Gale's Tree
"Now, now Gale, don't think like that. You know your better than half the people out there." A young woman with brown braided hair helped tie the top of his shirt.
"That is because most people out there are learning how to teach, or to fish, or some sort of magic. They do not learn to draw." The blonde young man stood there patiently as she 'fixed him up' for today's sales. That is, if he is able to sell anything.
"And that's what makes you special, Gale. One of these days, people are going to be lining up to get a hold of one of your paintings." Hana tied a nice bow once she was done. "There you go."
With a playful roll of his eyes, Gale bent down and gave her a kiss, one in which she didn't have enough time to return before he pulled away and headed down the street. As fain as he was to know that Hana was inquisitorial for him to have a positive attitude about his situation, her efficacy wasn't as honed as he may have liked. It has been, what, a few dozen seasons now that he has met Hana's parents for the first time, and they still look at him with repugnance. They reviled him in no small amount and contumaciously constrain Hana to pick someone more capable of providing for her needs, which is completely unreasonable. He was more than capable of taking care of Hana. Has he not done so for all this time? Yes, he didn't like to bedizen himself with fine clothes, not to mention he couldn't afford to do such. But he still was perfectly capable of providing for their needs in any way. There was absolutely no need to look at him with reproof.
"Whatever you say Hana!" He called over his shoulder and waved his hand in the air teasingly.
"Oh Gale!" She laughed and stomped her small foot on the cobble stone street. "At least give them a smile!" She demanded.
The artist looked over his shoulder and gave a sarcastic grin, watching her giggle again before heading off to the fish market to start the day's work... Which he should have done a bell or so agone.
The plebeian nimbly made his way through the crowded street, occasionally cutting through the empty alleys, making his way towards the docks in which he would find the Fish Market. The Fish Market was typically a rambunctious place, bustling with people of all different shapes and sizes. The unified aroma of salt and fish almost overpowering. But it was a great place. The people of the Fish market were great people. Although their consecration was more than likely to fish out in the open seas, they were hard working people. Gale couldn't complain about that. Who could?
Upon entering the Fish Market, his green eyes set on the tree that was located on the opposing side of the market. Although it probably has been there since before the creation of the Fish market, Gale liked to think that it was Hana and his tree. For everyday for the longest time, they would meet there after their classes at the University were over. They would sit and talk under that tree. Whether it was raining or whether it was sunny, they would just sit there and talk. It was like a second home in a way. That is, if one could make a tree a home it would.
The Zeltivan set his leather bag on the ground at the tree's roots, which over the years had started to displace the rock road around it. His eyes scanned the branches in search for his sign, for Hana's parents absolutely refused to let him keep any of his stuff at there place. He couldn't even set his thing at their doorsteps without getting a lecture. So instead of getting yelled at every day until he got his own place, he decided to keep it there. The possibility of someone stealing the old sign has lingered in his thoughts numerous times, however it has yet to happen. Besides, who would want an old, weathered sign that says art for sale? Let alone, climb a tree to get it?
The artist jumped for the lowest branch, his pale fingers grazing the rough bark. He jumped again. Once again, he grazed it. With another leap, his hands grasped the branch. It bounced from his sudden weight, but eventually stilled as Gale used the trunk of the tree to 'walk' his feet to the branch. He found that much easier to do than to swing them up, considering he wasn't the strongest person in Zeltiva. Not that it wasn't hard though, for he couldn't count how many times his arms would give out when attempt to get up this way and he would fall, often times on his back. He would also tear his pants or shirt because they would get snagged and branches would break under his weight. He felt that sometimes the wind would push him out of the tree. But despite this, Gale continued to do so. He was extremely stubborn after all.
The artist pulled himself up on top of the first branch. Holding onto the nearest branch, he slowly stood up, unsure if it would hold his weight or if he could keep his balance. Once satisfied that it would, he cautiously made his way up the tree.
