34th Day Of Spring, 513 AV Mirahil Pass looked rather threatening in the gloom of the grey clouds overhead. The cover gave an almost uniform darkness across the landscape from the pass to as far as Erekez could see. The breeze was gentle and the air was fresh. For now, at least. It looked as though it might rain later on during the day, hopefully it wouldn't. He'd held off arranging other things so he could take the day to explore the Wildlands with Nai'a. Erekez wasn't sure if he'd be able to do it again, neither did he know if Nai'a would be able to. When she had told him of her pregnancy, she was early enough in to be able to hide the signs of it. Erekez didn't claim to be an expert on such things, but by this point, it was probably safe to assume that Nai'a had been pregnant for at least a season. Pregnancy lasted about three. It was still early, but that didn't mean it was going to be any easier dealing with it. You'd get yourself into a lot of trouble thinking otherwise. Erekez was apprehensive about taking Nai'a into the Wildlands in her state, but they had agreed to do so sometime, and he didn't know how much longer he was going to be around. Maybe another season, maybe another year. Regardless of how long Erekez would remain in Zeltiva, Nai'a had agreed to go out today. She was old enough to know what she was capable of doing, and he had told her he believed she was responsible enough for it. Then again, bondmates get special privileges. That, and don't forget she thrashed you whilst she was pregnant. She's a good fighter as well. Yes, thanks for that reminder. Zeltiva could be seen from the Pass, and what a grand sight it was. The old buildings from the new, the University, the Denvil and Old Quarters and Mathews Bay. All of it in contrast with itself, combined with the clouds resulted in an imposing picture. This city had done well for itself after the Valterrian. Behind Erekez, the Wildlands awaited. He was as sure of danger as he was sure that Leth would rise later. They needed to be careful. With luck, they wouldn't stay long enough in any one place to be caught by any. If trouble started, they'd need to run, plain and simple. It was never a case of one-on-one in the Wildlands. Bandits and slavers cared very little for fairness, choosing to swarm passers-by. Anything that would take you on by itself would more than likely rip you in half with one swipe. Good thing there's two of you then. Two pairs are better than one. Eyes, ears, hands, all that stuff. Moonraker fidgeted beneath him, growing impatient of the wait. It was hard to keep the gilding to stay still for long, unless she was eating. Moon had lost her sparkle underneath the clouds, settling on a mild luminescent glow, bathing in the reduced light. Erekez pulled on the reigns, trying to get her to calm down. She took it as permission for a game of tug-of-war, pulling at the headpiece as he continued to pull at the reigns. Moon was a nuisance and she knew it. Even more, she enjoyed it. "Five gold mizas says you start behaving when Nai'a shows up again." |
