A feeble smile touched her lips as he voiced his concern. Waiting he settled himself the weaponsmith stared at her hands folded carefully in her lap. The last thing Hadyn Skellig ever did was disclose her feelings and she wasn't terribly thrilled at the prospect of explaining anything, even if it was to sweet Ethan. Allowing the moments to pass between them in silence the woman's eyes rose as she prepared to speak.
"Baby's fine, far's I can tell," she assured him. "Aside from turnin' me into the most captious of eaters, he's not done much 'cept grow. No. I think you deserve some... light shed on this situation."
It was a serious topic - as such she found the necessity to adopt a circumspect tone, the accent slipping in and out of her words with more care than usual. Whenever Liam had something of a dire matter to talk about he almost entirely lost his accent, becoming somber and well spoken, as if he'd just left the university in Zeltiva. For her part Hadyn could never speak as lucidly or poignantly as her brother but a certain weight was placed in both voice and words.
"The baby's father is vexed with responsibilities of his own. He has a young child from 'nother relationship who has recently come under his care. Not to mention the duties he must undertake as a Knight-in-trainin'."
Hadyn paused. She was loathe to admit Orion was a squire, the thought conjured in most folks' minds that of a young boy or capricious teenager. She couldn't decide which was more awkward - that Orion was a squire or that he was near thirty. But she continued on.
"Came to the Knights later than most, he did. He's 'round our age I suspect. Neither of us are particularly keen on the other. Less so now," this comment was muttered more for her than Ethan. "I can't fault him for bein' indecisive. But I don't honestly know where he stands on the matter. Orion's not the most garrulous of men."
Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear the brunette turned her gaze to Ethan - addressing him directly. She hoped her words would help him understand, at least partially, why she was so uncertain. As much as she would love to give up and allow herself to entertain the emotions roiling in her heart she had to balance Orion herself and Ethan. He'd been so visibly distraught to learn the baby belonged to another man. And although he pledged to help her child it was clear he harbored envy.
"Ethan, I appreciate everythin' you've done. You've gone above an' beyond for us. An' I really don't know how to thank you. I've no talent in expressing my emotions - you know this. But just... thank you. I don't mean to shut you out or leave you confused. Most of the time I can barely tolerate m'own doubt. Must be a bitch from your end."
Hadyn cracked a small smile, unsure of how he'd respond. She hadn't meant to name Orion as the father but seeing as the damage was done she hoped Ethan either didn't know of him or wasn't aware of his reputation.
