The Training Gallery / midnight / Fall 22 494 AV

It was night on an otherwise normal evening in Zinarh. Fall had crept in, and with it cooler weather to keep the Dhani hidden as far down in the depths of the nest as they could go. On this night a young Dhani carefully footed his way through the tunnels in the cave. Barely a hundred was Mamoru, and the trickster was still getting used to using his human-like legs. He took small, slow steps, arm extended and his hand pressed against the wall to help him keep his balance.

It was a very different experience to walk on two legs, and while he may have used more muscles to slither in his Dhani form, he could still feel each and every muscle in his leg twitch with each step he took. Mamoru had been excited about gaining this new transformation, he'd become obsessed with the ability to change his form and was already looking for other ways that he could do it. The young Dhani continued on shaky limbs, an electric spark igniting in his leg muscles whenever he stepped down to hard.

The walk to the Training Gallery was a lot longer, but he found a strange joy in his attempt to walk the length and learn his new body more. Removing his hand from the wall, Mamoru tried to balance only on his legs and placed more careful steps as he moved on. He moved bare feet across the ground, the dark robes that he wore gently sways against the top of his feet. He had purchased sandals already, but was yet to wear them. There was something about his feet on the ground that seemed to tickle him. Normally with his tail, he touched a portion of the ground all at once, and for as long as his body remained near it. But with human feet, he only touched a small space, and upon walking he had to pick up his feet in order to move.

It was very different and he liked it..

Another step and his foot bumped an uneven lump in the cave floor, causing him to stumble and place it down quickly and awkwardly. Mamoru's arms also flailed outward, one hand grasping for the wall just to hold himself up. Hissing under his breath, the young Dhani balanced himself between his hand on the wall and a single foot on the cave floor, as he lifted his other leg and rotated his ankle to make sure nothing was broken or sprained. Once he was sure, the trickster headed on to his destination.

The training Gallery wasn't normally busy during the late bells, but Mamoru had heard about a special event taking place there. One that only a few had been told of. A few of the guards had captured more Myrians, but instead of just torturing and killing them, they decided to force them to face each other in a death match. Some of them were less than cooperative, but with a bit of torture and hypnotism, they all fought for one reason or another. Mamoru finally made it in, and was surprised to see how many Dhani were there. It seemed that a few meant anyone who didn't see things the way the ruling party did.

These were the Dhani, the Queens and those working close with them, that said what was right and what was wrong. They said who did what and when too much was enough. But these were politicians, not soldiers. They claimed to know what the Dhani needed, what they wanted but none of them spend their lives fighting the Myrians off from the nest, nor did they spend time with the Dhani who worked day in and out to keep the nest running.

How could they possibly know anything about what the Dhani needed...

Mamoru headed towards the area where the others were gathered, Dhani in that form and others in human. Mostly those in human form were like him, just realizing the shape shift and learning to use it. He looked around as he entered the gathering, but it seemed the last match had already finished. There was blood all over the ground, but no bodies. He sighed and hugged his shoulders as he waited. Even with the natural heat in the nest and the robes that he wore, the young Dhani was still chilled. Perhaps he needed to eat again.

A third guard appeared from the closet tunnel and spoke briefly with two others before turning from where he came. It appeared that the next match was underway, or there was some sort of problem brewing, for which Mamoru couldn't say. The young Dhani looked around at the others around him, whispers of many, some about the fights and others about more personal matters than had nothing to do with the fights at hand.

"Isss that you Mamoru?" a husky voice called out from within the mass of scales and pale flesh that surrounded him.

Many of the young Dhani were still getting used to their fleshy bodies as well as identifying others they knew in their human form. Some of the Dhani still showed traits in their features that they had in Dhani form which made them easier to track, while others didn't. Mamoru turned to find a plump boy with trimmed hair coming towards him. It was the same Dhani who had told him of the event and urged him to come. The urging wasn't necessary as the Dhani had him at Myrian fights.

"Ulornessss, what isss thisss? You told me there would be Monkeysss slaughtering each other?"

The other young Dhani waved his hand up, he himself almost tripping over his own feet before he made it closer to Mamoru. The trickster didn't mention his friends tumble, knowing that he had just did the same on his way in. He was more interested to hear an explanation of why he wasn't seeing a blood bath as he had been promised. "You jusst misssed a good one. Two Myrian women fighting for one bone knife. There wasss sso much blood and tearing of flessh. And that wasss before either one got the Knife. Sss ssss sss!" He paused, just to chuckle a bit more and enjoy his memories of the fight before continuing. "But don't worry, there isss more to come."

Mamoru folded his arms across his chest and flicked his tongue from his mouth. He was disappointed that he missed the battle, and he hoped that the next fight would be as entertaining as the one that just passed. "You'd better hope sso Ulornesss, otherwisse you and I will be putting on a sshow of our own." Ulornes frowned and was just about to retort when he heard a loud sound from behind them. Both Dhani exchanged a confused look and slowly footed their way through the back of the crowd to investigate. What they found did surprise them and was more exciting than the wait.

A few Dhani around their ages were somewhat huddled together, while two others stood in the middle. The sound rang out again, a loud smacking sound that drew waves of heat into the air. Upon closer inspection they learned that the boys were having a slapping contest to see who could take the most pain. Mamoru watched with amusement at the sight being displayed before him. "Oh...now that'sss gotta hurt." Ulornes laughed loudly, drawing the attention of the boys from their play time. "You two, get over here. Join in." One of the boys called out.

The trickster smiled and rubbed his hands together, something about slapping others had just took on a new meaning for the young Dhani, and he made his way over without a second thought. Ulornes followed, but stopped to observe with the others in the group, while Mamoru headed into the center. "Hey wait, I know them. " The shorter of the two Dhani already in the center spoke up. "You're Momo right? Yea, and you're Looney..or lonesss." He chuckled and slapped his friend's shoulder. "I've seen these losssers around. Hey where's the other losser Zaranal what's hiss name?"

Mamoru gave a quick glance to Ulornes, and around at the others before turning his attention back to the one in front of him. "A sslap for a sslap yesss?" He said nothing else, simply flexing his wrist as he willed his djed to pool from his palm, where a tiny ball was formed. The spiraling ball of res grew to almost the size of the center of his hand before he transmuted it into water. The bubble of water exploded, soaking his palm and fingers instantly. The trickster glared at the boy in front of him and swung up his hand as hard as he could towards his face.

The sound was loud, and if not for the commotion that had been going on with so many people it would have echoed across the cave. The Dhani watching were in an uproar, cheers and woots poured out at the slap Mamoru delivered, and the fresh, red hand print on the side of his opponents face. The young Dhani hissed and waved his hand about trying to will away the sting that burned in his palm from the rather raw way it connected with the others face.

"Ahhh! petchin swine..."

The Dhani hissed and rubbed his jaw, eyes glaring at the trickster, before he quickly turned and with a curved palm, delivered a wicked slap of his own. But unlike this bold Dhani, Mamoru wasn't a brute in the making. He had no intention of playing fair, even in a game as stupid as a slap contest. The moment the Dhani swung out, he turned his head with the sway of his palm. The slap connected with his jaw, but as he had moved his head he only took half of the impact.

The others around them didn't notice, but the Dhani that delivered the swipe realized that his hand didn't make full contact. "Hey wait, I didn't get a good one." he complained an all the others laughed and teased him for his girly swipe. "Don't be a snakling. A sslap for a sslap." Ulornes called out happily. The Dhani wasn't happy about it, but he had to play along or else look like a cheat in front of his peers. He snarled under his breath, but stood and waited for Mamoru to take his turn.

"Come on, give me your besst sshot Momo."

Mamoru's lips twitched, and rose slightly as he wiggled his fingers, reading himself for another go. He pulled his res into his palm once again, centering it's focus in the middle to creature a pin sized ball that grew quickly. The bubble like res puddled, a jelly like shake before the transmuted water orb burst and coated his palm a second time.

The others surrounding the childish game of slap a Dhani, were getting louder as the time passed. It was an exciting time for the youth of the nest, they thought themselves immortals who's powers would only grow as the time passed. Ulornes was one of the loudest chanters in the group, like Mamoru he was one of the shorter amongst the group and where they were building more defined muscles he had a bit of chunk in his gut. The last slap by Mamoru crossed closely with the one before, making the hand mark appear to have eight fingers and two thumbs.

"Ooooh! That had to ssting!" another Dhani hissed.

The trickster smiled, happy with his display so far and was ready to continue on with his fun. It was his opponent's turn, but the angry Dhani didn't wait, and as soon as his head spun back around, he lifted a hand and smacked the smaller Dhani hard across his face. Mamoru tried to turn his head as he had before, but the quickness of the swipe caught him off guard and he took the slap fully. His head rocked back and he struggled to stand on uncertain legs. The other Dhani were quick to grab him and push him back up into the middle of the ring of scales.

"Feelsss good huh?"

Ulornes looked worried as his friend turned around and he saw that half of his face was now bright red. For anyone of tan skin it wouldn't look so bad, but for a Dhani that had never felt the warmth of the sun upon his skin, it appeared that he had on two different colors of face paint. "Come on Mamoru, sshow him how rough you are!" The crowd hissed in anticipation, the harder the slap the happier they were. Mamoru's opponent smirked and rubbed his hands together, he was sure that he had Mamoru scared now and was hoping that he would cry.

"Come on Momo, pleassse sslap me harder.."

The trickster rubbed his hand across his face, he could feel the burning in his cheek as well as just about the whole side of his face. It hurt, there was no denying it, but the young Dhani wasn't about to cry over a little pain. Lifting his eyes back to the other, Mamoru rotated his wrist and started to flex his fingers again. However that wasn't the hand that he pulled his res into. It was his left hand, the hand that seemed to be lifeless at his side. A show of misdirection, while his opponent focused on the hand that moved, he formed his res into the other hand, crafting it into the shape of his full palm, before transforming the layer into water that soaked his hand and fingers.

It was too much to bare, too much to ignore. The young Dhani were all woots and ahhs by this time. Some laughing and others goading them to do more. He was embarrassed now, a bright ,red hand print on both sides of his face. He hadn't expected to be made a fool of, and he was also realizing that the wet slaps were something more than just sweaty palms.

"You'll pay for that..."

Suddenly he lashed out, fist clinched tightly a he rammed it into Mamoru's jaw. Already standing on weak legs, the trickster was easily knocked off his feet and hit the ground hard. The other Dhani held the circle to encase the two in a ring of sorts for the next stage of their battle. The angry Dhani dived on Mamoru and delivered punch after punch to his face and head. Ulornes tried to help, but he too was taken down, tackled by the friend of the other Dhani. Mamoru tried to cover his head and to block, but still half of the punches thrown made it through and connected with his head.

Finally, the trickster was able to get his hands up and caught hold of one of the Dhani's arms and pulled him into an arm-bar. He twisted the Dhani's arm backwards while pulling it towards him as if he planned to brake it. The crowd surrounding them cheered on, hoping for someone, anyone to be badly hurt. Mamoru couldn't see them anymore, he only saw the face of the Dhani in front of him. Their eyes were locked, as the trickster pulled him into his gaze. He twisted his arm harder, watching the pain slowly stretch across his face with each passing moment.

The angry Dhani clinched his fist and rammed it into Mamoru's side to try and free himself, but with the angle he was locked in, his punches weren't as strong and Mamoru only twisted his arm harder. He would have broken it, would have snapped it in two, if not for the meaty hands that suddenly appeared and pulled them both apart. Looking up in surprise the trickster found himself being pulled up by two huge Dhani adults. They had heard, saw what was going on and came to put a stop to it. Along with the angry Dhani and Ulornes, Mamoru was forced out of the training area for the night.

The fun was over now, or at least for the juvenile bunch of hissing Dhani that were kicked out of the event by the guards on duty. The bulk of them headed off together to find more nightly entertainment, while Mamoru and Ulornes stood just outside the training hall, hovering in the shadows. Ulornes leaned against the cave wall to rest his legs from the strain of carrying his heavier upper body. Mamoru leaned against the opposite wall, a had stretched out to help balance his weight against where he stood.

"Petchin sson of a Myriansss uncle. Now we'll miss the sshow! You know, I've had it. I'm going after them and I'm going to really crack their sskullss!"

Ulornes was pissed, even more so he was livid. He was sick of dealing with the antics of the other Dhani his age and he was ready to put a stop to it. The only thing that was holding him back was his slowness and weak wrestling abilities. Mamoru half listened to his friend complaining, while also looking into the gallery to see if another fight was about to start.

"Do calm yoursself Ulornesss, it'sss over. Sseeking a fight now wouldn't be ssmart esspecially with thosse sstring legss of yourss. But, all may not be losst, perhapsss we can still ssee the fightsss from here."

Ulornes was too angry to listen to reason and too weak to actually go after them. While she cursed and fussed, the trickster kept his eyes on the gallery, something was happening there. Another moment and the Dhani inside started to cheer again as the guards brought out two other Myrians bound with chains, and positioned them in the ring. A show was about to start, another bloody battle for the entertainment of the Dhani. It was hard to see much from where he stood, but he could see enough to enjoy the duel. That was until he noticed something else.

Near one of the other exits into the dark tunnels, the place where the guards had been standing until they escorted the captured savages to the ring, was now empty, and no other guards arrived to take their place. The trickster was curious now, what would he find if he could sneak into the tunnel and into whatever cave was behind it? "Ulornessss enough crying. Look there...you ssee. The guardss have moved. That'ss where the Myriansss came from. What do you think iss in there?" Ulornes paused for a moment and stared out into the gallery, he followed the line of Dhani guards to the center of the ring, and back to the empty spot where they used to be.

"Letssss go and ssee for oursselvesss. Jusst watch your sstep."

Mamoru nodded to the direction they should take, one that was as close to the wall as possible. Ulornes followed cautiously behind him, both young Dhani taking simple and soft steps, putting one foot in front of the other. The trickster glanced over his shoulder a few times just to make sure that the guards hadn't spotted them, and continued on into the tunnel. It was dark, long, narrow tunnel leading back into a cave room that opened up at both sides of them. The first thing they noticed were the three Myrians tied against the wall across from them. Nothing else was in the room, save for a table, and a few buckets.

"Now what do we have here?"

The young Dhani's headed further inside and stood in front of the captured monkeys. They were strung up, arms a part, heads shaven, and wounds and whips covering their torn flesh. Mamoru stared at them with intrigue in his eyes and malice in his heart. It wasn't often, or any time at all that Dhani his age came face to face with a Myrian and lived to tell about it. There was something empowering about the situation and the boys were easily drawn into the lust for blood. Ulornes moved from Mamoru's left side to the right, taking a closer look at the monkey men and even poking their wounds with his sharp nails.

"What do you think Mamoru? Sshall we have fun with them? I'm ssure they are due in the ring ssoon, but who ssayss they have to make it that far?"

The trickster was focused on the single Myrian hanging in the middle, he was a thick and lanky man, with eyes as black as night. There was something hiding behind those eyes, something raw and fearless....the young Dhani was drawn in before he even knew it. Tilting his head to the side, Mamoru closed and tighten his fist, before coiling it back and punching the Myrian in his chest. He gasped loudly, couching from the impact of the blow. The other Myrians seemed irritated, but as they were tired and bound to the wall there was nothing they could do.

"Ohhh..now that'ss a good way to have fun. Releassse all your frusstraitonss."

Ulornes chuckled and sunk his fist into the gut of the Myrian closest to him. Mamoru lightly shook his hand, the chest of the Myrian felt almost like stone upon his flesh, but that didn't stop him from doing it again. Only this time, he reached up and delivered a wicked hook across the man's face. The Myrian frowned and grunted, but otherwise was able to take the plain. And so Mamoru slugged him again, one fist slamming into his gut, and just as he leaned forward as much as he could, the Dhani swung up and nailed him right across his chin.

Ulornes laughed aloud, starting his own flurry of punches on the Myrian right in front of him. "Issn't thisss great? monkey punching bagsss!"

Cackling, the trickster clinched both of his fist and one after the other, he rammed them into the ribs of the Myrian, again and again, then finished off his combo with another slug to the Myrian's jaw.

The Myrian grimaced, a groan slipping from between clinched teeth as he fought the pain away. He then returned his gaze to the young Dhani in front of him. He could see it in his pale, golden brown eyes, that this creature enjoyed the act of torture. Mamoru smiled wickedly, his head tilted slightly as he looked upon the bruised features of the man in front of him. He could see hate, pain, and anger in those dark eyes and it pleasured him. The trickster decided to present the Myrian with a bit of the knowlegde that he had learned and spoke to him in his own tongue.

"You want speak? Do say, hmm?"

Ulornes turned to look on, after giving the Myrian in front of him another slug to the face. He chuckled as he moved closer to Mamoru, equally interested in what ever the Myrian had to say. The man stared down at them both, working his mouth around to loosen the stiffness in his jaws. "You think this is pain? You have seen nothing. I am a warrior of Myri my art is war. A warrior enjoys a good challenge, but you wouldn't know anything about that. Attacking someone while they are bounded and defenseless. You create your own shame..both of you. Release me, from these bounds and I shall give you a real fight."

Mamoru did't understand every word of what the Myrian said, but he understood enough to know that he was being challenged. Who was this Myrian to think himself on the level of any Dhani, let alone Mamoru. Both young Dhani started to laugh, the offer of a battle was too easy to take advantage of. "Sstupid Myrian, you're going to regret thisss.." Ulornes said as he started to undue the chains on him. The trickster stood in silence another moment, thinking over what he had heard, and finally stepped in to help Ulornes free the Man from the wall. Once he was freed, the Myrian fell to the ground in a lump. Ulorens and Mamoru cackled again and the humor of it all.

"Come on, get up and fight."

Ulornes yelled and reached down to pull the man up. Suddenly the Myrian shoved his shoulder into the Dhani and pulled his weak legs from under him. Quickly the Myrian jumped up and reached for Mamoru. The trickster fought back, first catching the man in a grapple hold and keeping him from over powering him. Sadly the dhani's legs were just as weak and before him knew it, his legs slipped and he fell with the Myrian on top of him. One pound after the next, the man slammed his fist into Mamoru's face again and again. The Dhani reached up himself, swinging a few times to land a punch into the Myrian's face and staggered him.

Ulornes got his second wind and stumbled forward to grab the Myrian and pull him off Mamoru. Being quicker on his feet, the Myrian spun the young Dhani around, and slammed him into the ground as he had done Mamoru. He started the same assault as before, ramming his fist into the face of Ulornes again and again. Mamoru slowly pulled himself up against the wall, then stumbled forward and fell into the pile. Grabbing the Myrian from behind, the trickster pulled him into a choke hold, even wrapping his legs around his lower body to put his weight behind it. Ulorens pushed himself up to his knees and one after another he slammed his fist into the face of the Myrian until he heard a cracking sound.

"Petching Myrian, get hiss asss up!"

Ulorens was enraged now and he wasn't finished punishing the man. Mamoru pushed the drowsy man away and crawled to his knees. He grabbed the man's arm and slipped it over his shoulder to help him pull him up with Ulornes doing the same on the other side. Standing on wobbly legs, the two young Dhani stumbled a few times just trying to guide the Myrian towards the table. Looking back to the two still chained to the wall, Mamoru hissed and spat at them. "Dhani defeat Myrian...end." Switching positions, Mamoru and Ulorens lifted the man up as high as they could before driving him down through the table. There was a loud clatter as the table broke along with all the bones in the torso of the Myrian.

"Wwhooooraaa!"

Unlornes yelled triumphantly, before he and Mamoru collapsed on the ground. Both were bloodily, tired, and blood pumping with all the excitement of a real battle. The trickster cackled softly, it was the most fun he had in a long time. But what they didn't know, was that along with the clatter of the table braking and Ulorens loud victor cry, the guards had heard and were now on their way.
