Bag Of Bones

20th Of Fall 513 AV

It was a different kind of day, one of boredom he'd been cooped up in his room for days. He had no materials in which to use in the workshop and sported no authority to request for items to work with. And wandering the Citadel was an even more boring affair, snide undead and lofty apprentices snickered at the fresh pulser off the boat. He could not explore much at the heart of the magic epicenter of the world as a majority of the citadel was closed off to him.

He grabbed his empty backpack and a couple pieces of jerky before heading out of the dormitory. It was time to get some fresh air, time to visit the testing grounds. He wanted to explore what was open unfortunately what limited things were open were in fact dangerous and risky. Of course what kind of battle mage was he if he was to afraid to crawl out from his bed and explore what lurked outside.

No he'd made up his mind as he traveled along corridors and winding paths to get to where he needed to be. Past the grand halls and the figures of the past, Morvale wondered about this place and those that dwelled there. We're all undead like the nuits? Or was there something else? He knew that becoming a Nuit at least in his situation wasn't a smart idea, he'd loose the reflex and agility he'd spent his lifetime to acquire, maybe there were alternatives. But that was a long ways from here and now, he needed to make something of himself first.

And with that he stepped out the door, greeted by the rays of the radiant sun as he embarked on his journey towards the prairie.

He'd made up his mind to travel along the fringes and to keep himself out of harms way or at least try.

As he walked out of the citadel he couldn't help but feel alive, it was strange how accustomed he'd become to such an oppressive entity. The politics the bureaucracy there was so much stuff going on at once it was stifling. He hadnt had the pleasure of meeting notables or people of importance but he partly blamed himself for being a shut in.

It seemed strange that they made a big deal about this place, it was quiet and serene it felt and looked empty a mixture of sand and trees but still as he continued to trek forward the most important thing remained ever elusive.

Those dang monster bones, what he wouldn't give for the tibia of some speedy creature. Although he wasn't picky, all he wanted really was something to play with in the workshop.

But it seemed if he was going to yield any results just standing on the sidelines wasn't going to cut it. He took a breath to steady his nerves as he walked out of his comfort zone into the shyke.

He really hoped those bones were worth it.

Each step was a movement closer to his goals, he swore he could almost taste the sweet taste of glorious success. His mind hummed with standing Nuit ovations and congratulations. He could see himself wedged between mistress Wanza and Lector flashing the audience a half grin smile while giving the cheering council of five the thumbs up, he seemed lost in a day dream as he haphazardly maneuvered through the wilderness.

In fact everything seemed fine while he was in pursuit of the quarry, however he could hear a low rumbling that snapped him out of his lackadaisical trance. His hand reached for one of those finely balanced daggers and drew it free from its leather imprisonment.

He held the dagger out as he assumed a defensive stance as he moved into the thick of it just a little more. He couldn't panic he had to resist the urge and find out exactly what was creating the commotion. As he slithered and snaked his way forward it seemed what he'd been looking for had found him instead of the other way around.

It came from one of the bushes, some snarling freakish looking beast. Never seen anything like it, part dog. No scratch that all dog, partly rotting its eyes glowing a shade of yellow. He didn't know what to make of the monstrosity, and it only displayed a very basic degree of intelligence. Was this a product of animation? What kind of sorcery was this?

Bag Of Bones

The hound bellowed eerily as it began its rampant pursuit of Morvale. Dagger in hand tip pointing at the beast he stood his ground. His hand trembling before the undead beast that heaved heavily in tow with its charge.

As the animated monster snapped its maw, Morvale went into a state of mind to collect himself and fall into the training. His body synchronized with the shadow within himself and redirected the energy from one side to the other allowing him to step off to the side in the blink of an eye. His dagger thrust forward as the beast narrowly missed its target. Allowing the dagger to plung into the meat of its torso. He cranked his wrist and the beast shrieked a terrifying noise, as the dagger twisted inside its wound.

Morvale staggered back as the beast although injured seemed unphased or daunted by the injury that might have been a mortal blow to a living creature. Some how that idea or notion to shrug off a brutal and fatal blow made him think about the undead even more. What was beyond the veil? Could immortality like this be his? Would he be able to preserve his agility if he became an undead. So many questions rushed his mind as he tangled in a fight for his life against the ghoul.

Bag Of Bones

He'd defended himself with a mixture of flux and dagger, of course as the fiendish canine came back for a second round his cool confidence had worn off. Debilitated by its devilish looks and inability to be halted by blows that would kill the living there was panic. As the beast lunged forward Morvale hesitated he was after all just a novice with knife play despite having a wide array of support skills. This was one of those moments when bewilderment set in, a perplexing situation that needed an answer and fast.

Morvale stepped back and swung the dagger outwards in a counter offensive technique that ripped into the monsters mouth tearing open it's cheek revealing its sinister maw. The dog snapped again unphased by the flesh wound latching onto his wrist his cloak providing some level of resistance to penetration but very little comfort against the blunt pressure.

He yanked back his arm the fabric tearing between its teeth, gashes and cuts lined he's free arm. But that beast to no avail would go down, maybe he was fighting it all wrong he thought.

That infernal thing seemed to relish in delight at his suffering. And it went in again for a third attack, as it lunged again. Morvales acrobatic talents came into play this time as he was hunkering down mentally. After witnessing what happened when he lost his focus, he could feel the pain beating but somehow it made him alert more aware of what was going on.

He understood how the beast moved he'd finally worked it out, and each lunge was parried by evasive foot work to keep him out of the freakish monsters mouth.

This time he waited, the creature lunged and the opening revealed itself. Morvale was going to strike the creature in the head with his dagger. He tightened his grip and thrusted forward his aim to stab the creature in the back of the skull. He felt a hard impact as the tip busted into bone and burrowed the length of the dagger into it, creature dipped and barreled over uprooting morvale and taking him for a ride as he landed into the sandy dirt.

He landed with a thud as a plume of sand and dust kicked up and draped overhim. The creature he'd been tangling with seemed to still be alive much to his utter disbelief, it was twitching and thrashing. Like something was keeping it going, but it couldn't stabalize itself on all fours.

Morvale figured if finesse and grace couldn't cut it, he felt his empty hand clutch a good sized rock as he picked himself up. It was unbelievable, a shear testament to the undeads fortitude. He put both hands on the rock now and pried it from the ground, as he bumbled towards the malfunction animation.

Looming over his adversary he dropped the rock on its face, that sound was a sickening crackle as the skull was crunched beneath the force and weight of the rock. It was finally over spastic twitching at first followed by submissive limpness in its hind quarters.

It was over finally, he had a twisted smile as his hand went for another dagger.

He didn't know what it was with him and skulls, he always tried to preserve them but he never got an oppurtunity to work with one long enough to finish a final product.

There was really no need to let this go to waste, he wanted monster bones well he got what he was looking for as his knife began to dig in and carve into it's corpse. Morvale dismantled the animation into chunks, then worked the meat off the bone trying to be carful not to destroy the something by accident. The larger bones were easiest to flat as the daggers edged skimed across shaving the last tid bits off. Each specimen he retrieved he put into his back pack.

He even removed the rock to get back his dagger, and while was there he tried to collected what was left of its teeth. Fishing for then in the loose sand, some were ok others just destroyed. He felt confident he'd dug up enough, he tossed th in the bag and made his way back to the citadel.

But the idea and potential for being undead loomed in his mind now. That animated animal could move fast and could react fast, there had to be a way for him succeed amongst the Nuit but maybe as something else. But what? He had no idea.

Gashes on his left arm from a monster dog that would be infected should Morvale let it be. If it's infected, it would only get worse and worse to the point of severe paralyzation of his muscles. If he treats it with someone with at least competent in Medicine, the gash would naturally heal in about 15 days. A mark 2 healer could fix it instantly.
