Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

5th of Summer, 513 AV

The contraption fit, at least. Rylan had carved a block of stone out of the southeast cliffs and cinched it to his back with some straps and fabric. Testing it, he jumped and twisted from side to side, trying to shake it off, and smiled when it held. He set off down the beach in the dawn light, taking it easy while he got used to the weight on his back.

It was his third day here, and he wanted to acquaint himself with the city. Going for an early morning run did double duty, letting him exercise and see the city before most of the crowds flooded the streets.

He set the weight at the end of the beach, and ran a few laps on the soft sand, staying closer to the surf, where the sand was harder, but far enough away that he didn't splash himself with the drops. After that, he performed some stretches, and ran four strides.

People were already moving about in the port, as they prepared for whatever might need to do during the day. Rylan passed several people of several species already at work, and received his share of strange glances and interested looks. The pull on his legs as he walked up the stairs felt good after weeks of walking. After reaching the top and stretching a little quickly, he went down the street at a brisk jog.

A Morning Run [Daekos]

Postby Daekos Volundur on June 16th, 2013, 2:14 pm

It was about to be an excellent morning. Daekos could feel it in the cool morning air and in the cries of the crepuscular seabirds as they greeted Syna, who was taking her place in the eternal dance of the heavens. Perhaps it was the most amusing dream Daekos had ever had in a long time that was the main reason for this strange outburst of optimism, but it didn't matter to Daekos.

A short run before breakfast should do the trick.

Leaving Atri's place at a brisk pace, having done his pre-run stretches in his room, Daekos moved off towards the sea, wanting to take in the rising of Syna. Perhaps it was a tad strange for one such as him, being an Isur, but Daekos still held some of the wonder he had felt when he had seen and felt the rays of the Sun for the very first time after leaving Sultros.

A strange sight soon greeted his eyes as he made his way around the Azurite Watchtower, having just crossed the bridge over the waterfall minutes ago. A strange figure was running with a large chunk of stone strapped to his back, attracting some attention from the early-risers. The Isur decided to move closer to observe the person - it wasn't as if he was moving too fast for him to catch up.

The sight that greeted his eyes was nearly enough to have Daekos flat on his back in an instant.

An Isur! Not just an Isur, one from my own clan! Sure, there were a few Isur in Riverfall I met, but there's not been one for years.

Daekos stopped gaping at his clanmate, who had a left arm coloured the exact same shade of black as his own was, and dashed off towards him.

A Morning Run [Daekos]

Postby Rylan Pitrius on June 20th, 2013, 2:02 am

Running was always a good way to slow down and think deeply for Rylan. Today, his hope was that he would have a chance to figure out where he was going from here.

When he was halfway across the street that ran towards the Azure Watchtower, however, he was startled by an unaccented voice shouting name of his clan. He fleetingly glanced at the source of the noise and saw an Isur with a black arm, a Pitrius member, running at full tilt towards him before being eclipsed by the edge of a building.

Fear and adrenaline flushed through Rylan and hitched his step, and he darted his eyes over the scene looking for an escape route. Rylan panicked when he saw that then he saw that the only feasible xit was halfway down the street. He half-tried to sprint before he realised that it would be an obstacle to escape through it unnoticed even discounting his unfamiliarity with the city and the 250 pound weight on his back.

Rylan would have to pretend that he had only just realized the presence of the other Isur, and make no big deal about it. He hoped that the other Isur hadn’t seen him glance up. Rylan heard the other Pitrius round the building street, and he turned to face him.

A Morning Run [Daekos]

Why the petch is he running away from me? He should be glad to see another Isur in Riverfall. Perhaps he hasn't heard me.

Daekos continued running towards the strange Isur - it appeared to be hard going for Rylan, what with the rock and all, so Daekos was confident that he would be able to catch up with Rylan before the other Isur could 'escape' from him. Even if he did so, Daekos had ways to find him - being in Riverfall for a decade gave Daekos the chance to make a few connections as his lessons had taught him Perhaps they were not with highly-placed people, but it was sufficient.

Rounding the corner, Daekos almost immediately spotted the Pitrius Isur. He walked up to him, grinning very broadly for the first time in ages - it being the first time he had looked on another Isur of the same clan since Spring, or perhaps even earlier.

"Clan brother! My name is Daekos of the Volundur family. How have you been? How is the clan doing?"
