A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Winter 14, 315av

It had been quite a few days since the avalanche had occurred, and being someone who needed to get above ground to make a living, she had offered her services to help clear the way to the surface one more. After only two days however, the Symenestra woman felt the need to go hunting for something other than animals... warmer clothes. After all she wouldn't be much use if she was frozen, or sickly.

Synntina was wearing the usual today, a soft, grey colored, silken top with dark purple silk pants. And a small knapsack, tethered to her side with a few odds and ends. No shoes though, so the bare skin of her feet could touch the silken roads of the city her people called home. A city above the floor, but below the ground. In her eyes, it was nothing but beauty, and she respected everything about it. From the dim lights that shed only a small light on the detail in every woven house and building, to the vast nothingness that was often times, a question to all.

The woman was in no rush today, and made her way leisurely toward her destination. The weaving school known as The Weft and Warp. It was the one place in all of the city that she knew someone could help her find what she needed, for the right price of course. She didn't have much at the moment.. forty-nine gold mizas. Hunting was rough for her last season, as it was almost every fall for her. It was the season in which her father had disappeared, and was then found with an arrow through his chest. Fall was a season where she was almost always on her guard, and because of it, made bad decisions on when to shoot, or when not to. But never the less, she figured she could find something to keep her fragile bones from clattering.

She entered the building through the curtains of silk and down the narrow staircase. She did not feel compelled to say a greeting, because knowing the Anthurium family, they already knew she was here.

A Different Kind of Hunt ( Poison )

Postby Poison on January 4th, 2014, 9:26 am

After she had walked down the stairs, Synntina found herself in a round room that was filled with a pleasant, golden light. Silver lamps were attached to the walls, and soft carpets covered the floor. On most days Alessa Anthurium, the female owner of the Weft and Warp could be found here, instructing the weavers, but that day she was nowhere to be seen. Instead her cousin and former lover, Avarys Anthurium, the other owner of the Weft and Warp sat there, facing the weavers that were quietly making cloth of precious spider silk.

It had been a while since he had actively been involved in the Weft and Warp. He had recently spent more time at the Cobweb, where he had persuaded Kanasa Curare to allow him to dance in one of her productions, but he had begun to miss the weavers. Avarys Anthurium was handsome with his black hair and luminous violet eyes, but he had an unfortunate reputation.

He was something of a womanizer, a rebel, he aimed to provoke and occasionally sided with the Esterians, not because he agreed with their views, but because it made the establishment angry.

As Synntina appeared in the entrance to the main room, he immediately rose to his feet and walked over to her. A smile spread across his face and then he informed her, „You, my dear, look like a goddess, a pale skinned golden eyed goddess. What can I do for you?“

The soft light of the room was warm and inviting. As she reached the bottom of the stairs she looked around slowly, at the weavers and the decorations of the school/shop. Her golden eyes turned toward the man she only knew the last name of, having never been introduced to him properly. She walked over toward him, a small smile appearing on her face at his compliment before it disappeared again.

"Thank you for your praise."

She said, dipping her head very subtly to him. Her golden eyes met his own violet ones again and she continued, her voice very calm and serene.

"I was hoping you could help me in finding something warm. It gets awfully cold out on the surface this time of year."

She said softly, looking at Avery, letting a soft smile run across her face. He was something to look at, but she had heard that someone from the Weft and Warp liked to get in trouble, and she was almost certain this was him. Synntina lifted her arms and wrapped them across each other over her chest, loosely. She let her eyes once again wander around the school, the students in their long gowns of silk were working hard to learn. She was proud of them, nothing she could have the patience for. She needed to move, to do something with her body. She couldn't sit down for very long at all. Which was why she loved hunting. Even if you did stay still for a matter of time, it was all apart of a bigger adventure.

A Different Kind of Hunt ( Poison )

„I have to thank you“, Avarys replied. „The day is suddenly looking so much brighter. But forgive me. I haven’t introduced myself yet. I am of course Avarys Anthurium, the owner of this humble establishment. And who might you be, pale goddess?“

As he said those words, a couple of weavers looked up from their looms and giggled, and one even laughed. Another man might have gotten angry at being laughed at, but not Avarys. He merely turned around, gave the weavers a wide smile and remarked, „I’m glad that you think I’m fun, but now concentrate on your work again. It needs to be finished soon!“

He gestured for Synntina to come with him so that they could talk without interrupting the weavers. He took her into a smaller room where she could see countless bolts of finished silk that shimmered in at least a dozen different colors. There were also different kinds of fur that the Weft and Werp had gotten from the hunters at the Sickle and Arrow as well as wool and linen that weren’t as common as the other materials in Kalinor.

Avarys let Synntina take a look at all the different materials, and then he asked her, „What exactly do you want? A cloak? A coat? Gloves? Which material do you want it to be made of? You can of course buy clothes that are already finished or have something custom made. You only need to tell me, oh pale goddess!“

Synntina let her eyes continue to wander around the room until Avarys replied to her. He introduced himself officially, and after words complimented her again. She was going to reply when the sound of giggles and laughter came from the weavers who were stationed nearby. She glanced between Avarys and the weavers, amused by their short conversation but it barely showed. She nodded to Avarys and followed him, taking a small glance back at the students and offering them a fanged smile before it slowly faded again as she entered the room of colors.

All around there were different kinds of colors of silk and furs spread across the room. She reached out, touching the fur gently, running her long fingers and claws over the soft material before her attention was drawn to Avarys once again as he began to speak. He asked her what she really wanted, and to have something finished or custom made. After a few moments, she answered, her voice smooth and calm.

"I think a cloak would be fine for now, and adding a hood would be ideal. I need something lightweight but warm. I'm not sure what materials that would entail, you are the expert after all.."

Synntina paused for a moment, looking over the materials around her again, she ran the back of her finger over a piece of silk. Feeling the familiar material on her skin would always be comforting. She would always be reminded of the 'moon lit' city of Kalinor. Her golden eyes shifted from the silk back to Avarys as she spoke again.

"I'd also be curious into seeing what kind of scarves you have for sale. ... My name is Synntina by the way. Synntina Novul."

„I’m pleased to make your acquaintance, Synntina“, Avarys replied and bowed, as if she were a noble lady. „I’m afraid that I’m not very familiar with the Novul Web though. What is it that your parents do? Just out of curiosity, if you don’t mind telling me.“

He smiled at her, and then he listened to what she wanted.

„Lightweight, with a hood and warm. I think I have an almost finished cloak somewhere around here that fits your description. I’m making it for Silenva, the daughter of the ruling couple. Where is it?“ Avarys looked around the room and finally spotted the cloak in question.

“Ah, here it is!“ he exclaimed and showed it to Synntina.

It was a truly beautiful cloak, with cream colored silk and lined with the softest fur imagineable. If Synntina allowed it, he would drape the cloak across her shoulders so that she could find out first hand how light and warm it was.

„Would something like that be to your liking?“ he asked. „I can’t give that cloak to you of course – Silenva would complain – but I can make something similar. Silk is a little expensive of course, so if you don’t have a lot of money … how much are you looking to spend?“

„As for scarves, Synntina, I have scarves made of silk, of wool, even of fur to match that wonderful cloak here. I can make a scarf out of nearly any material and in whatever colour you like.“

OOCThe cloak looks kind of like that: http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/93/99/5f/93995f0576d478e1e86ea544c06d3531.jpg

Synntina looked over at him, her golden eyes bright and had a slightly curious look to the rest of her calm face. He asked of her parents and she smiled softly before replying to him, her voice smooth,

"My mother is an aerial dancer who remarried after my father passed away. He was the owner of a small sort of trade shop, but most of all was a hunter. Mother would always get worried for his free spirit, but he had always came back unharmed. Then one day he didn't return, a search party later found him up in the forest, shot through the back with an arrow."

The girl grew quiet for a moment, letting out a quiet sigh before composing herself again. She didn't mind letting others know of her parents, although telling about her father, even in the simpilest way she could, was still hard for her. Luckily Avarys had changed the subject back to her request for something warm. After a few moments he brought out a beautiful cloak that he had made for Silenva. She smiled softly, looking at it.

"It is truly a work of art Avarys. And I believe I should have enough to pay for something along those lines. To be completely honest I have a little more than 40 gold mizas with me at the moment."

She told him, and she really didn't mind spending it. The girl held a small smile on her face, looking at the cream colored cloak. She had not planned on buying much else anyway, besides the occasional food things and maybe some new hunting gear if she felt she needed it. The man then spoke of scarves and Synntina nodded, listening to him.

"Well if you wouldn't mind. I'd like something that could match the cloak. Fur preferably. And as for the cloak, could you make it in a dark violet color with white fur?"

She asked, a slight tilt to her head once her sentence was finished. Her voice always holding a smooth, and calm tone to it. Some could call it suave, but at the same time it wasn't for the fact that she was not trying to flirt with the man. She had never been much for romance anyway, at least not yet.

„What a coincidence!“ Avarys remarked as Synntina told him that her mother was an aerial dancer. „I’m a dancer as well when I’m not needed here. I have been in a few productions at the Cobweb recently. What is your mother’s name? Maybe I’ve met her and just never found out her name!“ He paused and looked at her, and then he suddenly realized something. „I’m sorry about your father. Growing up without a father must be hard. Did they ever find out who shot him? If you don’t mind telling me?“

Murder was an extremely rare occurence in the world of the Symenestra. Avarys hadn’t heard of any cases besides the one of Synntina’s father. Besides his murder there had only been an attempted murder about two years ago. The Moth Queen had bene poisoned, but fortunately there had been a healer nearby, and thus she had been saved. The incident had left the poor girl sickt hough.

„You look beautiful in it!“ Avarys remarked as he looked at Synntina in Silenva’s cloak. „You are different from Silenva, but it still suits you. All in all the cloak should come to 19 golden mizas, so the money you have will be more than enough. If you want it dyed violet though, it will come to 28 golden mizas. If that’s too much for you, we can probably work something out. I’d hate to make a pale goddess like you sad!“

„Now then, I think this scarf will be just right for you!“
He went looking around the room again and finally handed her a white scarf that was trimmed with fur.

Synntina looked over again at Avarys when he mentioned being an aerial dancer as well, she smiled. She had never seen him when she was practicing herself, but at the same time... she never paid much attention to anything when dancing. Just to herself, and her movements. After all, a fall could be fatal with their race's weak bones. She looked over at him with her intense looking eyes, her voice smooth as she spoke, and her body otherwise calm,

"My mother's name is Nassivin. I don't speak with her any longer, as shes been remarried and doesn't seem to want to speak with me anyway. So I apologize for not being able to tell you her new last name."

She said with a small dip of her head to further her apology. He asked about her father and she frowned for a moment before answering, looking away and back at the colorful silks. She leaned against them gently, running her hand over the material slowly.

"He died when I was 15.. so my mother only raised me until she remarried five years ago. And no they never found the culprit. I don't think it was a Symenestra however, the arrow they found was of a different make."

The girl told him with a small nod. Murder in the area was not a comment occurance, and her father was one of the first ones to die of it in a long time if she wasn't mistaken. But she didn't believe it was another of their kind to do it. If anything, she would have thought it a traveler leaving or coming to Kalinor. But at the same time, it would have been rather suspicious. She wished to find out one day, but she wasen't even sure where to start. Not to mention she didn't really want to leave the sparkling city under the ground.

As he spoke of the money she would need she smiled softly and shook her head.

"No no, 28 golden mizas is fine. I would never want to take something away from you that helps to fund your work, or the schools works. Everything you make here is wonderful after all."

She said with a small nod. Avarys left for a few moments then returned to her, handing her a white scarf trimmed with fur. She took it from him and ran her hands over it, a small smile coming to her face once again.

"It's perfect."

A Different Kind of Hunt ( Poison )

Postby Poison on January 14th, 2014, 6:11 am

„That’s too bad“, Avarys remarked as Synntina told him that she didn’t speak with her mother any longer and shook his head. „I know it’s not really my business, and I should stay out of the lives of other people, but if you want a bit of advice, your mother and you should try to reconciliate before it’s too late. I’ve already lost both of my parents. I wish I would have had the opportunity to tell them all the things that are on my mind.“

As Synntina told him that she didn’t think a Symenestra had killed her father, Avarys looked thoughtfully. The weaver had always had a rather overactive imagination, and he could already think of a hundred theories as to what had happened. „Maybe it was a human then“, he guessed. „Or another surface dweller that wanted to avenge the death of a loved one that had become a surrogate by murdering a Symenestra. To be honest, I’m surprised that we don’t have more angry surface dwellers on our doorstep.“

„But enough of that depressing talk. I’m glad that you find my work wonderful and are willing to spend your money here. You won’t regret it. The cloak and the scarf look as if they were made to be worn together! Of course you can’t keep this particular cloak since it’s Silenva’s, but I will make a perfect copy and send you a message when it’s finished.“

„The scarf is one silver miza and five coppers by the way.“
