Height: 6ft
Hair Colour: Brown
Eye Colour: Blue

Compared to the average human Roderick is rather large - ironic because he was considered a runt in his youth. While not particularly muscular, he isn't entirely skin and bone; there's quite of strength in his arms, from hours spent practicing with a bow. His preference for short hair and cleanly-shaven cheeks is often at odds with his lifestyle, which always leaves him looking a little scruffy and disheveled in some way.

"You coming? Or are you gonna keep playing with your 'arrows'?" - Raven Nightfoot

Character Concept

Image

"I saw that."
Saw what?
"You were looking at that girl weren't you!"
I'm sorry, I didn't realize we were married. I should pay more attention.

- From a very strange day with Raven Nightfoot

Personality - One of Roderick's best qualities is his smile - he can at first glance seem intimidating, but as soon as his lips curl into a smile he just looks mischievous, his eyes glittering and playful. While not exactly uneducated, he wasn't ever really given much in the way of higher education - so new things often intrigue him. At the same time though he becomes irritated by things he doesn't understand, so these two aspects play off one another; he either comes to know about a subject, or switches to something he knows.

As of Spring 515 he has becomes something of an alcoholic. While for the most part he is still the same as he was, he has become silent when it comes to himself and on some days drinks himself into a stupor to forget his situation.

"Oh, so you can do close range as well. Let's see how that goes" - Raven Nightfoot

Ethics - Roderick always tried to stay within the bounds of the law, but now the lines are becoming increasingly blurred. Laws become guidelines; and guidelines are quickly forgotten when one is in danger. When he lived in Zeltiva and Syliras there was always someone around to enforce the law; in Sunberth there is no one. Unless it brings trouble from the gangs, he does whatever he wants now.

Pride once kept him from theft, but soon he'll be taking pride in how easily it comes to him. There are corpses everywhere in Sunberth and not putting their valuables to use would be a great waste - after all he needs all the help he can get. He will at least attempt to make some sign of respect to the dead, but often struggles to find good words to say about someone he's never met.

Character History

Image

Roderick spent his life from birth to late adolescence within the port city of Zeltiva. His father's friends were an integral part of his life, being like extended family for him. Each showed him different skills and gave different life lessons - but because of that he didn't stick to one thing for a long time. His decision to settle upon the bow was due to Ivan, a skilled hunter and expert marksman, who saved his father's life without ever moving his feet. The shot was so impressive it stuck in his mind and, as boys do, he wanted to emulate this man. He'd been using a bow for years, alongside other things, but it was after this incident that he began using it as his preferred weapon. That led to the exclusion of the others, however, so he forgot a fair bit of what he'd been taught.

Shortly after he turned nineteen he decided he'd had enough of lingering around Zeltiva and, as young men are wont to do, he joined the next caravan out of the city, heading towards Syliras with a number of ideas on what he could do. As is the way of the world, the expectations he'd had were a little too polished and he soon discovered the harsh reality of the fortress city. So far, he has been a tad underwhelmed with what he has come across, becoming slightly disillusioned with the cramped, oppressive atmosphere. Despite this he has had a number of good experiences, all of which have served to keep him from moving on. He knows that he will have to leave eventually, however, but plans on learning all he can before he does so. Even he is unsure about whether or not he will return home, or move on to a different city entirely.

After arriving in the city he mulled over all that had occurred during his journey there, letting it all sink in. Believing there to be no use in becoming morose over the details, he promptly found himself out in the woods, doing the one thing he is great at; hunting. Having grown up hunting within the hills near Zeltiva, the experience of doing so in a wooded region was foreign. After a short while he found himself becoming entangled in a 'fight' of sorts with a women due to a misunderstanding; she'd been sneaking around in the bushes, wondering about what Roderick was doing - at the time he was practicing with his bow - and the hunter - rightfully believing the noises to be that of an animal sneaking up on him - had attacked her. After a brief tussle, during which he was slapped a few times in the face, the two eventually managed to piece together the details and, without intending to, he insulted her by making reference to her small size. Storming away he was left alone to his work again.

Much later, in the summer of 513 AV, he met a Kelvic named Sei; agreeing to a challenge in which each of them carried a rattle around their neck, the objective being to get the other person's rattle, Roderick soon found himself being sent on a merry chase through the woods, as the tiger Kelvic hounded him throughout the area. By rubbing arrows against his clothing and then loosing them off in different directions he managed to throw the Kelvic of his trail for a short time, but eventually he was cornered in a tree. Climbing up Sei had begun his transformation, aiming to become a human so he could take his opponent's rattle. Moving quickly the Zeltivan had succeeded in getting onto the same branch Sei was on and, using his knife, took the Kelvic's rattle first, winning the contest. While his new companion seemed disappointed with his failure, he took his defeat well and they parted amicably. Tired and beaten he'd gone home, but his involvement with Sei would continue for the rest of the season, with a friendly rivalry building between the two over the course of several sparring sessions, which formed the groundwork for many of their interactions.

Losing direction over the course of 514 AV, he began to take less and less interest in his work and began to want something more. He thought by joining the Knights of Syliras he might find a greater purpose, but that never came to pass. Meeting with an old friend from Zeltiva, Ricky Maze, he found out that a plague had passed through and killed most of his old friends there. Falling back into his old ways with alcohol, he made his way to Zeltiva to pay his respects, and then later to Sunberth. From there his condition worsened and he was drunk and angry in equal measure for days on end. Some days he would last with only one or two helpings of rum; liquid courage to help him face his situation. On others he drank endlessly, until he fell into oblivion and forgot himself for a time.

"So what? You don't want to have another go at killing each other? - Raven Nightfoot

Armoury
Lamellar - This armour consists of hundreds of small rectangular steel plates patterned in an almost scale-like way, which are pierced in various locations and laced together into horizontal rows. Often worn over other forms of lighter armour such as leather or mail, the design of Lamellar has a better chance of causing blades to skim over its surface rather than piercing or cutting.

Leather Armor - The breastplate and shoulder protectors of this armour are made of leather that has been stiffened by being boiled in oil. The rest of the armour is softer and more flexible leather. Repeated movement has created creases around the shoulders, and it all has a woody smell to it.

Longbow - Most often found in use by military archers on the battlefield, the longbow has a much greater range than a shortbow and is quite a bit larger as well. Roderick's primary weapon of choice, and which he has become increasingly proficient with. Given most humans are shorter than him, Roderick has made do with a weapon which would be better suited for a smaller person. This results in it being easier to use, but also sacrifices the kind of power he could achieve if he had a weapon that was his size.

40 Long Bow Arrows (20 received from Sei Tendo following Hunting Encounter, see below)

Club - A chunk of wood. Duh.

Dagger

Handaxe

x2 Knuckledusters - Recieved from Sei Tendo in [Antinos Fighter Pit] Long Time, Let's Fight I(Roderick) - Pieces of metal designed to fit over a fighter's hand, granting them a more powerful hit.

Clothing
1 Set of Clothing
- Leather Vest - A simple vest made of leather. It has been used heavily - and has developed a rather pungent smell of sweat, wood and dirt.
- Shirt - Made out of linen, the smell of the Bronze Wood seems to cling to the fabric.
- Breeches - Made out of cotton. The smell of leaves and dirt lingers around the fabric.
- Leather Trousers - Crafted out of leather they are still relatively new, with a vague smell of leaves, wood and earth.
- Undergarments
- Boots - Made of heavily worn leather they reach to around the ankle. They are usually covered in a light coat of dust.
- Leather Belt
- Leather Gloves - Gloves made of leather; the index, middle and ring fingers on the right glove are heavily worn by Roderick's constant use of his bow.
- Wool Cloak

Animal
N/A

Heirloom
Father's Flametongue - Given to him by his father as a gift on his birthday, who received it from his father when he was younger. Made of steel, the waving length of the blade seems to have wave patterns worked into the metal, while the handle appears to be made of some form of animal bone.

Questions

General Information :
1. What is your Name? Roderick
2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name? My father used to call me 'cub', on account of how small I was. Ironic, isn't it?
3. How old are you? 21.
4. What is your height? 6 ft.
5. What is your weight? Sorry, I've no idea

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself. [b]A tall, lean fellow covered in dirt that always smells like a forest.
2. Describe yourself as others typically see you. A tall, lean fellow covered in dirt that always smells like a forest.
3. What is your favorite body feature? My eyes.
4. How physically fit are you? Pretty good.
5. How do you typically dress and what is your style? I haven't dressed stylishly for quite a while. I'll make do with whatever I can get my hands on.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?
2. Do you have any brothers or sisters? None that I know of.
3. What is your extended family like? Most of them are dead; nothing too traumatic - mostly just old age or bad luck. I've got a few relatives down in the south - my aunt's... eccentric, to put it mildly; she's a little scatterbrained, but she somehow remembers every last detail about smithing - when she's not wondering about where she left her keys. My uncle's a greedy bastard - literally, he was born out of wedlock. He sells whatever junk he can get his hands on. He was always good to me though; every time he came to visit he brought me something. Sometimes it was a book, other times a cloak - and there was always a handful of sweets. My aunt would give me a knife or a little toy sword when she came around.
4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family? They're just as important as family - sometimes more so. Someday you'll be alone in some foreign place, and your family won't be around to help - but your friends will.
5. Do you treat animals like family? If I like them. If its snapping and yelping at me I'd probably kick it in the face.

Location :
1. Where were you born? In the wilds, as it happens, surrounded by a bunch of other people in a caravan. Not the best place, but my mother didn't really decide to go into labour while we were travelling along through the woods.
2. Where do you live now? Used to be Syliras and before that it was Zeltiva. Now it's Sunberth and I can tell you - shit smells the same wherever you go.
3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be? I've never visited the northern, western or southern areas of Mizahar, so I can't answer that.
4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time? For me my work is leisure time. You'd be surprised how relaxing wandering through the woods can be. If you ignore all the mud and wild animals, of course...
5. Where do you fear to be? Being surrounded by a pack of wolves when I'm armed with just a pointy stick.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses I've a few scratches and scars around my body from where something's clawed me, but they're all small and they've healed well - you can hardly see them.
2. Are you right handed or left handed? Ambidextrous, as it happens. I was born right handed, but I broke two fingers when I was younger so I had to use the other hand until they healed.
3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent? I've picked up a fair amount of the ancient tongue from reading old books, and I know a little Pavi from this girl I met in Zeltiva.
4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? When I'm nervous or edgy I talk. A lot.
5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them) ? I've a full sleeve on my left arm, a few on my right, and two on my chest - one on either side. Some are for fun, others have more meaning.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation? I'm a hunter, if you haven't already noticed.
2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why? I enjoy it. Why? Because it's what I know. I've been doing it for years and I'll be doing it for many more, I'd imagine. When you're good at something you enjoy it.
3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be? A bird, so I could fly around and shit on people. Seriously though, I haven't a clue.
4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why? Smiths. Its a lot of work for them and the things they can are incredible.
5. What occupation do you least like? Why? Scribe. I'd hate to sit about and write all day.

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you? Shy around girls I liked and a little rascal around everything else.
2. What is your favorite memory from childhood? Pass.
3. What is your worst memory from childhood? Pass.
4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents? A good one. No need for you to hear every little detail.
5. Who was your most influential rolemodel? There was this mercenary fellow that was around me for most of my early life. I suppose you could say he was my rolemodel.

Education :
1. What sort of education do you have? Better than you'd think. I did a fair bit of reading, and I sat in on a few classes at the university.
2. Do you like/dislike learning? Learning is good. Everything you learn can help you out. Other than knowing how to be sarcastic - that's never helped me before.
3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities? Physical ones in the wilderness, mental ones from books and my mother.
4. How do you learn best? I can become better at doing something if I physically act it out, but I can understand and remember it better if someone explains it to me.
5. What are your educational goals for the future? I might go through a full year or so at Zeltiva's university, maybe specialize in something there. I just need to find something that would require a good education. Animals and trees don't care if you can speak the Ancient Tongue fluently.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not? It depends on the person. If I like them, then yes - I can bond with them closely. If I hate them then it will remain that way. That's just how I am - there's no spectacular reason for it.
2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not? I can trust someone well enough if I know they aren't lying to me; when that happens things usually go down hill.
3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else? Why do you even care about this? Straight - next question.
4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time. Yes. It was great. Next question.
5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time. Next. Question.

Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time. I have and it was awful - I don't need to relive it. Next question.
2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis? I used to drink a fair amount, but now that I only ever drink until I'm tipsy, I've realized the stuff is horrid. So no, I don't.
3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer? Nothing too strong.
4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them? Pass.
5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific. Pass.

Likes and Dislikes :
1. What are your hobbies? Being interrogated isn't one of them.
2. Do you like to read? Yes.
3. What annoys you more than anything else? Needless prying into my business.
4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do? Sometimes I just lie down in some grass, stare up at the sky and think.
5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why? Being beaten in a fight. I'm sure you can figure out why.

Favorites :
1. What is your favorite color or colors? Blue.
2. What is your favorite time of day? Midday.
3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat? Venison is good. I hate broccoli - why would anyone want to eat those things I'll never know.
5. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you?

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic? Definitely pessimistic at times.
2. What are your religious views? There are a few gods I pay homage to, in private. Caiyha, Rak'keli, mainly...
3. Would you be able to kill? ...I already have.
4. What are your views on sex? Its lovely? What do you want me to say?
5. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life? Having enough money to eat is a good start.

Actions :
1. What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done? I don't know about the best thing ever, but I saved a man from a bear once, so I imagine that would count.
2. What is your greatest regret? Pass.
3. What is your best/worst memory? Next question.
4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why? I'd have devoted more time to training myself; if I'd done that things might have turned out differently.
5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?

Emotions :
1. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings with others? I've found people don't appreciate it when I'm brutally honest, so I smile at them while I think about smacking them over the head with a brick.
2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
3. What makes you happy? Sitting next to a warm fire at an inn with some good food in hand. I enjoy my simple pleasures.
4. Who or what, if anything, would you die for? Those family members I like, and a few close friends.
5. What makes you angry? Being judged by someone on a moral high horse.

Relationships :
1. In general, how do you treat others? I do whatever the hell I want with them. Usually that involves a fair deal of rambling and sarcasm, but there've been a few nasty encounters because of that.
2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why? Mm... pass.
3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why? No idea.
4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover. Pass.
5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why? Every friend I have. If I can't trust them to watch my back, they are no friend of mine.

Group Situations :
1. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict? I've found myself in more than one bad situation because of how I am, so I suppose I tend towards arguing.
2. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations? Yes and no. I veer between stepping up and giving orders to falling back to the sidelines to watch. It depends on the setting.
3. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not? Again, yes and no. Sometimes it can be good mingling in with others, but there are just some days when I can't be bothered with dealing with a crowd of jabbering men and women. Not that you'll find me admitting that to anyone... best keep quiet about this one, mm?
4. Do you care what others think of you? No, I don't give a horse's shyke.
5. What do you think of others, in general? Some people are idiots, some are geniuses. Some are the nicest things to walk on two legs, others are bastards. You can't just sum up every person on Mizahar in a few words.

Self Image :
1. What is your greatest strength as a person? I really have no idea.
2. What is your greatest weakness? I'm frightened of too many things.
3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I don't know. I like everythin' about myself. My hair, maybe? I've always wondered how I'd look if it were black...
4. Are you generally introverted or extroverted? I tend to blurt out whatever is on my mind at the time - which unsurprisingly upsets people.
5. Are you generally organized or messy? I'm organized with things that matter. Mussed up hair? Not important. Making sure my quivers strapped on properly? Very important.

Beliefs :
1. What God or Goddess do you find most appealing, if any? Caiyha, for obvious reasons, and Rak'keli, because I know I could rely on her help when I'm wounded.
2. Which God or Goddess do you fear, if any? Can't say Rhysol brings a smile to my face.
3. Do you have any Gnosis Marks? If so, how did you receive them? I don't have any.
4. What lengths would you go to to please your deity? I'd kill, if there was a strong need for it.
5. Where do you draw the line at pleasing your deity? What is too much? Dying for them; killing for pleasure.

Life & Death :
1. What do you absolutely live for?
2. What is the best part of life?
3. What is the best part of death? Death is never good.
4. If you could choose, how would you want to die? My my, aren't we being grim now? Mm... killed after putting up a good fight, with friends around to stick my killer's head on a pike.
5. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
