Basic Information
Race: Human - Drykas Birthday & Age: Fall 483 AV, 25 years old Gender: Male
Physical Description Standing at 5’11’’ and 175lbs, Koray is not very imposing in appearance. Narrow shoulders and wiry muscles, he is not built for strength so much as speed and endurance.
His hair, left free, falls in faint waves to his shoulders. He alternates between braiding it and leaving it unbound, depending on the time and place—usually loose for hunting or when roaming the plains, braided during clan meetings or other such social occasions. His skin is fairer than might be expected for a plainsman, his eyes hazel-green and piercing.
His windmarks twist in lazy curls across his ribcage and creep over his shoulders, usually covered by his clothes but sometimes glimpsed under the loose, open collars he favors when it comes to clothing. |
Character Concept Open-minded, outspoken and friendly, Koray is quite sociable and nice, sometimes even charming in his own, slightly abrupt and blunt way. He is not fond of conflict, and if one happens to break near him, he will usually try to divert, calm or otherwise defuse it. If it comes to it he will defend himself, and do it well, but his heart isn’t in it.
He feels most at ease when out in the Sea of Grass, riding and hunting: as Windcall of the Emerald Clan, tracking and hunting has been trained into him since early childhood, and there is a soothing sense of responsibility and satisfaction that steals over him when he hunts, in addition to the thrill of outsmarting beasts that could otherwise kill him.
Hunting has also infused him with a world of patience and a deep(er) respect for animals, with the notable of glassbeaks, which he absolutely loathes. Koray can enjoy moments of solitude just as much as the times when he is surrounded by family and friends, and the wanderlust that runs in him a bit deeper than for the average Drykas pushes him to make ever longer expeditions into the plains, alone but for his strider. |
Character History The second son of the then-Ankal’s fourth son, Cillin, of his first name, never had to worry about leadership or anything more than being a contributing member of the clan. First kept busy around the Pavilion and set to take care of the hunting cats and dogs, he was sent out with a pair of them to hunt by himself as soon as he acquired his windmarks, which happened on his sixth winter, when his first strider Koray accepted, or rather chose, him.
It was not long after that he was taken under his aunt’s—or, as it was, the Pavilion’s main hunter’s—wing, and taught the trade on small expeditions that brought them out on the plains and away from the safety of the clan, in search of prey and scouting for herds and watering holes.
It was during one of those trips that he accidentally crossed the path of a wounded, isolated young Glassbeak, and while it had weakened it enough to allow his aunt to bring it down with a few well-aimed arrows, it had also made it angry enough that it had mauled Koray and almost killed Cillin.
There was no saving the strider, not after such grievous wounds, so Cillin did as was required by the Laws, and built the cairn before being dragged home, still bleeding but much too preoccupied to worry about his own injuries.
He changed his name then, in memory of his horse and what had brought its death. For three years he was more or less bound to the Pavilion, striderless, before his second (and current) strider, Sanem, came to him and he was free to roam on his own again. The experience marked him, and brought him to go out even more than before, even as he grew more cautious. |
