45th day of Summer 493 th AV 11th Bell 18th chime

He was just a young man at the time, perhaps the age of 16, standing at 5'7" he had yet reached his prime height. His hair was much larger than it was formerly, the dirty blond hair was like a great mane similar to that of a lion. He wore a sleeveless white shirt , gray trousers and old boots, constant wear having worn out the soles. The weather was unbearably hot but there was no rest for the wicked, especially in Sunberth where the wicked make their home. The young brawler was, at the time, a dockhand. He was one of the many simple laborers that tried to itch out a hard living simply to survive, not only for himself, but for his mother whose health is failing her.

As mentioned previously, the weather was unbearably hot this day as he and some other bloke carried a hefty rectangular crate from off the ship, he from behind with his fingers grasping the edges of the damnable thing from the bottom while the bloke carried it from the other side on his back. Kreig wondered what the contents were to make this petched thing so heavy but didn't ask the ship's captain what it was, knowing that it was most likely some stolen plunder from a trade ship Or just say it wasn't even my petching business like the stingy bastard he was The captain of this ship was no stranger to Kreig, at least job wise that is, every 30 to 60 days he'd be back at the docks after a period of sailing Laviku's waters, either to stock up, drop off some cargo or both.

The captain was at the helm of the ship, looking down upon Kreig and the other dock hands while his sailors kept yakking at them to move quicker. After dropping off the crate near the warehouse, he and the other man quickly made their way back to ship to continue with the process of bringing down the cargo from the sloop ship. As they boarded the ship again through the use of the ramp, Kreig noted something that had been itching his brain Didn't the bastard have more men than this?

Indeed, the captain was a successful individual in his illicit trade. He could have easily afforded a full crew and indeed had a full crew, yet this time it seems he had much less. Kreig's eyes wandered about as he approached the next bit of cargo, a single barrel that he could carry on his back Though I'm going to regret that.... He thought gloomily as he turned his back to it and crouched down on his knees, moving his arms back and around the barrel. He tilted it forward on his back while his fingers quickly made their beneath its rim and lifted the heavy thing "Ooooooff" The damnable thing was just as heavy as the crate, he didn't know what its contents were but it could have been some extra provisions the lot didn't need or 'liberated' from another crew. Kreig eyes roamed once more before moving forward with the barrel and mentally took some more notes The bloody ship is damaged More than it should be in fact.

Parts of the deck seemed to be covered in dry blood; some of the floor boards were broken in twine as well and if he Kreig would borther to lift his head, he'd have noticed the furled up sail was slightly loose. The obvious conclusion was that these bastards must have had a rough battle despite their haul This is worriesome.... The captain could very well be looking for more crew members.... and some of them didn't have to be willing at all. Kreig decided it was best to get this done quick as he walked down the ramp with the barrel in tow, quickly dropping it off to the warehouse Best stay out of the Drunken Sailor too if its what I think it is...huh?

Kreig suddenly saw that the earth was coming up to him before the world turned pitch black....It was exactly as he thought.

-Two bells later-

"Ohhhh, me head..." Groaned the brawler as he slowly awoke, his eyes blurry to his surroundings as he slowly lifted himself up from the wooden floor, the damp and murky smell assaulting his nostrils. "Peeetch...." His hand reached forthe back of his head, feeling the bruise that had formed from the surprise blow that caused him to be here. His vision slowly adjusted as the brawler realised he was in a rather drak room, with the only source of light creeping through the crack at the bottom of the door.

"Mother's going to have a bloody panic with this shyke....." Thought the brawler as he decided to sit in a corner of the room, as his eyes further adjusted to the darkness he saw that the room was absolutely bare..... no furniture and no chains surprisingly "Odd, you would think they would chain their prisoner up" That's when he realised they didn't really need to as he looked at the crack beneath the door, it was big enough to slip in a plate of food but obviously not for any human to fit..... The fact they slipped a plate through it helped tremoundously for the brawler to reach such a deduction.

If it weren't enough, his petching stomach began to growl. Hesitantly Kreig approached the plate, grasping the worn wooden spoon as he bent down as he picked the plate up. He poked at the food and winced I'm disgust, it had a putrid smell to it They expect me to eat this shyke? The Sun's Birth wouldn't feed me this as a punishment He couldn't tell if it was rotten meat or vegetables that used to convoy this muk.

The plate itself was made of metal and was slightly broken at the edge of one of its rims. Feeling quite annoyed, he tossed the putrid thing towards the opposite corner of the room, not wishing to be even near as returned to the corner he sat. No point in banging on the door, likely they'd just tell me to shut up Kreig assessed, only reason they had to enter is to confirm what he already thought; He was being press ganged, but why so soon? Had they noticed him having suspicions? Even then they could have waited till they decided to come after him. Did they have to depart quickly maybe? No, with the amount of time they'd been gone at sea, they'd need some shore leave and time to restock their pantries.... Including to restore their numbers.

Maybe they were trying to break him ? Keep me locked up long enough that I'd agree to anything to be let out Still... that would only be if they sat out to sea, which could be till the end of the season or near it. He couldn't think of anything really that would make sense. Slowly, he closed his eyes and simply let sleepover take him....He'd find out later.

" Wake up you dog!" Came the raspy voice as it's owner suddenly kicked Kreig in the stomach, the Brawler gasped a se suddenly grasped his stomach, now fully awake thanks to this vagik shyke " The Cap'n wants ta have a cut with you " Kreig looked up as he saw the two figures before him, the room was brighter now as one of the Vagik's held a lantern while he stood behind his captain. The captain was an ugly sort, the sea having left its mark on the man...

He stood at 6'3" dwarfing the two men who accompanied him. His hair was long gone as he could see the scars decorating his scalp and he could see a large gash over his left one. He wore a velvet coat over a white shirt, white breeches and rather fancy black dress boots. Hanging by his waist was a rather fine looking scimitar, contrasting greatly with its master's appearance.

" Do forgive my lack of hospitality, I am afraid I can't afford to be at this time " His accent was rather clear and eloquent, it felt like another contrast to the pirate captain's rather rough and tumble appearance " With the current state of my crew, I'm in dire need of fresh blood to keep up our numbers"

"Most people would wait till the end of their shore leave to press gang someone, why now?"

" Oh now don't play coy lad, I noticed your face turning suspicious, your not good at hiding your emotions. You're a fine catch lad, you seem to be known as a bit of a scrapper around the city and I need a dog like you to supplement my crew....

"Fancy me that much, do ya? Well why don't get closer so I can plant a big fat one on your lips?" Kreig growled, he didn't dare make a move despite the threat he issued, especially since one of the petchers had a harpoon pointed mighty close to Kreig's neck.

" I admire your spirit lad, truly I do. Sadly, I must break it... and since you refused the meal we generously provided..." He waved a hand towards the corner where Kreig tower that so called meal "....We'll have to see how hungry a dog like you can go without meals for perhaps....the next three days? In the dark, alone with no one to speak to"

' Well petch, so that's the game they're going to play, eh? The captain politely bowed as he turned and stepped out of the room, his men following behind with the harpoon man backing away slowly....his weapon still pointed at Kreig as he stepped out of the room, slamming it loudly behind them as they left him in darkness, soon pitch black as he heard another door slam and all trace of light disappeared....

"Well,,,,this is a dillemmma......Ninenty nine bottles of beer on the wall" By the gods No!

"....Well bloody shyke, I don't know the rest of the lyrics" Oh thank the gods for that! Kreig stood up and continued to lean on on the wall "How the bloody shyke will I get out of this dillema" He thought aloud to himself as his eyes slowly began to adjust to the darkness ' I gotta find a way out of this....Petch those bastards, thinking they can make a Pirate' Kreig wasn't some lowlife! He HAS morals for Dira's sake! There no peching way he was going to steal other's lively hood and commit other unsavoury stuff. He only killed in self defence or when the other party knew the risks, and in all cases for the latter it was all un-intentional.

"....Pitch this lot, it looks like I'll have to do a lot of killing if I wanna get out of here. Just have to find a way out first"He reminded himself of that fact, three days they want him to stew in this rotten place and expect him to be their lapdog by the end of it?! As soon as his eyes adjusted fully to the darkness, Kreig took careful steps through the dark room Not like I'll trip over anything here... He made his way to the heavy wooden door that was his gateway to freedom, his hand ran against the frame checking to see just how thick it was.

He moved his hand below the crack, his hand running against the cracked rim. He moved it back up and grasped for the metal ring that served as the knob, its metal cool against his fingers. Again he moved his fingered to the opposite direction of the knob, searching for the hinges "....Eureka" exclaimed the brawler as he found them, their rusty feel giving him hope of escape. He took a couple of small steps back as he raised his right foot, launching it forward as the sole of his boot connected with the bottom hinge.

It did nothing, Kreig noted, but he didn't expect it to break so easily. The problem also came in the form of hunger, his body yearned for food and while it was still a tad slight, it would soon grow larger as he attempted once more to break it.

He hoped that due to the heavy size of the door, breaking the lower hinge would put a strain on the upper one and also stress the lock as it would find itself suddenly supporting the weight of the door as well while it is locked. He struck again and again.... over and over until the hinge started to wiggle just a bit. He was tired now and was quite hungry as he slumped against the door, sweat dripped from his brow while his stomach let out a loud grumble "Peeeetch.....gotta break this soon..." With the energy he was expending, those three days could very well be his last. The thought was amusing, because even if he does not succeed in escaping....He'll at least leave them his decomposing corpse as a present Rather not be dead yet! He thought to himself as he kicked at the door hinge again.

...He wasn't going to be some damn forced employee.

Arrr- PETCH THIS I AIN'T GOING OUT TO SEA!

Kreig struck again and again at the bottom joints, trying to loosen the door and add weight to the upper joints. His legs were sore and tired, his stomach growled in protest like a bear not wishing to be stirred from its slumber, but what choice did Kreig have? He certainly didn't wish to spend three days starving and then be forced to join the pirates who had taken him captive, and he still had his mother to think about ' Rather Dira take me now than abandon her!'

It had been three bells perhaps, it was it five? So soon his sense of time had dulled in the isolation brought on by being stuck in this room. If he thought about it, it wasn't a proper cell, just some storage area they had cleared out in order to use as makeshift holding area.... a place where no light where they don't have to listen to his voice. If it were a storage area of sorts them there had even more supplies on the other side Weapons maybe? Like he had much use for those Food...there has to be It was a likely possibility, a small, but likely one. He did help lower the supplies from the ship, it was possible that it was bare empty.

Still, he didn't let that deter him as he continued kicking at the joints. It was weakening , slowly but surely....slowly but surely. He could hear the cracking of the wood, the dull creak of rusted metal slowly detaching. It gave him hope, yet at the same time reminded him of how he was weakening....would he have the energy to escape? would he be able to fight against his captors? He wish he didn't have such thoughts, but with his breath becoming ragged and hunger assaulting his stomach, he simply couldn't. Just a little more... He told himself Just a tad Kreig you arse!.

Suddenly, the lower joint broke free....a load crack of the wood holding it breaking.Kreig stood back and looked at the door. Suddenly the door dropped on one end, snapping the other joint from the wood due to the doors enormous weight. It teetered a bit at odd angles, its lock still closed. Finally, just as oddly as it teetered, it fell forward inside the rppm with a loud, deafening CRASH. Kreig grinned widely to himself at his own handy work... but then frowned in realisation as his stomach gave him a gentle reminder in the form of growling really loudly "Well....Shyke."

He didn't have time to waste, they'd have to be abso-petching-lutely deaf not to hear the around. Kreig left the bloody rooms with what energy he had left, he was still in a dark room, that much was bloody certain... but his eyes had long adapted to the darkness to see what treasures it held ' Absolute junk!![' His eyes could see the vague forms of rusted weapons, plenty of empty barrels and ammunition for Ballistas. But not a morsel of food was to be found...indeed, whatever they had of real value, at least to the bawler's stomach, had long been removed from the ship. He couldn't see what served as a kitchen or wherever they made that wretched concotion they passed off as food, but he could see what resembled a celler door, a path to freedom... and it opened.

The light of a lantern could be clearly seen as the door was open, its light creeping down the stairs as a figure stepped down the celler steps with a club in its free hand. Kreig, knowing what's to come, hid behind one of the group of barrels away from the fallen door. Once the figure made its final descent, the light of his lantern luminating his figure for Kreig clearly enough to see him, he made a loud curse.

" Petch, petch...petch! The man was a slobby looking sort, his hair was a ragged mess and his bed even more so. His weight indicated he had far too many pies and sweets as his flabby gut could be seen by all, along with his body hair. With each hurried step Kreig could the wooden floorboards creakin due to the weigh of the man. He had a putrid stench that made Kreig want to vomit and thus thankful for not having ate anything, it was so putrid and gaseous that Kreig was certain that he could see the flam of the flanter flicker wildly as it was carried.

The fat bastard looked around with a furious face on his wretched features " alright you vagiks..." He said in a gruff voice, he sounded like he had a bit of form stuck in the back of his throat as he wiped his nose on one of his arms " I know you're here, no way you could have sneaked past me... The door upstairs is locked and I've the key on me right here" He waved his clightlyto his waiste, a small key dangling on a piece of string.

Kreig had no problem with that, he'd have to kill the man...but otherwise, it would be no trouble at all.

Jermaine Thill, that was the name he was given by his dear ma and da, that was the name his soul went by whenever it prayed to the gods for salvation of his soul. But to his crewmates...to his crewmates he was Jermy, A fat slobby kooking bastard with a stench that would make the undead gasp in disgust. He was fat, but he was also big and strong, he didn't fear anyone but his captain...and his captain was an especially scary man.

As he held his club in his right, his lantern hanging in the opposite, his eyes roamed in search for the blasted youth who escaped the isolation. He was sure he wasn't hiding in the room they kept him in, and he still had the key to the upper area so he was damned sure that the petcher wasn't capable of sneaking past him to go there.

Him, and perhaps four others, were the only ones left on the entire ship while the rest along with the captain went out about the town, mainly to kill time and more importantly...to scout for proper men to join the crew.

He needed to subdue the lad as soon as he found him. his only major concern as he crept around slowly. Kreig , not daring to reveal himself so soon, simply kept hiding behind the barrels, hoping his body kept itself still from any mivement as to not emit a sound that would betray his location to the fat man.

He simply needed him to get closer,he didn't have proper energy for a straight up fight... what he needed was the elemt of surprise, catch the vagik off balance then crush him like a bug.... a fat, disgusting smelling, bug. The fat bastard crept closer now, the light sjining through the cracks beteen the barrels and into Kreig's eyes. He still wasn't close enough for Kreig's liking.... and he wanted him to be fairly close, closer still if there was a clothese pin he could put on his nose.

Jermain took cautious steps, he knew that he should expect something, painfully obvious it was. The petching lad would try to jump at him, sure as sure can be. The problem came was that even if he expected it, that still left half the surprise. What would he do? Would he use one of the shyke weapons lying about to try and do him in? Would he throw a crate at him? Would he just outright comeout and punch him? Jermain mumbled a silent pray to whichever god that had the kindness to listen to his forsaken soul, he was afraid of no man but his captain...but he was certainly afraid of death.

Oh he wished he had his axe with him, not this petchimg club, what left their crew in disarray also left them losing plenty of their weapons and it was only by Laviku's mercy were they allowed to sail back to Sunberth still alive. As he crept upon the barrels closer and closer, his heart began to beat faster, so fast he feared that it may burst out of his chest... .but it was something else that bursted out and it wasn't his heart but the lad out of hidinig.

Will the Dog prevail? or will the deadly stench put the Dog to sleep?
