The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

Isolated in the east of the Sea of Grass is the Moontrail Well, a pre-Valterrian well still in use today. The well is hand dug, lined with shale rock, and is relatively shallow at around 20 feet. Most of the stones are post-Valterrian, replaced for the stability of the ancient well. The groundwater that feeds the Sea of Grass is easily accessible via the well in the lush spring and summer seasons, but dries up in fall and winter.

The windlass is wooden, and rots away every few years or so, usually replaced by some passerby needing to use the well themselves. Small trees and shrubbery have grown around the well area, encouraged to grow by Drykas and other travelers for a place to rest in the shade after gathering water. The area immediately surrounding the well is bare dirt and gravel, tramped down by centuries of travelers and striders.

Interestingly, or perhaps on purpose, the original struts for the windlass mark the path of the moon in the early spring, when the well revives. When standing immediately next to the well, centered between the struts, the path the moon takes during the spring season always falls visually between the struts, finally passing out on the first day of summer. The struts that stand now are modern stone, but still enclose Leth’s springtime movements.

In current times, the well is an important meeting place, for both travelers and Drykas, as all living things need water. It is one of the few landmarks in the expansive Sea of Grass and people continue to meet there into the autumn and winter seasons, after the well has dried up. It is said Leth himself passes by this well for a drink in the springtime, and many of his devotees consider the place an informal shrine.
