Looking for a place to start

"As an Assassin, my character is a gun for hire, and am wary of placing myself in a city where I am of no use. Or in a city to tightly defended for a new adventurer to survive for long.
I am willing to offer my services to any team, syndicate, criminal orginization or teacher who is willing to help me survive this world outside the lairs of my characters home city.

I'd like to meet up with you sometimes.

Looking for a place to start

Syliras is NOT good for assassins. I keep telling you wanna-be assassin types this. The entire city is controlled by a group of Knights that built the city and there are no castes that allow people the luxury of sitting back and hiring people out to be killed. They execute people who do something stupid. Humans live in Syliras by the grace of the Syliran Knights because the whole city is made up of about one huge building - Stormhold the Syliran fortress. Why don't assassins work? People don't have a lot of money. They don't have a lot of gripes. They are GRATEFUL to have a place to live where big bad things don't eat them. There aren't even any merchant kings/queens. In fact, there are VERY FEW places in Mizahar that are in fact good for assassins, except maybe down south with the Eypharians.

This is especially true for starter characters that don't have a lot of points in anything remotely assassin like. While I appreciate the fact you guys want to play 'assassins', I think they are built up over time not created out of the box in a post apocalyptic world where there are in fact no nobles and very few politics. And then they are ONLY built in the right circumstances.

I'd like to know exactly, Nyahna, who's going to hire out all these assassin groups that you keep trying to form that keep falling apart five minutes later when everyone disappears whom you recruit - yourself included?

What's up with the name? Cicero was a famous Roman orator, and we try to avoid those wildly popular RL names.

We would prefer a more suitable name for Mizahar. Thanks.

"And as a new player how am I to know that? You have quite a lot of information, but I could not find recommended classes. As for skills, I had to work with what minimal information I had from your sheet and go in a general direction."

Sighs.

"It is shocking that within one post, I am met with hostility instead of a simple explanation about my name, and career choice. Especially when you promote yourself as being so considerate to the newer players."

"Perhaps next time instead of publicly criticizing me you could contact me via PM to inform me of problems and provide me with better examples?"

Looking for a place to start

Cicero-

My response was in regards to Nyahna's post about Syliras being appropriate for assassins. It is not. She has repeatedly tried to recruit 'assassins' for Syliras and then disappears before doing anything with newly formed groups. This has happened twice, even though I have explained over and over again (and there are large wiki articles) on the nature of Syliras. Would you rather be yet another abandoned recruit or would you instead like to be told about the nature of the city you were suggested to play in? Either way, you learn something. One is a little bit more helpful than the other though and saves you a ton of work only to sit and be waiting for posts that don't come.

We expect people to have read the wiki about theme and game itself - you did not find any recommended classes because as you might have seen based on other CS's or even the CS template there are no classes. None. We are not D&D. We are not WOW. Mizahar is not a 'class-based game'. It is a writer's RPG. There are no wizards, rogues, warriors, etc as per say. Everyone, as in real life, has a broad mix of skills and magics. We don't expect you to know this, which is why we are explaining that assassins have no real place in Syliras or in the game.

We also expect that you have read the Rules and Terms of Use which clearly outline the naming policy. Cayenne was simply pointing out that famous names as in gods etc are frowned upon and you will be asked to change it.

It has been my experience that publicly pointing things out educates not only the playerbase but other new people who might read this thread and think Syliras is a good place to start their own 'assassins' in. In the long run, while you might think you are being critiqued harshly (which you are not), it saves us time and effort by responding this way.

And in fact... I got a few 'amen sister!' from folks that cringed as much as I did to see Syliras yet again be advertised as a place for bad guys to go - a place they will likely get executed in the street the first time they make a mistake...a nd with skills that newbies have... mistakes will be made.

Regards.

Let me second the fact that neither Goss nor Cay were trying to be harsh, or call you out, or anything like that. Goss was once the mod of Syliras, and it just frustrates her to see people have the wrong idea of the city. Best to get it pointed out to you before you get deeply involved, yes? She just wants to guide you in the right direction, so you can be added to her list of favorite Syliras occupants.

By no means do you have to scrap your idea. I can offer you various ideas for an assassin theme that would work in Syliras. None of them are so up front as forming a group, as that is near impossible. By all means, PM me if you are interested. I have an idea that even involves my character! <33

Don't get me wrong, though. Sy is not a good place for an assassin. But if you are bent on it, I think it is possible. Just perhaps not the way most people inenvision.

Please don't misunderstand, I am not bent on anything, and I understand that the options are limitless, but to than hear that assassins don't work almost at all. Is slightly more disconcerting. I don't mind scrapping a whole character to further a story, I don't mind killing it in the first role-play. (TPK's rock :p ) I just want to know that such things are not expected or that suggestions are given.

Also if there are a list of character types that require Mod approval, or you should speak to an ST/mod before creating said character or contacting an ST so that they I can get more help rounding said character out.

On a side note does my species ride giant spiders instead of horses? |:) Just checkin.

Ah, well thank you for pointing that out. Do not let me assume anything about you, sir! I know you weren't bent on Syliras, but you did seem eager to get an assassin type out there. This one would not want you to lose hope. <3

It isn't completely impossible, per say. Just rather unlikely. The amount of skills you start with aren't really enough to make an effective assassin, although maybe one in training...

As for character types, not really. If in doubt, feel free to post at the Help Desk, or ask a ST. Some races require special permission, as stated in the Wiki... And all Gnosis do, but that is a different story...

And spider mount? Oh, Lordy. xD

Apologies, but giant spiders don't exist due to their lungs. Assuming their structure was modified to support themselves so as not to collapse (square-cube law), the fact their lungs don't scale properly would kill them.

Sorry, no spider mounts. You can buy a horse though. :)
