Kayliegh was getting desperate. Nuada hadn't walked around in a day, and he barely took any water anymore. His eyes were clouded and his breathes short and ragged, he was running a fever as well. Kayliegh didn't have the knowledge necessary to help him. She could bandage cuts and help some with that for animals but anything else was far beyond her skills. And Nuada was obviously in pain, he constantly let out whimpers that sent daggers of pain through Kayliegh's heart. She was frantic to find out what was wrong with him. And how to fix it. Mostly she wanted to fix it, she wanted to hug him and make him better. She would take all of his sickness upon herself if she could.

Which she was, although it wasn't lessening Nuada's pain. Kayliegh had worked herself so hard the past couple of day to help heal her friend that she had begun to get sick, not that she noticed. She was too concerned about her canine companion to care about her own state. She didn't notice her cough or the high fever she was starting to run. The weakness of her limbs was discarded as mere tiredness. Nothing mattered except for Nuada. Who was getting worse as she watched.

Kayliegh didn't want to leave him but if she was to find him help she had to. So she slipped on some clothes, forgetting her cloak she bolted out of the door, and pounded down the stairs. She hurriedly interrogated a sickly looking waitress as to where a healer could be found. She got the instructions and was gone, flying out the door. Her eyes were bright with fever and wild with her need to find help. Her blue and brown hair was a tangled mess and her skin was pink from fever. Her breathing shallow and quick as she pounded through the streets.

She was headed towards the Infirmary, where the sick were treated. Hopefully she could convince a healer to come back with her to help Nuada, she couldn't carry him there. And he needed to be healed, she couldn't bear to think of how she'd deal without him. She just couldn't. He was all she had, other than Treasa, and she loved him dearly. Losing him would tear her apart.

She pushed such thoughts out of her mind as she ran through the streets, shoving through people who walked on the side walk, more than a few of them pink from fevers or coughing and sneezing. Kayliegh didn't care about them as she made the reckless run through the city.

She stumbled a few times, her weak body ready to give out. But she pushed it, she would save Nuada, no matter what it did to her. She had to save him. She had to.

Winter 67th 512 AV
9th Bell (9am)

It had seemed that no matter how much Nai’a worked at healing people, the sickness was only coming back tenfold and starting to get worse. On the 40th of winter Maria gathered the citizens at the Laviku Monument. She announced that disease has started to spread, becoming a fatal epidemic in the city. People arriving at the infirmary were on the brink of death from the disease. Some were just now getting the common cold. She could help those just beginning to get the less with the sickness with the mark of Rak’Keli and the medicine to support their weakened immune system. She felt almost helpless with the disease though, she prayed every night to Rak’Keli to bless her with a second mark to provide her with the strength to help the residents of Zeltiva, to give her the courage to keep fighting this battle. She had confidence in her healing ability and the will to heal, but some days she felt like she could do more for the citizens, there was just something that kept blocking her from doing so.

Nai’a hefted the books up in her arms as she walked through the doors of the infirmary. She stopped by the Wright Memorial Library and checked out some books about Herbalism and Medicine to study on her breaks from her shift at the infirmary. She was gaining more and more knowledge of those trades daily, working with Mistress Claira. She was a wonderful mentor, stern yet filled with kindness, and exerting the same will and need to heal the citizens of Zeltiva. Nai’a felt closer to the woman every day that passed they worked together; it seemed they had formed a small bond of friendship between them, and Nai’a was thankful to call her a friend, as well as a mentor.

Nai’a made her way to the desk to say hello to Mistress Claira, to get the list of her duties for that day. But before she could even say a word to her the doors to the infirmary opened and she saw Mistress Claira’s eyes go wide at the person walking through them. Nai’a turned around in curiousity at what Mistress Claira was seeing, and her face held the same wide eyed glare.

The woman’s blue and brown hair was a tangled mess, sticking up all over her head, and matted from not brushing it for what seemed like days. Nai’a could see the slight flush of the woman’s skin and the glassy stare of her eyes, indicating a fever. She was wheezing, her chest rattling, and she was barely clothed for such arctic climates. Nai’a laid her books on the desk, rushing over to the woman, grabbing her hand softly.

“You poor dear, you need to be healed quickly. Let’s get you to a room and get you to feeling better.” Nai’a pulled on the woman’s hand to lead her to a room, but was meet with resistance, the woman was not budging, she was breathing heavily as if she was trying to catch her breath.

Nai’a looked back at the woman and frowned, wondering why she was not moving her feet. Wondering why she did not want to hurry to a room to get to feeling better again. She waited for the woman to catch her breath so she could speak, examining the wide eyed stare of the woman, seeing the urgent need inside the depths of her eyes. Maybe there was something of an emergency that the woman needed to tell them first, Nai’a wasn’t sure but she waited patiently to find out why the woman’s feet were glued to the floor, the patience of a healer was something Nai’a learned long ago. To not rush the healing, to be patient with the patient, to radiate a calm, soft, and confident exterior.

Kayliegh had burst into the infirmary, with no preamble. Something she would've been ashamed of had she been of sound mind. But she wasn't, she was sick and frantic. A woman, a very pretty woman with bright pink hair, hurried over to her. She tried to get her to come with her. Couldn't this woman understand that it wasn't her who needed help? But it was obvious by her demeanor that she was a healer of some sort, seeing as she was trying to get her to a room to help her.

Kayliegh found she couldn't quite speak yet, her vocal cords weren't working correctly. This should've worried her but it didn't, her plight didn't matter right now. She was sure this woman would be able to help her after Nuada.

So Kayliegh dug in her heels and refused to be moved, and muscles used in dance and weaponry stood up to those of a healer. Especially now, when it was so important. Time mattered right now.

Kayliegh tugged on the woman's hand, reversing the grip. Now it was her trying to get the woman to come with her.

"Come with me, it's important. I need your help, he's going to die!" fever addled and panicked as she already was her mind didn't register that she was talking in her native language, not common. Something the woman would have no understanding of what so ever. But that was what came natural to her.

It took a few moments but Kayliegh eventually realized her mistake and switched to a rough common, her mind not able tot think of the translations she needed to get her point across.

"He's going to die! Help, please." that was all she was able to say and it was hard to understand as it was with her heavy accent brought on by her state and the way her words flew from her mouth. She tugged again, hoping the woman at least understood her urgency. If they didn't hurry Nuada would die.She couldn't let him die. She wouldn't. She would pull this woman bodily to the apartment if she needed to . Or at least she'd try.

The woman’s grip on Nai’a’s arm was firm and urgent, pulling her small body towards the exit, as the woman’s rushed words exploded from her mouth. Nai’a could not understand the language the other woman spoke; it had a rough tone yet musical at the same time, coming out in a panicked rush. Nai’a’s small frown was the only break in her calm exterior; as she did not comprehend what the woman wanted her to do.

Nai’a attempted to read her body language, as the fevered woman’s grip remained on her arm. She stayed silent for a few moments, her breathing escalating from the panic that was obvious in her eyes and movements, and then she spoke in common tongue, a language Nai’a understood. The woman’s accented words were rough, hard to understand. Nai’a stood there for a few moments trying to decipher what it was she said. Finally the words sunk in, someone was dying, and someone the woman cared more for then her own well-being.

Nai’a nodded and spoke in her calm and soothing voice once again, ”It is okay. I will help you. Calm down or you will be of no use to help me find him.” Nai’a smiled at the woman and then turned to Mistress Claira, ”Mistress Claira, it seems I have a house call that is rather urgent. I will return as soon as I can.” The elder woman nodded her approval, waving her hands, gesturing for Nai’a to hurry along and heal whoever it was, Nai'a grabbed her bag that held some healing instruments. Nai’a nodded and looked back at the woman, speaking once more in her calm healer’s voice, ”Take me to him.” The simple words were understood and the woman drug Nai’a out in a rush, running down the street, the buildings and people passing in a blur as she came to the apartment the woman was residing in.

They rushed in and Nai’a looked around, calm and confident. Seeing no other human in the apartment, Nai’a turned to the fevered woman, wondering if the fever had caused slight insanity.

”Where is the person that is dying that you spoke of?” Nai’a asked in a soft voice, her eyes searching once more for another body, upon not finding another one her eyes returned to the woman, as she awaited her reply.

Kayliegh nodded at the woman's words, they broke through some of the fever induced fog in her brain. She was relieved, the woman was going to help her. She was going to heal Nuada, he'd be better. But she felt her impatience resurface, an odd thing for her, as the woman paused to inform the head nurse of where she was going. There was no time for that! They had to go now!

Kay nodded when the woman told her to take her to Nuada. Her grip on Nai'a's arm tightened and she dragged her bodily out of the infirmary, she knew she was making a reckless run through the streets and it was depleting her bodies necessary stores of energy but that just didn't matter to her. Finally, after what seemed to be bells of time, they reached her apartment. Kayliegh burst into the room, the pink haired woman behind her. The room smelled of sweat and sickness, something Kay picked up on now that she had gotten fresh air.

Nuada was unconscious and did not make any noise when they came in, something that worried Kayliegh. Unconscious was bad. Even if he had been sleeping he would've woken to growl at the new person in the room. It's what he had been trained for. This meant he was in a deep sleep.

Kayliegh released the woman and collapsed next to Nuada. With gentle hands she lifted his head into her lap and murmured words in her native language to him. The way her language sounded made it seem like she was singing him a lullaby.

Kayliegh's head shot up, anger dancing in her eyes. Could this woman not see that Nuada was the one dying? He was the one she had been brought here to help!
"Nuada! Nuada needs your help!" she informed her, her voice rough and angry. She motioned towards the unconscious canine.

As Nai’a glanced around the room she noticed that it smelled slightly like the Infirmary dead. Sickness. She was confused as to who she was supposed to be healing, until the woman rushed over to a dog, his head in her lap, and her words coming out in a melody lulling way. The woman’s head shot up, anger dancing in her eyes and on her face, as she told Nai’a that it was her dog that needed the healing. Nai’a just nodded, keeping clam in the face of her anger.

”I thought you meant a human, not a companion. My apologies.” Nai’a said as she walked over to the rather large dog and stroked the fur softly. She had never tried healing an animal before, but there was a first time for everything. The skin underneath the fur of the animal was heated, more so than any animals skin should be. Nai’a lifted his eyelids, inspecting the dilation of his pupils. From this she suspected he was in the world of the fever, not lost yet though. His breathing was slightly labored, so Nai’a laid her head down near his chest, listening to the slight rattle inside, indicating that the cold was beginning to progress. She hoped that it was not progressed so far that she would not be able to heal him.

Nai’a gave the woman a small smile, and placed her hands over the animal’s chest. A soothing blue light radiated from her palms, the magic from her mark of Rak’Keli flowing through the dog, healing what it could. Once she was done, she placed her hands deep into his fur, noting that the skin was not as hot as it was. She laid her head on the dog again, listening to him breath. His breathing was no longer labored now, the rattle basically gone. He would be okay now, with the proper medicine.

Nai’a looked over at the woman, ”He will be okay now. You need to get him some medicine to build his immunities back up, and make sure that you give him the proper dosage daily, and do not ever miss a day, or he could get sick again.” Nai’a inhaled a deep breath, planting a pleasant smile on her face. ”Now it is your turn, you need to be healed to. You will not be of any use to your companion sick.” Nai’a waited for the woman to respond, giving her the okay to heal her.

Kayliegh calmed down when the woman apologized to her for making the mistake, which if Kay had been in her right mind she would've been able to understand. But as it was her high fever was making her mind more and more cloudy by the minute. It was like fighting her way through molasses, and she was losing.

Kayliegh noticed the gentle way the healer touched Nuada and it made her smile slightly, she liked people who liked animals and treated them kindly. Kay watched the woman with as much intensity as her tired body could muster. She saw the blue light radiating from her hands. What was that from? She tried to think of it, if she knew it. She had heard of something about healers, but her tired mind couldn't think of it and she let it go as her head was beginning to ache.

Kayliegh nodded at the woman as she told her what to do. Hopefully she'd tell her the medicine she'd need to purchase, or better yet she'd let Kay buy some from her.

Kayliegh sent a thankful prayer to Ivak for letting her find this woman. Kayliegh sighed, but it quickly turned into a bought of coughing. When she had finished she lay back against the wall, exhausted. She had wasted all her strength in her mad dash to find a healer and to get back in time and now she just wanted sleep. Blessed sleep. Her breathing was shallow though, little better than Nuada's had been.

She made a noise of assent to the woman, too tired to say anything. She could heal her, she could do whatever she wanted. But first Kay just wanted to go to sleep. Could she do it after? She hoped she could, but Kayliegh couldn't voice her question of her preference. She was finding it harder to open her eyes after every blink.

The woman did not really give her an okay to heal her, but she did emit a noisy that sounded like she was okay with it. For the woman had leaned up against the wall, her eyes squinted at her. It seemed the woman had found it hard to keep her eyes open, the fever making her slightly delirious and tired. It was a common thing, due to a common cold left untreated for a prolonged time. There wasn’t much Nai’a’s hands could do for the fever the woman was feeling, but she would do the best she could to make her more comfortable, she would let her hands do their work, do what they could for her.

Nai’a placed her hands on the woman, the same soothing and warm light coming from her palms. The warmth would enter the woman’s body, spreading quickly throughout, making her feel soothed and calm. The magic would find what it could to heal her; the rest would have to come from Nai’a’s novice knowledge of healing. Once the blue light receded and the woman seemed to be in a deep slumber, Nai’a inhaled a deep breath. She had some dried Yarrow in her bag, which was good for fevers. But she needed to make it into a tea. She wondered if the woman had a pot nearby she could use. Nai’a grabbed her limp wrist, feeling the pulse that was rapidly beating there. Her skin was hot to the touch. She needed something to bring the fever down a couple of degrees, and Yarrow would do the trick. The Kelvic did not want to pilfer through the woman’s house, so instead she decided to run back up to the infirmary and make the tea.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Nai’a made it to the infirmary quicker then she thought she would, it took her 10 chimes to run through the snow covered streets. Her breath was ragged, and she had the thought in her mind that she needed to work out more. She waved to Mistress Claira and set out to where the medicine was made. She grabbed a pot, filling it with about 5 ounces of water, then she placed the dried Yarrow in the pot, putting it over high heat to leech out it’s ingredients into the water. Once it was boiling she removed it from the heat, straining what she could of the dried herbs from the pot. She did not have time to find a bottle or decanter to put it in, she had to hurry back to her patients. She grabbed a piece of cloth from the table, intending to return it when she was done with it, and rushed out of the Infirmary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It took Nai’a longer to come back to the woman, longer then she had liked anyways. But she made it back, luckily finding her way to the woman’s living quarters. The woman and the dog were still asleep due to the fever. She placed the small pot on a table, it was now cooled. She grabbed a wooden cup of the woman’s and poured a small amount in it. Then she dipped the cloth in the Yarrow water and went over to the woman. She wiped the woman’s forehead and face with the liquid. Then went back to get more, rubbing down her heated skin with it. Yarrow helped open up the pores, helping the patient’s fever decrease at the least a degree or two. Enough to make it easier to deal with anyways. Once she was done rubbing down her pulse points with the water, she retrieved the cup, and tilted the woman’s head back. She poured the foul, acrid, liquid down her throat. Then she went to work on the dog.

Since the dog had fur it was a lot harder to get to the skin, so she did the only thing she could do. She poured a little of the liquid into a cup, then took the pot over to the dog and poured it all over the dog’s fur, rubbing the liquid in so it would get to the skin underneath his thick winter coat. It was going to be rather difficult to make the animal drink the liquid, but she would attempt it and hope her hand did not get bitten off. Nai’a lifted the heavy dog’s head up, till his nose was pointed at the ceiling. She propped his head against her body, needing both her hands to get the medicine down his gullet. Nai’a inhaled a deep breath and went used her left hand to make his dog lips open at his inner cheek. From there she poured to liquid slowly, letting it make its way down his throat. Once she was done she stepped away, brushing the dog fur off her clothes, and wondering what else she could do. She wasn’t sure just yet, though, she needed to wait and see if the woman would wake up and come to her senses, enough to at least tell her how she felt so she could go retrieve the proper medicine for her.

So Nai’a sit down on a chair and waited for a few chimes, waiting for the woman to awaken from her fever induced slumber.

OOCAw, sorry to hear that. That is slightly weird that you were sick IC and OC o.o. Anywho, I wasn't sure if where you lived had a pot to cook with or not, sooooo yeah. haha. :)

Fevers distorted things in your mind, like time. Time was something Kay began to lose track of as her back rested against the wall. One moment the healer was a few steps away from her and then the next, as her eye lids rose, she had her hands on her. The heat from them was soothing to Kayliegh, someone who had loved the feeling of warmth. The feeling of warmth that was not fever created calmed her, it helped lull her into a complacent sleep.

Kayliegh was plagued by odd dreams as the woman left her to her sleep. Dreams she couldn't make sense of and when she woke up she would not be able to recall. She'd only remember the feelings and a few colors they invoked, nothing else. None of the confusing scenes or horrifying monsters her mind created, nor the twisted things her subconscious forced into her dreams would be remembered.

But as she slept she saw these things and as such her sleep was fitful. Her body jerked as she lay there, as if flinching back from invisible claws and fangs. Her mouth let out little moans and whimpers of fear. When the woman returned and began to rub the tincture on her skin it roused Kayliegh from the dreams, she was still too tired to open her eyes but at least she was not stuck in the nightmares she couldn't remember.

The rim of a cup touched her lips and Kayliegh parted them, knowing the healer would be giving her medicine. She almost spat the foul tasting concoction back at the woman, it tasted disgusting going into her mouth and down her throat. She couldn't resist a few coughs after the stuff had been swallowed. She wished the woman had added some honey or other herb of some sort for flavor.

The drink made her realize something though, she was thirsty. With her body fever her body had burned off a lot of the water in it, although she didn't know that, and had dehydrated her. Kayliegh just knew she was thirsty something terrible. And she felt cold. She knew she had to have a fever but she was so cold. Her body shivered.
"Water." She had to try a few times to get her mouth to work. She was tired, shaking, and her mouth was dry. She shivered again as she looked to the woman to help her, Kayliegh didn't know how to fix this. How to help herself and her friend and it killed her a little inside to be so helpless, so defenseless. This was not a foe she could just fight with her daggers or darts. This was an invisible, silent foe. One she didn't know how to defend against or how to attack. But this woman did.

oocTry Willow bark tea too next time, willow bark tends to calm fevers down and is a pain killer.

Nai’a knew the medicine wasn’t going to taste delightful, but she had no time to make it taste good for her, she only had time to fix it and rush over. She looked the woman up and down, looking for signs, hoping it would hurry up and ease her pain. The girl needed sleep, and plenty of it. It looked like her companion was already sleeping, which was good, the rest would help the fever break and the dog would wake up feeling better then when he went to sleep.

The girl murmured water, spurring Nai’a into action once again. The healer retrieved a tall glass of water for the girl, and placed it up to her llips, ”Small sips, do not gulp it down. Take small sips.” Nai’a spoke to the girl in a soothing voice, as she held the glass to her lips, letting her drink her fill. When she was done, Nai’a stepped back.

”Let’s get you to bed, you two need to rest. During your sleep the fever should break, and you will feel better in the morning, not one-hundred percent, but better then you did today.” Nai’a kept the calm tone to her voice, ”I will stay by your side for most of the night, so do not worry. I will be here.” Nai’a brushed the woman’s hair out of her face, and gave her a bright smile. The color in her cheeks were beginning to fade ever so slightly, but the fever was still there. It would take about half a bell for that tea to take effect, and hopefully by then the girl would be in a deep slumber.
