Time Stamp: 27th of Spring, 513AV, Morning Location: The Hydroponic Garden Who: Iosha Walking into the hydroponic garden, Iosha made her way to the eastern part of the fields. She knew it was time for planting because Syna was starting to stay up longer in the sky with each passing day. Already the other Avora and Dek were busy planting seeds in the rich dirt in the western fields. Iosha learned the western fields were most used for planting patatos, onions, and garlic. Iosha was assigned to plant pumkins and squash in the eastern fields, so the konti walked over to were the small group of Avora and Dek were gathered to start their morning routine. Iosha set her quiver, bow, and long sword on the ground. The reimancer decided to leave her double sided dagger on her side just in case. She wasn't normally paranoid, but Wind Reach had a bad tendency of trying to kill her, so she wasn't taking any chances today. When the lead Avora gardener walked over to the group, he looked at the Avora and cleared his throat, “Well, we have a busy day ahead of us my faithful gardeners!” Iosha knew the foreman loved his job because he always seemed way to eager to do his job, “We will be dividing the field into four sections. The first section will be cucumbers, the second will be squash, and the third pumpkins.” Iosha cringed slightly because the third section was closer to the fertilizer pools, so the smell in her quarter will be quite pungent. Iosha tied back her hair, and she looked up at the foreman and listened to his orders, “The fourth section will be peppers. I know you all must be excited for planting season, and Iosha, you are in for a treat since it will be your first harvest!” The konti gave the foreman a small smile and said with a hint of amusement, “It is taking a lot out of me just to hold back the excitement.” Iosha looked at the other Avora when some of them started to snicker, and she heard the foreman say, “That is the spirit, Iosha! Now I want you all to say a soft prayer to Bala to bless our crops.” Iosha bowed her head slight and closed her eyes as she said a quiet prayer to Bala in Kontinese. When the meeting was over, the foreman walked over to Iosha and said quietly, “After you plant you bag of seed, Iosha. I want you to spread the water with your reimancy in section three." Iosha nodded to her boss and immediately thought to herself, “Yay, I get water duty today again!” Iosha grabbed her bag of cucumber seeds and a shovel and made her way into the first section of the field. The konti could tell the field must had been fertilized days before because the ground smelled liked manure. The Avora looked at the Dek standing by her with a bucket of fertilizer and ladle in hand. Iosha started to dig a six inch hole with her shovel. When she nodded to the dek, and he ladled the manure into the hole. Iosha started to make a small mound of dirt over the hole. Iosha learned that vine plants like pumpkins, squash, and cucumbers need to grow in a mound because of their root system. The Konti dropped the shovel, picked up her bag of seeds, and knelt down next to the mound. Iosha started to place the four seeds into the pile of dirt. When the seeds were in the dirt, she lightly cover the exposed part of the seed with dirt. The Avora moved there six feet over to the left, and she repeated the same procedure about fifty times. The group finished planting the first selection in about two hours, and the foreman told them to move to the third section. When they were finished with the section, Iosha looked at the dek holding the almost empty manure bucket, and she said softly, “Why don't you fill up your bucket and take a ten minute break. It will take me that long to dig the hole.” Iosha grabbed the bag of pumpkin seeds and rested the shovel on her shoulder as she walked to her section of the field. When she made it to the edge, she walked twelve paces from the along the edge of the field than she pivoted towards the middle of the field and walked another twelve feet into the field. Iosha made sure, she was at least twelve feet away from the edges. Before she dropped the bag of seeds next to her and used the shovel to dig a twelve inch hole. Iosha leaned on the shovel and waited for the dek to run back with her fertilizer. When the Dek made it over to her, he quickly ladled the manure into the hole. When he was finished, Iosha started to fill the hole with dirt, but she kept going until the mound was eighteen inches high. The reimancer dug out a five inch hole into the top of the mound. When she was finished, she place five seeds into the hole and covered the hole with dirt. Iosha stood up and stretched her back. She looked over at her partner who was another twelve feet from her, and she walked left another twelve feet away from the first mound, and she started the process over again. |
