Her independence is both her strongest attribute—and also her weakest. She’ll fight tooth and nail over something, even if she is in the wrong and often refuses to apologize to anyone other than her siblings—and even then it could take days before she admits she’s wrong. Outwardly with strangers, she confident and friendly and rather outgoing, but she doesn’t tend to make very lasting friendship with people. Under stress or difficult situations however, she takes on more of her brother’s snarky attitude—unless it’s directly with him. Their sister could claim to hours of useless taunting between the two. Her stubbornness however does not get in the way for love of her family. Despite the torment she inflicts on her brother, and the trouble she’ll drag her sister into, they are the only family she has left. She would do anything for either of her siblings, right or wrong. They are the only people truly important to her in the world, and in some ways the only ones that keep her grounded in reality. Without her siblings influence on her life, she would have ended up far more selfish and shallow. In some ways, Katerina hates her life in Sylira. She feels trapped and lost compared to her siblings who had more purpose in life, and it often leads her into doing things without thinking of the consequences to herself or others. In other ways, she is too afraid to leave home. She has no survival skills to travel, and it would mean leaving her family behind, something that she could never do. Katerina—while not content—has accepted that not much is going to happen with her life, but there is no reason why she should live it quietly. Character History Katerina’s mother loved children. The only problem with that was she had trouble conceiving. After the birth of Nathan, it took several years before their mother became pregnant with her and sister. And the first several years of her life were fairly filled with the usual family happiness. Her mother taught her sister how to cook, her father brought Nathan along to learn how to hunt. With Katerina’s energy, it had taken some work, but her mother finally found something her daughter enjoyed. Singing. Between her siblings however, Katerina felt like the left one out. She had no doubt her parents loved her, but she held no connection with them like her siblings did. It didn’t bother her however, she enjoyed being the black sheep of the family. And while she caused enough trouble, it wasn’t until their father died on a hunting accident that things took a downward spiral twist in her life. Spring of 505 AV, Nathan and their father went on a routine hunting trip. Katerina and Lea remained at home with their mothe, being only 12 years old. Everything seemed fine, until nightfall. They never came home late, and right before their mother left the house to search the city for them, Nathan was escorted home by one of the Syliran knights. Nathaniel was changed—but no one was as changed as their mother. And while Nate had been with their father when he died, Katerina never once blamed him for their father’s death. A once bright and bubbly woman, their mother fell into a deep depression. Nathaniel took over taking care of his sisters for the most part, watching their mother slowly deteriorate. By winter their mother came down with pneumonia, and left the twins entirely in Nathan’s care. Katerina spent the first few years attached to Nathan’s hip, until she turned 16. Since then she has been known to cause torment to her older brother, often arguing and bickering with him almost constantly over any decision he made over the family. Regardless however, Katerina has never once considered leaving her family behind, to discover a life for herself. Family & Friends Name: Nathaniel Deveraux (Player) Relationship: Brother Status: Living Age: 25 Nathan is Katerina’s older brother. In early life she depended heavily on his presence and influence. This was especially true after their parents passed away. She is most like her brother as well, in terms of having quite the snarky attitude. They bicker quite often, especially since Katerina turned 16. Despite it all, deep down she is incredibly grateful to her brother. She knows her and her sister would have never stood a chance if he hadn’t stepped in to take care of them. She would do anything she could to protect him. Name: Lea Deveraux (Player) Relationship: Fraternal Twin Sister Status: Living Age: 19 Between the two siblings, Lea is obvious closer to her sister. Lea of course has the fiery attitude all the Deveraux’s possesses. But unlike her sister, she is more willing to apologize. Even though Lea looks nothing like either of her siblings, both Kat and Nathan would protect her with their lives. Kat being only 3 chimes older than Lea, Kat tends to treat Lea like the little sister of the family. But that said, Kat also enjoys getting Lea into trouble with her. Kat rarely argues with Lea, and even as grown adults Kat tends to lean on Lea’s advice. Without Lea playing mediator between Nathan and Kat, the two siblings would likely have a large rift between them. Of all the siblings, Lea is most certainly the glue that holds the family together.
