Fulfilling the Request

54th of Fall, 513 AV

Syveris yawned, tired because of having to wake up earlier than she was used to. Fulfilling a request alone was more tiring than she had first thought, but she was glad to do it, anyway. Lavira had been a real help to her, and this was the least she could do.

Right after she had left the Mud Flats, Syveris had gone to the Baths to clean and then headed to Virat's room, so he could lend her a book that detailed the colours the compounds could achieve when mixed to glass. She found the tone that Lavira had asked, and had then taken the book to the Reverie, to find someone who could mix it to her. Syveris could have tried, but it was a different shade of green to what she was used, and the Avora knew that she wouldn't get the tone right. It had taken half a bell and the rest of the day spent in helping a more experienced glassworker before he finally was convinced to mix the compound for her.

The next day, she also spent on the Enclave, although she was so absorbed by the falconry book that she forgot the reason she had initially gone there. So, on the 52nd she had to go back, and ended up meeting someone she definitely didn't want to have met. Shaking her head, Syveris shoved the thoughts away once more. She wouldn't think of him.

On the end, she had found a Chiet who was thrilled to fulfil her request and copy the pictures of the vecerem to a paper she could take into the Reverie for consult if she needed it. And then, she had spent the next day sculpting the animal in discarded glass. At first, it had come out terrible, but as she kept trying, she managed to do a good print, so she was confident that the final print would come out alright.

And today was when the glassworker had told her she could use the glass. He would use some of it for his own piece, but assured her that would leave enough glass for her to work, even if she did a mistake or two and needed to start over.

Lost in her own thoughts, Syveris wasn't looking when she made an abrupt curve on the Inner Warrens, and she collided with someone who was going on the opposite direction, making her stumble backwards and fall on her butt.

Fulfilling the Request

If it wasn't for her tiredness, she would have just appologize, but she was already annoyed at nothing because of her early wake. She didn't exactly had to do it, but she didn't have the slightest idea of how long it would take for her to get the adornment right, so she supposed she would arrive earlier, just in case.

Nevertheless, she wasn't in her best mood, and so, she looked up, at the person she had bumped into, her face turning into an annoyed scowl when she saw the woman was a Dek. Syveris snarled at the extended hand, the thought of touching it disgusting in itself. The woman quickly withdrew her hand, and she fumbled with them, as if not knowing what to do.

"I'm sorry, miss! I didn't see you. I'm really sorry!" the words came out in whispers, and Syveris noticed she wasn't looking at her face. It angered her even more. Why Deks had to be such cowards all the time?

Getting up by herself, she shook the dust out of her bryda, and crossed her arms, eyeing the much shorter woman. The Avora supposed she could let go, just walk to the Reverie, as the incident would be soon forgotten. And yet, only looking at the woman averting her eyes made her anger rise again. Syveris was mostly careful not to hang around Deks too much, and if ever, not to even look at them. She was aware that she was easily annoyed by them, and she wasn't as cruel as to seek them actively just to pick on them. However, when one happened to get her attention, it was very difficult for her to ignore it.

"I sure hope you didn't see me. Otherwise you would have just bumped into me on purpose, wouldn't you?" her words weren't mean, but her tone let it clear that she was annoyed. After the words left her mouth, she realized that she had been the one to bump into the woman, but it didn't matter.

"I..." the Dek babbled, nervous and twisting her hands. "I didn't... I'm sorry." she finished, pathetically.

Syveris snarled again, staring straight to the woman's face, so she would be uncomfortable. Cowards. All of them were just cowards. Couldn't even say what they knew was true. Syveris hated it on every person, and in them, it just made the trait even more annoying.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry. Can't you say any other petching word?" she exclaimed, glaring at the other. "Such a petching coward, aren't you? Just say it: You were the one who bumped into me."

"But miss..."

"Just say it!" Syveris could see the discomfort in the other, to blame a higher caste for something, and the clear fear that she would be punished by it. Honestly, the Avora cared very little for this type of fear.

"You... You were the one who... bumped into me." the Dek finished the phrase weakly, her face desperated, as if now the Avora would have her head. Really, Dek were so pathetic sometimes.

"That's why you are all useless. All of you. You never try hard enough, because you're just cowards." she spat, angry, although she suspected her anger wasn't directed at the woman, exactly. It didn't matter, not right then. "Cowards to do anything by your own, but you have to do what others tell you, right?" Syveris smiled, but it wasn't comforting, as the woman began to tremble. "How about... How about I order you to jump on the Tomb of the Fallen? Would you do it, right now?"

The Dek paled, and Syveris saw that she truly believed she would give such an order. Not that someone would miss her, anyway. "Miss... I..."

"Would you?"

"... Yes." the woman answered, looking at the ground, her eyes watering. Syveris sighed.

"Yeah, great. Are you stupid or what? Don't do it. Don't jump." the woman raised her head, actually smiling. She was probably clipped. Shrugging, Syveris walked around her so she could continue her way to the Reverie. Just to be sure, though, she shouted back. "Do not jump." she hated them, alright, but she didn't want to be responsable for anyone's death.

However, the encounter still left her annoyed. Deks made her go back to her Yasihood, when she cared for none other than herself. It made her angry with herself and with the ones that caused it.

Syveris walked faster, focusing on the ground until she reached the Reverie, where she would be able to just forget about anything that had just happened. What was a Dek doing there, anyway? Well, she didn't care. It was none of her business, and the woman was probably following someone's orders, as they always seemed to be.

The Avora breathed, relieved, when she finally reached her destination. That was why she hated encounters with Deks. They always made her feel like an angry Yasi again, not really on control of herself. It wasn't good to feel that way.

Sighing, she shook her head and entered the Reverie. The Avora had to focus on her work now, otherwise nothing good would come out of it.

Fulfilling the Request

Syveris greeted her mentor with a nod, letting him work on his own piece. She had already told him that Lavira had asked for a glass adornment, and Virat allowed her to work on it. Looking for the glassworker who had mixed the glass for her, Syveris found him near the back of the Reverie.

He handed her a small stick of glass, sending her a look that said he was still annoyed at her being troublesome, but the Avora had already helped him enough to pay for his services, and so, she didn't worry too much.

The glass was slight lighter than Lavira's eye color, but it was very similar, and Syveris was satisfied with it. But getting the right shade was the easy part (specially since she had asked someone else to do it for her). Now, she had to create an adornment with it. She had thought of a glass bead in the form of a vecerem, leaving a space between the pawns so that it would be easy to place it on the earring and easy to get it off. There was another reason, too. Glass beads were something Syveris had done a lot on the beginning of her apprenticeship, and she was sure she could create something good with it. Maybe not great, but good.

Choosing a more empty space, she sat, organized the papers with the drawings and reached for a fire torch. She had asked Virat for one, and he managed to borrow it from another glasswork. Turning it on, Syveris made sure that it wasn't too hot. She had managed to ruin a lot of pieces before she learned the proper temperature to use the tourch. She knew she still wasn't an expert on it, but she trusted herself enough not to ruin a piece anymore.

She took a small blow pipe and heated the glass stick on the tourch, waiting a while before it finally started to melt. Approaching the pipe, she gathered the melted glass with its tip, turning it until she had a wide ring of glass around the pipe. She took a small ladle, placing the tip of the pipe with the glass inside it, and turning.

The glass soon became rounded, and she looked at it, wondering if she had enough skill to do what she wanted. Probably. Besides, there was no harm in trying. Taking the jack, Syveris started to pull and push the glass, working to shape it into a vecerem.

Her first mistake came when she pulled too hard, creating a big ear that was totally disproportional and impossible to just cut off without leaving a strange scar on the glass. Growling, she let the pipe rest on the worktable, taking another one to begin the process again. She would have to clean the pipes, depositing the ruined pieces on the waste barrel, but that could wait for later.

The second mistake was reversible. She pushed too hard this time, creating a cavity she was sure was not supposed to be there. She managed to cover it with more glass, which, in the end, didn't make much difference, since she ended up pulling too hard again.

That was why Syveris didn't enjoy doing small pieces. Large ones were always easier to correct mistakes and to avoid such mistakes, and it allowed for more details, even at her level of experience. However, it would be impossible to adorn an earring with a big piece, so Syveris sighed, and focused on her task once again. Maybe this time she would do it slightly bigger.

It worked, after a few more tentatives, and she managed to finally finish the sculpting without more terrible mistakes. She eyed the finished piece. The vecerem was a bit crude, but it was clearly a vecerem, and it wasn't bad. She would take it to Lavira's Aeries once it finished cooling, and, if the Endal didn't like it, she could always ask for another one, although she would have to ask for the glassworker to mix the glass again, since she had already used almost all the stick he had provided her with.

Placing the piece in the Annealer, Syveris took the other pipes and took the glass off them, putting the remains in the waste barrel. The Avora was tired, having spent most of her day in the Reverie, forgetting to eat. She was hungry, obviously, so she quickly tied everything up and walked away, hoping there was a very good piece of meat on the day's dinner.

LORES :
  • Intimidation: Bullying a Dek
  • Glassworking: Use of the fire torch
  • Glassworking: How to make a vecerem adornment

Notes:
Not a lot of glassworking in that thread but some definite intimidation where the Dek was concerned. I didn’t give you high points in glassworking because you didn’t write a lot on it and some of it was basic for Syveris like making the beads. The only hard part was making the vecerem which I gave points for.
