naming district." Jesslyn shuffled around going through the bottle had brought over. 'A good choice,' Jesslyn thought.

"You know...curves are cool and all but I think my favorite shape would be a triangle. You can do the most things with it." Jesslyn nodded her head and listened to Svasra describe the lights. "Oh don't do it like that." Jesslyn tapped her foot quickly to see Svasra before she grabbed and cradled the bottle, "Here."

Jesslyn turned to the table and found a place far enough from the canvas and the edge of the table and tipped the paint. A spot of thick seashell came out and sat. Pooling a little outwards. "Stick your fingers in it and do this." Jesslyn set down the bottle and dipped a finger in it.

She moved one hand to the canvas to feel for the first cut and placed her hand there. Letting one finger go down the curvy line a little in order to make room for the colored one Jesslyn slowly got rid of the chipped paint and allowed her fingers to guide each other.

When she pulled away a drip of seashell landed on her bare feet making her shiver from the cold. "There. Just like that. And when you do it... close your eyes and let your fingers follow the line."

Svasra Snowsong

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."

Svasra watched as Jesslyn carefully traced the lines, running her finger in front of the other as a guide. She adjusted to each swoop so easily, Svasra could almost sense the pattern was already in Jesslyn's mind. The woman leaned closer, waiting until the painter reached the very end, smiling to herself. "I see," she murmured.
"There. Just like that. And when you do it... close your eyes and let your fingers follow the line."
"Close my eyes?" Svasra echoed, shifting with a shake of her head. "I don't think I'll be able to . . ."

Taking a breath, Svasra dipped her finger into the paint, shifting to enable herself to trace it with her left hand. She placed her finger at the beginning of the line, and slowly closed her eyes. The Vantha let her finger trail the other, feel the cool paint drift over the lines. She found it . . . amazing really. Imagining just this solitary color come to life on a blue palate, seen in her mind, and weaving with the movement of her other hand as she traced the line was quite the mental picture to behold. It seemed just as beautiful to see the two lines stretched beside each other on the canvas. Svasra smiled with a small laugh, letting her hand drop to her side as her other finished off the line. "Ooh, that's a cool experience!" she said with a smile.

Dipping her finger into the paint again, Svasra traced another line, keeping her pace smooth and ensuring the paint was evenly spread. Between the two of them, it was done quite quickly. She looked to Jesslyn again for guidance, tilting her head slightly. "Next?"

Once they were done Jesslyn again slid her fingers on the table. Jesslyn thought over what they could do as they waited for it to dry a little more, "Well... It needs to dry a little more before we add anymore colors..." Jesslyn pondered what they could do.

Jesslyn had not a clue. "So, I have no idea what to do. Really my mind is blank... we could... no." Jesslyn shook her head and reached across the table to grab a random color. Not even reading for the color she dumped a little on the table and dunked two fingers in it.

A smirk covered her face as she assessed her plans. Jesslyn slowly brought her dripping finger around the canvas and frowned, "Hmm.. maybe they should go... here!" Jesslyn acted as if puzzled and when she exclaimed the last word she quickly turned and flicked her fingers at Svasra.

Jesslyn tried to stifle a laugh with the back of her hand but failed. Her laughed loudly behind her paint covered hand. The paint that hadn't flew at Svasra was now dripping onto Jesslyns floor and feet.

Before Svasra could get back at Jesslyn she practically scooped the paint into her fingers and made a sweeping motion back at Svasra to get the paint to spread. She was pretty sure she got some one the canvas and on the surrounding area but if was worth it. She was also sure Svasra had two different colored paints on her. Jesslyn laughter filled the house as she couldn't contain it, her cheeks hurt from smiling so hard and her tummy hurt from laughing so much.
