Kai opened his eyes and looked at Marek, and noticed that she had a confused expression drawn on her face as though surprised at his question, in a confused tone she answered his question
“I honestly don't know. I was raised never to trust for trusting in anyone will get me killed....there are numerous possible reasons but none of which would rightfully fit into this situation. Perhaps it was on a whim. Maybe to be kind. Maybe some subconscious part of me just wanted some company. Maybe I'll find the answer to your question but for now I don't have one. At least you are safe here." after answering Kai's question Marek got up and moved to an adjacent room, stopping about halfway and says
"My name is Alva. Alva Marek. Just so you know." and continues into the room.
Kai mulls over Alva's response for a couple of minutes
She was raised to not trust anyone, because it could have resulted in her death? That is not something I would wish on anyone, and compared to my childhood... it is just awful to think that she had to suffer through a living hell. before looking around the house to familiarise himself with the layout, should he need to leave quickly or need to find his way around when there was no light. After walking around for a little Kai decides to enter the same room Alva entered a few minutes before, to discover that she had fallen asleep.
She must have been exhausted. Kai thinks to himself as he gently picks Alva up and carries her to the bed in the bedroom and places her on it, putting the covers over her and walks out of the room, sits in a meditative stance and takes out his mother's flute from his pack, adjusts the ring on his finger, an old habit, and thinks to himself
Alva looks peaceful when she is asleep, it must be her only way to escape the life she is currently living. After thinking, Kai begins to play the flute absentmindedly, yet softly, a song taught to him shortly before his mother died, which reminded him of the many things, mainly when his mother first taught him how to play the flute.
