OOCA mistake or two would be good Turrin. Damaging the hide by making the arrow hole bigger might be good. You'll have to be penalised for meta gaming otherwise. He shouldn't be too good remember.
Master Harif carefully oversaw the youth's work. The boy followed his instructions and his demonstration as accurately as he could but it was only by doing it himself that he could understand just how difficult this particular skinning method could be. It looked easier than it was. Watching it done could not allow one to feel the resistance as the knife cut through or to feel the way the hide clung when one tried to remove it. Turrin was learning the right way and he was learning the knowledge in an environment without pressure. It was better for him to learn now then to have to learn out in the field. The master was pleased by how well the boy was doing. He seemed to be doing too well in fact. He had damaged the previous hide but even so the damage hadn't been too severe.
The half-Myrian hadn't damaged the latest skin yet but there was still time, he might easily rip it around the arrow hole and the hunter would almost expect it. He was only a novice at this sort of thing after all so it wasn't as if it was going to turn out perfect. He'd give him the benefit of the doubt however as the youth could end up surprising him. The master was temporarily distracted by the boy's question and he sought about laying out the options to him.
"Well, there are a number of ways to do it. If you want to tan the hide then it's possible to do it with the animal's brains. Believe it or not, animals usually have just the right amount of brains to tan their own hides. You just need to boil them in water and smear what you get all over it. Then you can hang it up and smoke it over a fire. Drying it out will work so you can do that with salt or you can just smoke it immediately. I've known some people to use clay to dry it out but I'm not so sure about that. If all else fails though, you can pick up tanning materials in the market. Hunters have them, they aren't too hard to find. Does that answer your question?"
