Spring 79, 490 AV
early afternoon
The morning was bright and clear and warm, the kind of day exactly perfect for being outside and enjoying the atmosphere of spring. Small wonder then, that Eleret took herself outdoors for today's studies, emerging into the gardens of the Opal Temple with a book in hand. Not a library book, forbidden as it was to remove them from the library, but a volume without obvious title on cover or spine, bound in the simple fashion typical of personal journals -- or in this case, an herbalism student's notebook.
Birds sang in haphazard chorus from the trees and bushes on the temple grounds, their twitters and chirps and warbles providing pleasant background noise. The crunch of loose gravel beneath her feet was no more obtrusive, being an accustomed sound. The Konti gave her attention more to the landscaping she walked past, whether tree-dappled shade or sunlit flowerbed, or the open expanses of green which stretched between. She had already perused much of the area immediately around the North Tower... which left the entire rest of the gardens open for today.
Undecided in the face of many options, Eleret decided to wander until something piqued her interest. The temple grounds were beautiful to look at, with many flowers now in the prime of their blooming season and others promising to emerge very soon. The Konti paused in her progress to admire the tall purple spires of a foxglove, gently leaning one forward to inhale its fragrance. This had the unintended consequence of letting several tiny black ants run over her fingers and get stuck there when she released the flower. There were really quite a lot of them scampering all over the plant. For lack of any better method, Eleret got rid of the ants by shaking her hand until they fell off; hopefully, they landed somewhere where they could readily get back to their business.
