Appearance: As others of her kind, Shikoba has dotted finger tips allowing her to sense motion, webbed feet enabling her to walk on sand with ease, as well as hair and eyes, black as night. Her hair is as soft as feathers, which flows in long, windblown strands, waving gently down to the small of her back. It is often worn in a loose braid with a black feather woven in. Shikoba has a slim, lean form, subtly toned with muscle from constant traveling and exercise. Just between her shoulder blades, she has black tattoos in the shape of a petiwa paw print, a crow's feather on the left, as well as a raven's on the right- a feather on each side of the paw. Standing around 5'9, she is about 150lbs in weight, another common trait among the Chakatwe, being heavier than they look. Her long eyelashes seem to give her black eyes an unending depth, her expressions are often hidden behind warm smiles. She stopped painting over her eyes, for it reminds her too much of her long gone home.
Character History Shikoba was an open child, friendly, curious, and at times a trickster, often getting into trouble for her schemes, though all in great fun. As she grew older, she began to learn the stories of her kind, as her mother before her, for Shikoba had a long memory, and a rhythmic and musical voice. Slowly, as years passed, she practiced her line's craft, mouthing the words as she went through her days. After successfully returning from her searching, her tribe moved on as they always did, in search of another Oasis. One day, a stranger stumbled upon she and her friends as they chased after goats, appearing to be dangerously dehydrated. Feeling pity for this stranger, she and her friends brought the stranger to the camp, laying him down in her family's tent. Shikoba was fascinated by this stranger, for it was not often one met a foreigner, and so she watched over him, giving him water while humming quiet, wordless tunes. The next day, the stranger asked her about her people, about their history and culture. In the beginning, she refused, remembering the warnings from her elders about divulging the sacred stories, and the punishments that would follow. Still, he begged, and so relenting, she told him one of the entertaining ones instead. However, as the days went by, he began to thirst for more knowledge, and she had come to befriend him. That was when her resolve slipped, and she quietly told him one of the sacred tales. Little did she know that she had been overheard by one of the women of her tribe, who proceeded to report her to the elders. The following day, she was given her punishment, marooned by her tribe. The sands she had once thought of as home, had became a painful reminder of what she had lost. After leaving the desert, she resorts to thievery, wit, and deception, using what had seemed to be games as a child, as a means of survival. She wanders from city to city, never quite able to call any place 'home'.
Taking a chance on her Guardian's advice, Shikoba managed to find work on a merchant's sloop, and travelled to Nyka, leaving Ahnatep during late Summer, and arrived in early Winter. After having found that this new environment was too foreign to her with all of it's bewildering customs, she decided to move on, boarding a random ship from the city. By consequence, this led her to arrive in Sunberth by early Fall.
Character Concept Agile, witty, cunning, and always thinking, Shikoba hides passed sorrows under masks of calm or smiles, covering her pain as an animal hides its weaknesses. She can be surprisingly naive, and depending on the situation, easily embarrassed. At times perceived as cold, or uncaring, she pretends to be unaffected by others' perception of her. However, she has begun to take steps towards not being so distrustful, and though still cautious, will unfurl herself to reveal her warm, kind, and playful personality. Often curious, she is a quick learner, but can become slightly annoyed when she can't figure something out for herself, or if she can't understand someone. Though she enjoys listening and asking questions, she dislikes being questioned about personal matters, though she will not always display her discomfort. Shikoba regards her Guardian as an older sibling or cousin and as such, they quarrel at times, strengthening her stubbornness, for better or for worse. With him, she is unguarded, giving him her deepest trust.
