IC News travels slowly in Mizahar. Fortunately there is a constant stream of news from around campfires, from caravan to caravan and from merchants to merchants. Within this forum lies the best of the best of this talk. Also, within this forum, OOC news from the staff and players can be found. This forum requires all posts to be 'approved' by a Founder before they are displayed. So if you post within, be patient. Your post did display - it simply will not show to everyone until approved as actual 'news'. Please keep all Introductions, Status Updates, and various other discussions in their appropriate forums and leave this area for game news!

Introducing The Mizahar Grader Program

Dear Mizaharians-

The Staff is proud to announce The MIzahar Grader Program. This collective program has been a long time in the making and a definite group effort from the staff and select individual players. It is a well known fact on Mizahar that we have too many players to staff and that means that only a few individuals are responsible for all the XP Awards on the game. This needs to change. The wait for players to get XP Awards (which most of us call Grades) its far too long. Sometimes, it has been taking months. To this end we've decided that long term players who are experienced and steadfast in their devotion to Mizahar could be trusted to award XP to ease some of the Storyteller burden and free up those staff members to write more threads with others.

The Grader Program starts and ends with the Grading_Guide. Huge Kudos go out to DS Magpie who compiled this guide and spearheaded the project which culminated in this very comprehensive guide to grading threads on Mizahar. By following this guide, Graders and Staffers alike should be standardizing grades and coming up with almost identical awards after reading threads they are grading.

So, now we have a guide and a program for awarding players Grader Status. How you apply? This is easy. The Following Application must be submitted to the Help Desk. No recommendations are required at this time. However, once a PC applies to be a grader, they will be given a ten question T/F test that is unique for them alone. This test must be completed in the HD and they must score an 80/100 at least and then explain their wrong answers and the logic behind them if they miss any of the questions. Questions will be pulled from the grading guide directly. A Grader Application may take up to one week to process through the Help Desk so be patient.

Post a thread in the Help Desk titled "Grading Application" and have it include the following things:

Name:
Age:
Name of all PC's You've Played Or Play:
Staff Positions You Hold Or Have Held:
Join Date On Mizahar:

Then write a brief paragraph as to why you want to acquire Grader Status.

Qualifications For Becoming A Grader

  • PS Must Be 18 Years Of Age
  • PC Must Have 60 Days of Game Play On Mizahar
  • PC in Good Standing With No History Of Trouble With The Staff
  • PC Must Have No History Of Failed Staffing (Forced Retirement, Inactivity, Favoritism)
  • PC Must Be Known And Active In Their Gameplay

All grades are subject to review by an ST. The Staff has the right to revoke Grader Status at any time. There are certain rules Graders must follow in order to be effective. They can, for instance, only grade posted grade requests in known grade request threads in the order they are posted. These requests must be done in a timely fashion and once a placeholder for grading is placed (see guide for details on that) the grade must be posted that day. Graders who leave ungraded threads around with placeholders in them are going to be removed from grading status. Any hint of favoritism, not following the grading guide, not awarding grades correctly, etc and the Grader will be removed from the program. This can be done without a buddy system and cliche being catered too. But it will only work if the volunteer graders remain fair, impartial, and judge the threads to the best of their abilities.

Feel free to ask any questions in this thread.

One thing I don't see in the grading guide is what to do when one's own thread is next in line. I presume PC graders can't grade their own threads (which is also not explicitly stated that I saw), so do they skip to the next in queue or wait/grade somewhere else until theirs is no longer on the top?

They skip them. Let the other ST's or graders do it.

That's correct. Never grade your own stuff. Skip it and move on to the next request.

I've added the following note to the Grader Guide.

Please note, never grade your own personal threads or threads your PC is involved in. Please skip them and leave them for another grader or storyteller to take care of. In addition, if a ST has a note on a grade request that states to leave the request for the ST, please do so.

Another question just came up.

Recommendations. I said in the video you'd need them, but when I posted the requirements, I removed that one. Namely its hellihsly hard for a player to get a staff recommendation these days. And when a staffer agrees to recommend someone, it often takes a week or two before they will actually sit down and write one. This is tragic for me, because if you know someone well enough to recommend them, you outta be able to sit down for five minutes and HD ticket a recommendation.

So I waved this requirement. If you can pass the test, which several people have, then you can grade.

Yes. You just need to be on the site more than 60 days.

Introducing The Mizahar Grader Program

Postby Slenta on November 15th, 2013, 2:19 pm

I joined August 23rd as Nuhaine, but I only stuck around for a few weeks. I did not show my activity for the month of October.

Am I still eligible to apply?

If you are in doubt, you can always stick around for another 60 days, and then you will definitely be eligible. :)

The rule says "60 days of gameplay", so if you were absent for 30 of them, I'd say that doesn't count toward your total.
