Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

You've Got to Start Somewhere

Timestamp: Season of Summer, Day 4, 513 AV

Having recently just arrived in Riverfall, Recassi took most of the day to allow himself to become familiar with the city. Checking his map as he went, the ghost walked to various buildings, parks, and stopped for a while at the docks, allowing himself a few moments to process the many tasks he had to accomplish that were plaguing his thoughts. However, it all came down to one thing, which was finding his murderer. Or perhaps murderers? He still did not know how many, if multiple there were, but that would not stop Recassi from attempting to locate them. This one task though, brought down a multitude of other, albeit smaller, actions that must precede the inevitable retribution he would bring down upon his murderer. He then realized though, that even if there were multiple, he was not completely sure he would be able to handle one enemy, were it to come to a full fight. How would he dispose of his adversary at any point if he were not prepared at this point to fight simple beasts? Now knowing what the first thing he must do, Recassi picked out the destination he would do this thing. He pulled out his map to check for the most suitable of his options, rolled up the map, and set foot for The Monsterous Menagerie.

Once Recassi arrived at Menagerie, he needed to find out exactly which creature he would go about possessing, and how he would go about commanding it, without getting himself immediately thrown out of control. After looking around for a while, he found himself in a large domed room, with an abundance of birds flying close to visitors. Recassi relocated himself to the edges of the room, and observed the birds for a short time. He then picked out his target, and began to slowly move towards the bright yellow bird, very cautious to prevent himself from scaring the animal off, and attempted to walk into the bird. Unfortunately, as soon as the uninvited guest made contact with the skittish bird, if flew away quickly leaving the ghost with an unsuccessful first attempt to possess his target. When the thought of confronting his killer entered his mind, his determination was renewed. He again watched for birds close to the edge of the building. Making sure no one was watching him, he crept his way towards a new target, a small, bright green bird. As Recassi neared the bird, he became slower and slower in his movement until at last he was practically atop the animal. He then stepped into the bird, and instantaneously targeted something that would keep the birds conscious at bay.

Food. The first thing the apparition could think of to keep the bird calm, and focused. Recassi picked a small piece of bread that was a suitable distance from any visitors of the Menagerie, and began clumsily and slowly leaping towards the crumb. Jump after jump, he slowly moved the bird towards the goal, when suddenly another bird swooped in front of him and grabbed the crumb. Startling the green bird he was currently possessing, Recassi was thrown out of control, and the bird flew away frantically attempting to escape the ghost. As he sat, his mind flooded with angry things he wanted to yell at, but would not. And then it hit him. He was tired, very, very tired. The possession of a small creature, moving at such a simple pace, had rendered him sleepy, and out of energy. He stood, and began walking towards the groups of people that were around the large room, and laid down to rest a respectable distance away from the others.

Upon waking, Recassi realized it was turning into the early afternoon. He had slept for over two bells, and was eager to attempt his control prowess again. However he noticed there were far less visitors at this point, and the birds were beginning to settle around the edges of the building. It would be more difficult to approach an animal this time without alerting it or the others around it. He stood again, and ever so slowly worked his way towards a bird that seemed to be the furthest from its others. He must have taken twenty chimes to walk to the bird, but the patience paid off, as no other birds were alerted, and stepped into the new, pitch black bird. This time he found it easier to take control, though not by much. Progress was progress though! Recassi then began, slightly more eloquently than the last time, navigating the bird through the room, as he searched through the various small bits of scrap food left around by the visitors previously occupying the area. After successfully feeding the bird, he let go of the animal and again was struck by fatigue. It was only moments before he passed out in the middle of the building.

When the ghost awoke this time, it was to a voice. It was talking to him, and it was close. Recassi looked around and his vision was instantly greeted by an Akalak. The man was looking at him, and after a moment of processing, Recassi realized the man was telling him to leave. The ghost looked around quickly, and noticed it was almost dark, and he had rested far longer than he had intended to. Quickly apologizing, he stood one final time, and left the Monsterous Menagerie for the day.
