Orabelle began to grow goosebumps, her skin against the Scalar's own made her nervous. She had never been so close to someone she just met. Although she could talk their ears off, she new to keep a respectful distance. He was very warm, the heat coming off his body was heating her up."I was not planning on it." She answered truthfully. Orabelle's days were never busy. Even on sea, although there would be a few times she had to tug on the rope but besides that, all other days were for relaxing.

"Yes, but that's what scares women off." She shut her mouth not wanting to offend him but she just couldn't resist."I mean, the bearing a child thing. It must,be scary to know you might lose your life?" She bit her lip as she waited for him to answer. This time she looked forward and began to walk, at a fast and steady pace. Orabelle was not sure how many women lost their lives to an Akalak child, and she wasn't sure how many konti women were around. Konti women were rare unlike the human women who were always around. If they caught a konti as a nakivak, she didn't think she would have a chance to escape. But they might consider human or mixed bloods because they're so fragile. If Orabelle's so fragile why did she want to do it?

She stopped and glared at him." Not all women are voluntary." Ora told him. It was her choice to consider being one. But for the ones that the Akalaks "rescued", why didn't they have the choice to consider? It's there lives and maybe they want to live it."I mean if you make it a choice maybe," Orabelle took a deep breath,"Maybe these women will realize it's not so bad and giving their life so a Child can live is..." Orabelle sighed and look at Favchean."Do you want a child?"

He didn't have a problem with her closeness or her arm wrapped around his arm. He was used to escorting various females around, his mother, Rosela, Lyn'nice just to name a few. He also had no problem with casual touches, though of course he never was inappropriate. So when they began to walk he fell in step easily, his free hand occasionally crossing to pat her hand that was linked with his arm.

Her words did not offend him, nor did they cause him any ire but they did amuse him. "Many Akalak who marry women other then Konti will take a Nakivak to bear him children to spare his wife. Though often times the wife will want a child of her own and will risk it anyway." Favchean explained, his booted feet making little sound even when they left the grassy area of the park and entered the streets. "Eypharian and human women tend to have the most difficult time with carrying to term, and post-natal death. One in four perish." His voice drops respectfully when he delivered that fact "It is all part of the gods keeping a balance on their children."

Favchean barely blinked when she glared at him and asked about the Nakivaks that were chafing under the title, though his brow raised. Troublesome ungrateful women, was his thought but he of course did not say this out loud. "The Nakivaks that are pressed into service are repaying a debt. These are not common but they are there. Akalak's die to rescue these women from a fate far worse then to be pampered by a Talvis for a year and bearing a child. They were rescued from an Zith cooking pot. It is little to as that they honor the memory of the Akalak who died so that they might escape. They are free except for that obligation, free to live their lives, free to work and take care fo themselves. Far more then they would have had we let the zith or other slaveres take them"

She stopped to make eye contact with him once again. Her tongue was stuck in her throat. It swelled with the question on the tip of it. Actually questions. She had a ton to asked the noble Favchean. But she did not want to come on strong or pushy. This was the first Akalak( and last) she would ever discuss and question about nakivaks. Because it was uncomfortable to ask question and Orabelle felt embarassed about her silly questions.

"Say if a nakivak... Not the wife, or no wife at all, wanted a child?" She asked with tension and excitement." Like, the nakivak joined to care for, and love a child?" Her hand tightened around the hand he was currently using to shield her from the cold and squeezed it."I know... and I'm sadly both." She paused and when she realized what she said looked up in panicked and tried to walk again.

Like always when Orabelle is in an awkward situation SHE caused, she picked words from the other person's mouth."So ziths cook people..." She bellowed. The woman did not want him to find out. Which is why she was questioning in a way he would not recognize."Hmm... How many Akalaks does it take to catch a zith?" Orabelle asked with a shrug of her shoulders.

Favchean would patiently answer her questions, they were not at all awkward for him. Especially if it netted the city another Nakivak. He could only assume that is why she was so interested, unless she was in cohorts with those troublesome Nakivak. Either way proper education would be the key to deal with that situation. "Feel free to ask all questions you seek to know about the Akalak. There is little that I would not be allowed to tell you, the rest if I know the answer I will answer." He said encouragingly, once more patting her hand on his arm.

"The Nakivak is not contracted to gain a child. She is contracted to give a child. It would be up to her Talvis if she is allowed to help rear the child, and often that is decided if she is willing and able to guide the child as an Akalak should be guided." Favchean answered her question smoothly, he had all the faith that it was only fair and just that the Talvis was the decider, he was the father after all and had contracted a woman willing to give him a child. "Akalak babes are very dangerous to their mothers, so most likely if a Nakivak gives birth to a live Akalak babe the Talvis would take the child for her own safety. Most would allow visits and such if asked. But an Akalak babe can not control its emotions and has been known to harm the mother if she was not quick enough to feed or answer its need."

This was another danger for Akalak's when it came to relationships. Females are so attached to the children that came from their bodies it is hard to make them understand it can be dangerous in the first year. "After that most Talvis, I imagine, would probably allow the mother more access to the rearing if, as I said, she was willing and able to uphold Akalak law and culture. There will be some who declare the babe his though and his alone."

Her sudden change of topic caused him to start just a little, and his surprise on his face showed plainly. "It is well known that zith take humans for food or slaves. Or to be slaves until they need food." He answered this question just as easily, if not a little bewildered. "Akalak's rarely capture Zith. They are only good dead. Those of us who have last names have completed our last rite by trial, which includes hunting and killing a zith. Zith are dangerous, but Akalak's train hard and can take a Zith in a one on one battle." He didn't mention. though, that Zith rarely fought one against one.

Orabelle was stiff as she waited for his response. But Favchean did not mind and seem to be open about the nakivak system. Since she had only arrived a season ago, she didn't knows how much Akalaks favored women. She didn't knows why they were so friendly or why they occasionally look at her wrist. Orabelle had to be the most clueless woman in Riverfall sadly, she went by what others said about the developed city. She was not big on reading either. She could simply got to a library and read about this handsome race but she chose not too like a petching idiot."I have lots of questions..." She mumbled under her breath.

"I would love to raise a child..." Orabelle groaned."I just want a child. Nothing else. No marriage or family." She took small glances at Favchean." I suppose I get it from my parents who've run from the thought of marriage." She giggled a bit."Maybe the pod too..." Orabelle began to day dream. A large, beautiful house on an island in the suvan sea. Tropical tree, plenty fruit and a beautiful view of the suvan sea. She'd be holding a child while the others acted as if they were knights or doctors or what ever kids daydream to be. She would be their Lia, their guide and mother.

"A child needs a mother. Doesn't matter how large or small it may be. A mother is very important especially to a male child." Orabelle rolled her eyes."I grew up without a,mom and look at me... I can't tell my left from my right." She paused for a moment." What about you? Did you grow up with a mom?" She hoped her questions did not effect him. Although she knew nothing about the akalak men, if they need nakivaks, how many had mothers?.

Favchean remained easy and relaxed, he noted her stillness, could understand her hesitancy to ask questions. She was a guest in Riverfall, she didn't understand the ways, but the fact that she was willing to learn was enough to make him want to educate her. Women were so rare, and rarer still was a woman who actively sought to learn about Akalak and the culture. "Questions are natural, you won't bore me or stress me, do not hold back. It does me good to hear a female who has questions about our culture."

He frowned a little about the fact that she wanted a child, only because it seemed to him that she wanted to be possessive of that child. Any Akalak who got a child upon her would not allow her to keep it to herself, help raise it yes, but she would not find an Akalak that would get a child upon her and then leave her to the child. "Perhaps you should just.. petition a few humans who would lay with you. That would be the best way for you to get a child that you can raise on your own. No Akalak will allow you to completely take a child to raise on your own. However many Talvis allow their Nakivak a hand in raising the child once it is safe."

Favchean didn't really consider what he had just suggested she do, that it might sound offensive to a female's ear. He truly wasn't meaning any offense, just offering a solution. "Yes, my mother was not Nakivak. She and my Father met elsewhere and she came to Riverfall as his wife."

It took awhile for Orabelle to realize what she said. But when she did, she wanted to beat herself up. Favchean calmly explained how hard it is for the Akalak to sire a child and she was talking about simply taking the child away. Orabelle hugged his arm."That's what I meant... sorry. In this case, I would try to negotiate. An Akalak child needs a father." She released his arm and began to laugh."Maybe I will start a human petition and have my own nakivak human." Her voice sounded playful as she made the joke.

She nodded as he mention his mother was not a nakivak."Just a guess but I'm assuming since your mother is not a nakivak and still alive, she's a child of Avalis?" She asked curiously. Orabelle had worshipped Laviku and his beautiful lover. She thought Avalis was a unique goddess who held something special. Something she rarely give to people who were not the talented and elegant Konti. She couldn't help but envy the special race. They were beautiful and each had their own special gift. Maybe in another life I will be a konti... Orabelle thought to herself.

"Konti women and Akalaks make a perfect couple, so I heard." Orabelle shrugged."But konti women bear konti children. Is it a fifty-fifty chance for both Konti and Akalaks?"

Favchean smiled, and let her arm go without a fuss. His hands moving to slip into his pockets to walk comfortably beside her. "I imagine that someone as beautiful as you would have little trouble finding a human sire for your children." Of course he didn't mention that it has been his opinion that many human men were pitiful excuses for fathers, too often absent and uninterested in the progeny they so easily produce.

"She is indeed a Konti, though there are some wives to Akalak who have children with their husbands that are not Konti and continue to live. One in four die in childbirth, but three in four survive." Favchean wanted to make sure this woman knows that bearing an Akalak child was not a death sentence, it just was more likely then if they were to give birth to human children.

"Konti have a little less then fifty percent chance to birth Akalak or Konti, for they have a very small chance to birth an Akontak that no other race has." Favchean explained, "Akontak are god-blessed children that are both Akalak and Konti."

Turning her face away, she began to blush a bright red color. Her face got hot and her laugh was more of a stammer."I don't knows too much about that Fav... everyone is in to different types. Actually some might find my... 'beauty' repulsive or unattractive." She looked back at him."Plus human men don't value a woman like the men here do. My father never did, in fact I believe I have a few siblings here who can testify to that."

"I believe konti women would be best suited for a wife and mother?" She asked."Konti's and Akalak are almost the exact opposite. But they do have a few things in common... also, Konti's live longer than human women." Orabelle sighed.

"Akontak? Akalak and Konti... but both! They just sound like a blessing. What do they look like? Do they have the beautiful appearance of a konti? Are they at a remarkable height like an Akalak?"She grew interest in the race. They sounded special and unique. Beautiful and exotic."I sometimes hate being part human because we are not as special as your race. "

"As everything in this world it comes down to perception." Favchean agreed with her, marveling at how silly human men seemed. He continued to listen to her speak and he shook his head slightly with a shrug. "Humans rarely value what they have, always seeking what they think they want. Often they forget that every coin has two sides. Do not hate what you are Orabelle. You are human, you are many."

He stopped walking, turning now to face her, his chin dipping because he had to look down at her thanks to his height. "You will be able to marry and not know that if fates are unkind and you live your full life span, even marrying the long-lived Konti would mean half your life would be spent without her. Even if you do not wish to marry, eventually you will find yourself lonely and want some friendships, some closeness." He bent now, so that his pale eyes were level with her dark ones. "You will be able to, should you decide against being a Nakivak, enjoy your pregnancy without the fear of heightened risks. I have heard of some humans having ten children! Ten!"

Favchean shook his head, and straightened. "No little Orabelle, being human does not make you less special. One might argue being human makes you favored."
