Magecrafting services for the Rich and the Powerdul

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Business Type: Magic Items

Quintessence sits in Dry Plaza as a fairly normal sized shop with the picture of a hammer and a star on an anvil. Not to be confused with a Blacksmith, the shop actually boasts no displays in the windows. Instead, it is word of mouth that Rowan spread his small service around Kenash. Inside there are shelves with assorted items. Sometimes Rowan buys trinkets from other shops and puts them up front as possible items to enchant. While the selection always seems to change, Rowan seems to have no attachment to any one sort of item. The shop is about half the size as most of the Kenash shops as the front of the business serves only to welcome people in. On the counter is a book that can be perused. Inside are a number of Magecrafted items that the owners consented to allowing Rowan to advertise. Within the pages are also a brief explanation of Magecraft and what Rowan can do with items, including requisite cost. When a customer is ready, they ring a small bell on the counter and Rowan will come out to see them.

The three room business smells strongly of something sharp and yet unidentified. Behind the counter of the shop are two doors. One leads to a small but elaborate office and the other to a well maintained Magecraft laboratory.

Consultations are either done in the front of the shop, or in the case of multiple customers, in his office. Rowan’s office is a cozy place, facing out to the river between the Dry Plaza and the other bank. In his office is a small bookshelf of research notes and a few books on magecraft itself. His desk is strewn with plans and ideas, haphazardly organized and behind his desk is a small alcohol cabinet with Morealis spirits. When in neither location, he can be found by knocking on the door to his Magecrafting lab. The door itself is fitted with a good lock, preventing all but expert and better level thieves from picking the lock.

Inside, the lab is well equipped for Magecrafting at any skill level, with a lot of room to improve. There are three pedestools, although Rowan usually only works on one item at a time. While he has room to expand his business, he has yet to meet another Magecrafter he respects enough to allow to work with him. Blackboards set next to another desk depict the frenzied scribbles of ideas and scattered forumulas whose solutions are known only to Rowan. Most of them are a guide of how to enchant certain items the best way, and the steps they take. Sometimes, when it is required for another mage to be present for an enchanting, Rowan will allow them back into his lab, standing beside the item in question during sessions of enchantment. It is not uncommon for Rowan to drag some of his padded chairs into his own lab and sleep there after especially late nights working on his products.

Quintessence is a shop designed for use by the dynasties. Having the requisite wealth in order to purchase his products, Rowan often does most of his business with them and provides discounts to the final price based on their standing with the Morealis family. All Dyansties can enjoy a discount, but those in better standing with the Morealis enjoy a 20% discount. For those of his own family, a 25% discount is often arranged…likewise it is said Rowan is open to other methods of payment in political favors to take some of the price of what the items would ordinarily cost.

Services
First the item to be enchanted must be provided, followed by a consultation with Rowan about what they want the item to do and what that will cost them.

((All prices crosschecked with the MC article. Thrice the cost of production is often their sale price))

MC1 (1,000 upfront for cost of materials) 2,000 on completion
MC2 (1,700 upfront for cost of materials) 3,400 on completion
MC3 (3,000 upfront for cost of materials) 6,000 on completion
MC4 (5,000 upfront for cost of materials) 10,000 on completion
MC5 (9,000 upfront for cost of materials) 18,000 on completion

Items with three or more steps in one area require a specialized deal, as a catalyst needs to be acquired in order to make the item.

10% discount to dynasty members on final price

20% discount to dynasty members in favorable standing with the Morealis family
