This is Falyndar at its finest. Danger lurks everywhere - in the ground, in the trees, in the bush. Only the strongest survive...

Located within the depths of Falyndar is a deceptively calm area. It's location is said to change from generation to generation, but truly the Lightning Sand Lake never really moves, it is just that its home is never properly mapped.
The dangers of the Lightning Lake are far from apparent. Springing with healthy under growth and brimming with insect and avian life, it seems like a lively sanctuary amidst the dangers of the Jungle Wilds. Upon further inspection, however, a single misplaced step and you will be swallowed by the murky sands that have consumed ground dwellers of all kinds. It is named after lightning because the entity in question that gets taken down by the pits that lay in number around the marshy surface is not even able to cry out before they are swallowed in their entirety.
In truth, Lightning Sand Lake was once a large body of water. During a massive mud slide aound 430 AV, a slow process of earth and foreign matter filling the pool of liquid and consuming water space began. Now with each Summer flooding, though great rains are brought to the Lake, once they have passed more earth is left within the murky depths than water, creating a strange metamorphosis for the lake which imparts dire circumstances upon the damp earth which can so effectively suck in an unwary traveler.
No one has escaped the sands alive unprepared, at least not to knowledge, but there are some daring scavengers, Dhani and Myrian alike that intentionally traverse the muck and slime in order to retrieve the centuries of artifacts that have been lost in the pits. Doing so requires a party of individuals with brawn and brains in equal measure, as well as the proper equipment, but it is a potentially lucrative prospect if one is willing to face the equally dangerous hazards of excavation.
During the Summer flooding of the wilds is the safest time to traverse the Lake, for swimming above the pits allows increased safety, and the orchards of rich fruits that feed on the nutrient rich soil in a jungle of thin top soil can be lucrative to gatherers.
With the exception of exploration during the Summer season, any missions or quests involving the Lightning Sand Lake require moderator approval and or moderation. |
