This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]

2cnd day of Winter, 513 AV, Morning "Now...I need to get a bow...some arrows...maybe two hundred to last the season...I need some snares...small animal should be enough to catch a few rabbits...and something to carry it all in of course." He muttered the list to himself as he mulled it over in his head. He needed supplies this season. He would bring honor to his hold by becoming a hunter this season. He had one hundred gold mizas and every one of them would be used to get him more mizas. His shopping list was a veritable hunters delight in terms of getting him started in the field. The wind was harsh and cold as he opened the door, so much so that he quickly closed it. Unlike most Vantha who received a gnosis mark of Ice Reaving from their Goddess Morwen, he never recieved that opportunity. He was orphaned as a child and never got the chance to obtain the treasured mark as he was born and raised in Wind Reach until he was ten. Most Vantha get their mark very early as a child. As such, Kavak never could stand the harsh winters of Avanthal as much as his brother and sister Vantha. It was a fact that made it hard to be out in the wilds for long.
After donning his coat he ventured out into the snow laden city. Around the Frostfawn hold the only market that really mattered was the menagerie because you could sell animals there and as everyone knows, the Frostfawns loved their animals. In fact, to the Frostfawns they weren't animals, they were family. However, he had heard of a market recently that sold a variety of things and welcomed foreign trade. He thought for a moment and the name came to him, the Frozen Falls Market. It had an odd name but if it could get him the goods he needed, who cared? The only problem would be that he never could find his way around the city. He would have to ask someone where the falls market was. He quickly stopped a younger male Vantha who was strolling around the Frostfawn Hold and the teenaged Vantha gave him some simple right and left directions to the elusive market...or elusive to Kavak anyway. Kavak made his way down the snowy Avanthalian streets muttering to himself like a mad mn the young Vantha's directions. |

The market was full of people, so much so that getting through the pathway was slow going. The air had a sickly sweet smell to it and when Kavak turned his head he saw the cause. A Winterflame was tending a grill of some manor of meat and putting a ton of spices and delicious looking glazes on it. There were also foreign traders there. He could tell by their strange languages and accents. There was a blue skinned male there and an odd person with a seals tail and butterfly wings. . There were a ton of merchants there too. Crys of "Expensive short swords for sale" and "Priceless shoes from across the world...only 10 gold mizas." Kavak rolled his eyes and muttered "I thought they were priceless." This was certianly a boisterous place and all manor of wares were being sold. Short swords, bread, shoes, pottery. Anything one could name was around him. A winged figure shoved him aside as he was admiring the odd arrangement of wares in the many stalls, this one with legs. He found it incredibly rude but decided he wasn't here to cause trouble...at least not today.
A stand finally caught the Vantha's eye. It was a stand to sell backpacks for wilderness survival and rucksacks and all manor of waterskins and body packs. He picked up one of the backpacks and found it made of leather with some form of fur covering it. "Ah...it is a very good pack you've got there. Very fine make." Kavak smirked to himself and decided he would try to get the price of this backpack down some. "I don't know...I could get a better one from elsewhere." The woman frowned and shook her head "Then go elsewhere" She said, her white hair tossing as she turned his back on him. "no no wait...I mean...uhm I'll take the pack please." The woman turned around and he saw that her eyes were now a harsh icy blue, a startling change from her soft golden brown when he walked up. The Vantha woman's eyes were now sorrowful and he felt incredibly bad. He made the assumption that she had made these herself and he had insulted her work "I'm sorry...uhm I'll take a rucksack too. Their both of fine quality!" he said pulling out the mizas needed to pay the woman quickly and placing them in her hand. She gave a small smile and gave the backpack and rucksack to Kavak who carried them away. They were both certainly of good quality and would aid him in his ventures out to the wilds. |

He went through his list in his head and decided his next stop would be a weapon. He would want a shortbow, composite. If he was going to hunt a caribou or an elk he would be hard pressed to fell them with a sword. He saw a few weapons vendors selling swords and strange exotic weapons made of leather and steel. He searched for the bows and finally found the stand full of wooden elegance. The merchant strolled in front of the Vantha and made a disgusted sound. Kavak's eyes glowed a startling silver as his anger at this simple gesture grew. He despised the rude and didn't take kindly to the sneer the merchant wore. "May I help you...?" The Vantha merchant said. Kavak sighed and pointed to a standard composite shortbow, nothing special and not a horrible quality of bow, "I need that bow." The mechant loked at the bow and shook his head, "I need to see the money for it before you can have it" he said condescendingly. Kavak threw down the rest of his money on the wooden stall and said with venom in his voice, "I would like to see the bow now, and give me one hundred arrows while you're at it." The Merchant gave Kavak the bow and the arrows and began to count out the mizas he was supposed to get. Kavak was ready to humiliate the man for his rudeness. "I tell you what...Im not too sure about the quality of this bow. What do you say to a wager?" The merchant perked up and agreed to listen. "I get five shots and stand fifty feet away from a target. If I get a perfect bullseye I win and you give me a discount. If I lose I pay more than I owe." The merchant thought for a moment and took one of Kavaks hands studying it and nodding to himself pleased with something. Kavak assumed he was looking for callouses of an experienced archer...of which Kavak had none. The merchant almost immediately agreed and set up the target at once fifty feet away from Kavak.
He stared down the target that held his financial future in it's stitches. It was circular with a small yellow dot in the center surrounded by one singular yellow circle. Two other circles of bright red surrounded the yellow, then two of dark blue, then two of white, then two of black for a total of nine rings and the bullseye. His target of course was the small yellow bulls-eye in the center. His experience in archery was little. He wasn't a complete novice but he wasn't competent yet at the bow either. His sight was a straight line down the arrow tot the target as he raised the arrow and rested it in the middle of the bow. He pulled back the bow string and tried to release the arrow...however his fingers slipped on the string and the arrow flew ten feet and like a javelin found it's way straight to the ground. He gritted his teeth at such a stupid mistake. He often made such mistakes with his archery but this wasn't practice, it would cost him a considerable amount if he were to lose this bet. |

The target and the both of them were outside the falls market at this point as to not accidentally hit any would be customers. Kavak raised another arrow and without much of a thought...because he thought not thinking about the target or aiming would help...he released another arrow. The world seemed to grow silent and time slowed in Kavaks mind and senses as the arrow flew. It shattered at the edge of the target seconds later. He could hear the merchant's laughter in the distance and a shout from him, "Well no fear of losing this little wager of ours, but please do be careful not to mark the target up would you?" This angered Kavak further as he raised the third arrow suddenly and stared down the arrow shaft to the bullseye and let the arrow fly with a force he hadn't exhibited yet. The arrow flew through the air in an accelerated speed and shattered as it it the target. No one could tell where the arrow landed as it entered a an angel and shattered but it looked close to the bullseye. He sighed and tried to relax as he grabbed the fourth arrow, the merchants chuckling sill echoing in the air. He took a few deep breathes and drew back the arrow with the arrow in place and concentrated. He let the arrow loose and stood there, bow still raised as the arrow flew...and a wind picked up. The arrow drastically flew off course and missed the target completely laying to the side of the target. The wager came down to the final arrow. His fifth arrow was raised and the bow string pulled back. Like the last one he concentrated and let it fly once more, watching the feathers of the arrow in the back moving with the wind to stabilize the arrow. This time there was no strong wind to knock it off course and he closed his eyes to listen for the tell tale thump that meant he hit something. The thump came and he opened his eyes. OOCI left the result of the wager from the last arrow up to the storyteller as well as any discounts in this thread.Kavak paid the merchant what was owed without any emotion at all and the merchant was, what Kavak assumed, had his usual arrogant and self- important attitude. Kavak loaded the one hundred arrows into the pack and carried the bow in his left hand. He had to get some snares to hunt with as well, and that would be his next stop. |

By the time he found anything resembling a wilderness stall the merchant was packing up her wares. It was going to be sunset in a few hours and the woman was closing up shop just like a lot of the others. "Hey...can I buy some things before you close up?" She looked the Frostfawn over and shrugged her shoulders "I guess" she said not interested much. She had dark pitch black hair with silver streaks in it and her eyes seemed to reflect a special kind of boredom. Kavak picked up a small animal snare, big enough to fit a rabbit easily and held it up, "I want three more of these please." She nodded, yawned and set two more of the very small cages on the stall in front of him. He thought for a moment. The cages weren't at all defective or anything. He didn't know how he'd get the price down on these three. He shrugged and thought he'd go for the truth. "Hey, I'm a very poor Frostfawn trying to gt himself into hunting. What do you say cutting me a break and maybe down the road I could do you the same? She rolled her eyes and muttered something unintelligible as Kavak paid the amount she requested.
Kavak made his way back with his wares in hand and backpack and saw a sign that said deck in bright green letters. Kavak decided to go up on it, curiosity may have killed the cat...but what the hey he liked to explore. The view was amazing. He now knew where the market got it's name. There was a huge waterfall, frozen in motion. It was outstanding, the ice beautiful to look at. He always did like ice although the cold chilled him to the bones and he couldn't venture out in heavy snow storms. He smiled and took one last look att he magnificent sight before heading home to his Hold. |
