The dark was a thing that most children, even adults, feared, they feared what they did not see, hear or even notice. The things that lurked amongst the shadows were the creatures made from the nightmares. At least they were in Nyka, beasts of the aperture, lurking around streets during the nights, scaring the residents into their warm safe houses. Assilsa’s boots echoed through the empty hall, she was the only one, most nights, who would sit through the duration of the night watching the horrific monsters wander the streets she wished she could.

Making her way towards the common room of the hostel Assilsa had stopped at Syn Syn’s room and slipped a large dried leaf of the brightest of oranges. She had taken her time writing carefully and neatly. A small note for her wonderful partner, In the elegant scrawl Assilsa had written;

The most beautiful snake in existence,
Would you care to join me in the common room tonight?
If you wake up to find this note, do not feel bad.
For I will know that the sun has touched something as beautiful as you.
However I do have a present for you, so we will need to meet.

The present was a sliver necklace, that shone bright in the morning light, with a simple silver ring that hung off it. To this moment Assilsa still didn’t know why she had gotten the gift and why those things, when she could have gotten something more practical for her beautiful snake. Assilsa shook her head, the more she thought about it the more nervous she would get about handing it over to Save, slowly pausing by a window Assilsa looked out into the gloomy night. The night was as predicted, filled with terrible beasts that would soon disappear before sun up, as if they were never there in the first place.

What The Night Claims, The Night will take[Bliss]

Fall, 59, 513

It was an ordinary day for Bliss, who had just recently started visiting the Wizard's Thumb. It was there that she studied and practiced Alchemy, as it was the only place in Nyka which facilitated the necessary tools and supplies. Like any other day, she arrived early in the morning wearing her usual attire; silk hood, large draping coat and wooden chopines. No one ever questioned why she wore a mask almost always, as most people were content to avoid the thumb and its inhabitants completely. She was just another stranger in another strange land.

When Bliss arrived to this fascinating tower on the fifty-ninth, the first thing she did was immediately head to the library to browse for relevant topics. She was always seeking to broaden her horizons intellectually and discover new alchemy quirks. Unlike most, she had been taught a bit of the ancient tongue when she was still young and was able to comprehend texts based on this archaic language. In fact, for days she had been hunting for particular texts. She discovered that one such text existed in Nyka, and she had been trying to find its whereabouts for weeks. One of the monks had apparently beaten her to the punch and while it was far from an original copy, she was intent on reading it for herself.

There was a very small window of opportunity to which Bliss could gain access to the book. She already spent days figuring out where it came from and who bought it. The short time between the day and night hours was the only plausible time to confront a monk of Nyka in its very streets. When the afternoon came, she left the thumb following him like a shadow. The activity of locals finishing their daily tasks and returning home generated more than enough a distraction to conceal her, even as much as she stood out. Focused only on her goal, her sense of time seemed to dissipate like the dwindling light of dusk. Her path lead her sprawling through city streets, down tucked away corridors and even over a bridge. Were they onto her? No, she thought, it was incredibly unlikely and they would have simply confronted her by now.

Down her path, Bliss passed a familiar place. The Safe Haven Hostel was probably the only place a person could find cheap food and lodging. There were no traditional inns and food was not marketable. It, along with the thumb, had been Bliss' home for as long as she'd been in the city. The night was creeping in, and as she passed, she stopped for a moment to peer through the window to the commons. Her head turned stoically to the right with a single image of a woman slipping through the slits of her mask. Just as quick as their eyes would have met, Bliss disappeared into the distance.

Before she knew it, night was already upon the city. Everything was dark and her mark had already slipped out of her grasp. No book.... Even though she didn't know it, she had bigger problems to face. Bliss suddenly found herself in a whole new world, a world of darkness and twisting silhouettes around every corner. She was in a small courtyard now, well enough lit by the light of the moon to make out the surroundings but eerie enough to be caught off guard in hindsight. Two small glistening blips suddenly appeared before her, stealing her attention. They drew closer with the echoes of muffled growling and yipping. Finally, the single beastly figure appeared past the shadows into the moonlight. She simply stared into its eyes for a moment, not making a single quiver. Then suddenly, she sighed, and snapped. With a backward flick of her wrist, her fingertips caught onto the handles of the push knives sheathed up her sleeve. She didn't have any real practice with the blade before, but one good flick was all it took to send it spiraling on a course for the creature. Without even looking back to see where it landed, she took off into the night. This lonely Marrow Dog gave pursuit.

Bliss retraced her steps hastily back the way she came. A full transformation of limb to some sort of weapon would take too long, by then she knew she'd be overrun. The hostel was her best and only chance of escape, or a challenging fight to the death. Down the street that lead straight to its doors, she ran, her cobalt and gray colored silk jacket and burlap cloak trailing behind her.

A few more yards... only a few more yards and sanctuary would be within her reach. Unfortunately her strides in a straight line made for an easy picking, and the beast caught up with ease. She simply had no choice. Bliss was mere feet away from the windows to the hostel when she turned to make her stand and repel the creature. Her hand was already beginning to take the form of a shoddy bone blade by the time she reached this point, so in a quick offensive she recoiled her torso and gave a huge diagonal uppercut with her arm. It flipped the pouncing beast backward, dripping blood between the webbed heap in the blade that was her fingers and bought her a few seconds to ready herself. Once more, her eyes drifted back to that same window frame where a familiar face resided; it was the one she had seen earlier that afternoon. In this momentary distraction time seemed to almost slow down. It was an unwelcomed break, for one dog just became became two.

OOCSorry if I didn't play completely true to something about the city. I'm new to Nykan lore! <-----

For the time that her garnet speckled eyes scanned the outside of the Hostel. The Darkness took a while to adjust so that Assilsa could see with the pale light that she was used to, how she wished she could hunt out there. In the pale moon light, feeling its shine caressing her pale skin and eyes, the night could be kind to Assilsa in any other town but this one, this night could kill.
That’s when something moved, a beastly creature, teeth that could tear a hole even in the toughest of metals. Their skin seemed to glow within the pale light, beady eyes challenging even death itself. The breath caught in her throat slight a Marrow Dog, the lurker of night.

A pale figure dashed past the window drawing the attention of the beastly dog. The figure was done for… The Marrow dog would catch up and rip, what Assilsa assumed was a person to shreds, biting her lip Assilsa couldn’t stop the fight of her conscience, she couldn’t leave this poor person alone for his death. Scratching the frame of the window Assilsa attempted to find the way to open the window.

Eventually Assilsa lifted the window a small amount and the cold air rushed at her, causing her skin to come up in a goosebumps and a shiver to run up her spine. Using all the upper arm strength she had Assilsa pushed the window further up and stuck her head out into the cool night.

This gave her another view of the horrible chase, the ‘man’ was in fact what looked like a fragile young girl. Assilsa’s mouth opened wide and she gapped… Assilsa could possibly let her die, The girl reminded Assilsa so much of herself in Ravok. Ducking quickly back into the hostel Assilsa looked for anyone who could possibly help her. No one was around to save the poor girl, no one cared.

Rushing through the hall Assilsa, without thinking, bolted out the door with a speed only Adeline could achieve. As the door opened the cold air brushed over her white skin, without pause Assilsa rushed into the streets reaching for the girl to hold her in her arms, however as she was in the street the girl ran past her leaving Assilsa to face the Marrow dog.

Reaching down Assilsa uncoiled the Lash from her thigh and as it clattered to the cold ground Assilsa could almost see her own demise. A low growl escaped the dogs ghastly mouth, with one movement Assilsa flicked her whip wishing for it collide with its face.

Bliss could feel the warmth of blood trickling down the clotted mess of flesh that her hand was. It sent a small jolt up her spine as a rush of cold air filled her lungs. Under her mask, if only for a moment, she cracked a slight smirk. Then suddenly, a figure approached from her right flank. At a quick glance, it looked like a small figure, most likely an adolescent. They were slender, had long limbs unlike the rough and tumble Nykans she usually saw. With her slightest observation, she nearly deduced them as something more than human. The figure appeared as if they meant to reach out for Bliss. They had missed by quite a margin, but they turned to face the beast that had just joined the fray. A whip quickly unraveled from the figures hand and cracked somewhere against the dog. You're only going to nudge it on, she thought to herself.

Bliss' back never faced any of the dogs from the moment she made her first strike. She knew too well that it was beyond the point of no return for them. The situation changed greatly from the moment the other girl entered the scene. With a large gnarl, the dog who had previously just been whipped at went on the charge. Bliss quickly huffed and pushed the girl to the side with a swift shoulder butt.

Bliss raised her arm straight out, nervously hoping to spearhead the dog. It twisted to the side with such ferocity and speed, she barely had any time to counterattack. She grabbed onto the side of its head, pushing it sideways toward the ground while trying to take a stab at its side. Before Bliss could really begin to dig her morphed blade into its gut, the marrow dog she had wounded earlier came back in full force and pounced on her left shoulder. She grunted as the force of its momentum through the air pushed her to the ground beside the girl who had ran out on her earlier. Her upper left arm had a considerable scratch on it, and while not life threatening it caused her a great deal of pain and discomfort. She could feel her skin tingle with a sensation of awkward pleasure. The wound did not cause her grief. Instead, it gave her goosebumps. "You're dead," she mumbled cockily under her breath, climbing to her feet while flinging the clawing marrow dog off of her. "Get up, girl!" she yelled.
