Second day of training

Postby Perc on April 3rd, 2013, 11:27 am

9th day of spring

Perc was still sore from yesterday as he was making his way towards the training field. Not going towards the armoury to suit up. His Patron had told him to meet him directly at the training area without suiting up today, since it wouldn't be needed today. That had been a slight bit of relief for him, he didn't think he could stand another day of being drilled into the ground while wearing that heavy and hot suit.

Ser ramones was already waiting when Perc arrived at the training area, greeting him with a wide smile. “So you managed to get out of bed after the hell I put you through yesterday. It seems I'm losing my edge then.” ramones said with a laugh, motioning perc to follow him.

That laugh, even though it wasn't particularly malicious sound, let a cold shiver run down his spine. He looked at his patron for a few moments with wide eyes and a slack jaw, completely unable to move as his fantasy went wild about what his patron could dump on him as extra work.
'Metal weights at the feet, running behind him with a burning poker? No, he wouldn't do anything that would leave lasting harm, these are the knights not the bastards who rule over ravok.'

Perc quickly got out of his stupor and followed his patron. Who stopped at an out of the way part of the training area.

“Yesterday I made you do some exercises to get you a bit used to wearing heavy plate armor. Today we are going to take a break from that and work purely on exercising that big body of yours and teach you how to actually use those big muscles of yours in a fight. No good to be strong if you can't throw a punch worth calling it that. Now first of, you are going to run four laps. A lap is from here, to there and back,” He pointed towards a pole perc guessed was around hundred yards away from here. “Then you will do fifty push-ups in sets of ten half a chime of rest in-between every single one. Then you will take a chime of rest and do the same amount of sit ups with the same amount of rest in between every single set. Then you get 4 chimes of rest. You'll repeat that entire thing till I say you can stop.” He said with a smile on his face. Though his tone didn't tolerate any arguments.

Perc wasn't about to argue with his patron anyway and just got ready to do what he was told.
'Just get yourself through this and he'll teach you something more interesting.' He thought to himself to steel his resolve. Without further prompting he broke out in a run. Pacing himself as he ran along the lap that his patron had told him to follow. No sense in tiring himself out early.

“Get your arse moving faster perc!” His patron's voice thundered. “I know you can go faster then that!”

Perc picked up the pace at the barking tone of his patron. Gritting his teeth as his still battered body protested against the strain it was putting on him. By the time he finished a single lap his legs were already developing a slight burn, which only was getting worse and worse with every single lap he finished.
When the laps where finished he dropped down in front of his watching patron and started with his first set of pushups.

“I want your chest to touch the ground when you do a push-up Perc, and keep those legs straight.” His patron simply stated his corrections. “Start over.”
Perc didn't speak up and just corrected what his patron wanted him to correct. He simply concentrated on the counting of his patron to try and ignore the burning feeling in his limbs.

After he managed to complete the push-ups. Perc was already cursing himself for thinking it would be an easier day of training without the heavy armour. His patron had an entire day to train him with, and he didn't doubt he wouldn't stop until he was unable to think straight from exhaustion.
He pushed himself in a sitting position, grateful for the chime of rest he was getting now. Rubbing his legs to see if he couldn't get rid of the burning feeling in them.

“Stop that perc, your moving around just makes yourself more tired, sit still and take deep breaths when you are resting.” His patron advised. “Half the trick of pushing through your exhaustion is being able to catch your breath. On the other hand, your break is over, so lets get those sit ups done.”

Perc gave his patron an stunned look, that didn't even feel close to a full chime. But after he saw the expression on his patrons face he kept his comment to himself and just begun with the sit ups. Once more keeping his attention on the counting of his patron.

The rest of those laps were more gruelling as time went on, his patron just silently watched as he suffered through every single one of them. Eventually though perc just couldn't go on and in the middle of one of the pushups he just dropped the floor, to tired to even give a comment ot his patron about it.

“I think this is about enough, you are getting a bell of rest before we start on our next exercise. Do your best to rest up by then.” His patron said in a kind tone as he set down a filled canteen next to the down perc.

About a bell later perc was capable of moving again and was silently sipping the canteen of water. Both dreading and looking forward for what came next. Dreading because he would be driven in the ground again, but really he was learning how to fight for the freedom and safety of thousands of people. So what wasn't to look forward to?

“Perc, get on your feet, your brake is over for now.” His patron reminded him. “Follow me.”

Perc scrambled back on his feet. Taking one last big swig of the canteen before handing it back and following his patron. “So what are we going to do now?”

“Like I said at the start, just having a lot of brawn like you do doesn't make you any better in a fight, sure your punches hurt more and you don't get tired as fast. But that doesn't matter much if you can't manage to land a punch. So that's what I'm going to try and beat into your skull for the rest of the day.” he said in a light tone.

Perc sagged as he heard that response. This was going to end up with him covered in bruises just like when he fought kreig wasn't it?
They came to halt on a small square area, barely five strides across, his patron turned around with a big smile on his face and cracked his knuckles. “Well then perc, why don't you come at me so I can see what I'm starting with?” he beaconed the squire.

Perc didn't wait any longer after he had gotten the invitation to attack, ignoring the ache in his muscles he reared back his fist and threw a wide punch at his patron's stomach with everything he could gather together.
His patron easily sidestepped the punch and grabbed his arm before he could pull it back. With his free arm he punched perc in the stomach. Perc doubled over in pain from the force of the blow and tried to stagger backwards, but was held firmly in place by the firm grip of his patron. Before perc managed to get his wits back his patron landed another punch in his gut.

Perc gritted his teeth and gave a weak punch aimed at his patron's gut. The weak punch hit the man were he was aiming at, but there wasn't enough force behind it to really hurt him to let him go. Before perc could try to do anything else he felt a hit at his legs knocking him off balance and almost directly later his opponents fist hit him right between the eyes, knocking him flat on the floor.

“Well, that wasn't as bad as I expected. At least you tried to fight back a little.” He offered his hand towards the downed perc to help him back up, who gratefully accepted the offer.
“Look your biggest problems are that you don't know what to do when somebody is wailing on you. Which leaves you open for whatever your opponent has in store for you. Your other problem is that while you got a powerful punch, you don't really know how to throw and aim it right.”

He stepped a bit back. “Now we are going to do this again. Give me a compact hit, don't do that big motion, it just tips of everybody where you are going to hit and that you are going to hit. Fighting is already enough work without tipping them off what you are going to do. Also If you miss pull back your fist immediately, otherwise you are just going to get grabbed and kicked around. Now lets go.”

Perc carefully paid attention to the man, not only to his words, but also to how he was standing, hoping he could pick up something from that as well. It didn't seem like it, his patron was simply standing there waiting for him to make a move.
After a few seconds Perc had enough and once again made his move. He tried to keep his patrons advice in his mind. But honestly bad habits were hard to break, once more his patron managed to grab his arm and even though this time he tried to put up a better defence. It was only a matter of time before once more he hit the ground.

“Look out for the legs as well as the arms perc, a kick hurts just as bad as a punch, if not more.” He jokingly informed his squire as he once again helped him back on his feet.

“Now lets do this again.” Both perc and his patron got back in position and went at it again.

That was how it continued for bells, perc would attack, get his ass knocked to the flour, given a few pieces of advice and then it would start all over again. With occasionally a resting period for perc in between before they went at it again.

As syna was slowly dipping beneath the horizon his patron finally let them stop. “Perc, we are done for today, be here at the same time tomorrow, once again without armor. Rest up for that.”

Perc could only give a tired nod in response as he forced his battered and bruised body to respond to his willa nd lumber itself towards the squire dormitories. Now he just wanted to sleep.
