[Bronze Woods] A hunting lesson. (Roderick)

Akora Waited on a tree branch keeping in the shade. Her light brown eyes rest on the small pile of Rye she left as bait for a deer. A snare hidden awaiting an animal just to be caught in it. Akora's left hand held onto her short bow, her right hand was ready holding onto an arrow ready to quickly nock it. Her breath was soft and her mind alert listening carefully for a single step.

The wind blew softly making it hard to hear, as the ruffling of the leaves that dangle from branches. She leaned on the tree to help her balance and the branch under her wasn't very wide. She started trusting her eyes to judge other then her ears, as she wouldn't be able to hear something easily surrounded by the noise of the leaves.

[Bronze Woods] A hunting lesson. (Roderick)

Postby Roderick on August 23rd, 2013, 8:18 pm

52nd of Summer, 513 AV
Roderick stepped lightly through between the trees, avoiding leaves, twigs and branches in order to remain silent. He'd been following the tracks of a deer for quite a while now, and he hoped to find it soon; the meat and hides would give him a good amount of coin, he knew. He held his bow in one hand, the other readied at the string, prepared to loose the arrow as soon as he came upon his quarry.

The trees in the wood were being viciously shaken by the wind, so that he could barely hear his own footsteps over the noise. The breeze was blowing toward him, carrying his scent off into the foliage behind him; anything that might be lurking ahead of him would have a hard time finding out he was there.

As he cleared a pair of trees he saw a small pile of rye lying on the ground, out in the open; a trap set by another hunter, he imagined. A clever idea - one he'd have to use in the future, given the pains involved with tracking.
He'd brought a few snares with him, but had yet to put them to use.

[Bronze Woods] A hunting lesson. (Roderick)

Postby Akora Makunari on August 24th, 2013, 4:51 am

Akora watches and notices Roderick walking the way of her snare, unknowing if he may take it. She decided to give him a warning not taking her chances of loosing a snare. Her fingers hit the arrows nock into place, her fingers drawing back on the string. Akora brings up her bow looking down the shaft of the arrow trying to judge his distance from her.

Akoras fingers slowly slide off the string until it sends the arrow flying. The arrow speeds hitting a few feet from Rodrick, sticking from the ground at a diagonal curve. Her right hand goes into her bag slowly pulling out an arrow by the nock watching Roderick closely waiting for a reaction as she was still hidden in the tree.

[Bronze Woods] A hunting lesson. (Roderick)

Roderick tensed as an arrow thrummed into the ground in front of him; he quickly moved himself behind a tree and look at the way it was pointing, judging where it had come from. From the angle it was at someone had loosed it from a fair height - a tree, then. His eyes scanned the treeline, searching for the archer that had loosed it. He narrowed it down to three trees opposite him, staring up into the branches to try and get a glimpse of his attacker. He remembered another encounter he'd had while he was out in the wood; this time around he'd make sure it wasn't a misunderstanding.
"Peace!" he called out to the other archer, "I'm not here for a fight!" even as he said it though he laid his fingertips about the string, ready to draw and loose at his unseen attacker. He didn't plan on taking an arrow through the neck because he wasn't ready.

Akora hesitated and lets go of the arrows nock, and it slides back down in the bag. She pulled her down down over her head letting it rest diagonally around her. Akoras hand grabs onto a semi-stong limb of a branch and slide's down the branch rustles, as she dropped to the grass ground. Her brown eyes watch him alert and she started walking his way "well then" she said somewhat loud, but she didn't know to trust him or not.

She looked him over for a second 'he doesn't look like a hunter but its possible' Akora thinks as she titled her head. "so then why are you out in the woods this far?" she asked and came to a stop feet away.

The other made their way out of the middle of the three trees, branches rustling at their descent. As the archer came into view Roderick noticed that it was a girl, "Well then" she said aloud. Roderick saw her run her eyes over him, judging him; she titled her head to the side while she did it, "So then why are you out in the woods this far?" she stopped a few feet away from her - she didn't trust him, then. He couldn't blame her. Roderick took his hand from the string and moved it to his side, slowly, deliberately, so she could see him do it, "Hunting," he kept his voice soft and gentle so she didn't feel threatened, "I've been following a deer - the tracks led me to this place." he jerked his head at the pile of rye, "That's a good idea," he told her, "I'll have to give it a go sometime." In the pause that followed he took the time to study the girl.

She had long hair that reached past her shoulders, and eyes that watched his closely; it was hard to tell from where he was standing, but they didn't look quite right; a Mixed Blood, or a Kelvic, he decided. She was slim; he could see from the shirt she wore - and the holes where it had been torn. From the lack of wounds or scars it was probably just wear that had ripped her clothes.
As he looked her over he couldn't help but notice how damn tall she was - quite a bit taller than him; it wasn't something he was that used to. Most people didn't get enough food and ended up being quite short. Being able to hunt for your food had it's perks.

"If we're going to keep talking we might want to go over there," he gestured with his bow off to the left, in the tree line.

Akora nodded but thought slightly that he didn't know to much about hunting, as she walked for the tree line but watching Roderick encase he is to try something. Her hair blows into her eyes a bit and she pushed it off to the side looking away form Roderick. Akora grabbed onto a branch and her feet walk of the trees trunk. Her feet would slip a bit as they made there way up, then she flings her foot over the branch and pulled herself up. She leans against the truck sitting on the branch, her eyes looking for any animals heading for the snare.

She waited for Roderick to come over, then looked down at him "just for a tip...try buckwheat or barely...Im only using rye cause Im trying to save money..." She said then looked back out at the snare. She quietly sighs as she realized she left her arrow out in the field.

The girl nodded to Roderick and started walking towards the treeline; he pulled her arrow up out of the ground as a second thought and started following her - seeing from the corner of his eye she was still watching him as they went. A breeze came along and ruffled her hair, brushing her bangs into her eyes; she ran her fingers through her locks and looked away. He stopped and watched as she reached up and grabbed hold of a branch overhead, using it to support herself as she walked her feet up the trunk; her feet slid a little as she went, but shortly after she slung her foot over the branch and pulled herself up on top of it. She leaned back against the trunk and started looking around the area; checking to see if anything was about to deliver itself into her trap, no doubt.

After a moment she looked down at Roderick and said, "Just for a tip...try buckwheat or barley...I'm only using rye 'cause I'm trying to save money..." she returned to looking out at her snare. He saw her chest rise and fall in a little sigh and wondered if she was annoyed with him being there.
"Buckwheat or barley..." he repeated, "I'll make sure to give that a try," he said, "My thanks, miss." he found himself watching the snare with her, wanting to see something come along into her trap, "Name's Rodrick, in case you care." he doubted she did, but introducing himself couldn't hurt; he was determined to see this snare of hers in work. Passing the time with a little small talk would make things more bearable - for him, anyway.

Postby Akora Makunari on August 25th, 2013, 3:09 am

"well then Roderick....nice to meet you...i'm Akora..." she said quietly as she waited still for something to come. She glanced down at Roderick who was somewhat hidden but not completely, 'hope the dang animal doesn't notice him.' she thinks and her mind went off track. Her eyes watched the trap but her mind started thinking that he barely knew what he was doing. She then hears the sound of Muledeer and jumped a bit grabbing onto the trunk of the tree as she almost fell. She then gets her feet on the branch slowly standing up on the branch keeping her back against the tree. Her hand's pull her bow over her head slowly and gently, and her left hand takes hold of the grip. Her right hand slowly pulls an arrow from her bag and nock's it as she wanted to make sure if the deer sees Roderick she might have a chance of hitting it, that is if the deer made a brake for it,

"Well then Roderick....nice to meet you...I'm Akora..." the said girl quietly, not taking her eyes from her snare. Akora heard something then and shifted on her branch in surprise, nearly falling but catching herself on the trunk. Slowly she climbed to her feet and stood up on the branch with her back to the trunk. She pulled her bow free and over her head, while drawing an arrow from from her bag. She notched an arrow to the string, ready to attack the deer when it drew into sight.

Roderick edged himself carefully into the shadows, standing behind some bushes and the tree, and crouching down to the ground. He suddenly realized that he had his fingers on the string again, ready to take aim at the deer when it arrived. It wasn't his though, so he ought to leave it to Akora. All the same having an extra arrow aimed at a target couldn't hurt her chances for catching it.
