While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

"I guess so," he answered, his tone dropping from upbeat and excited to normal. He was really in the mood for a good fight and some exploring. Hopefully he would be able to have some fun in Sunberth, though. He got up and told Danovar he was going to do some exercises. "Meat is best eaten after a good workout," he said, leaving to a nearby clearing. He did his usual routine; push-ups until you could no longer hold yourself up, sit ups until your muscles felt like they were on fire, and squats until he could barely walk. The whole time he had been thinking nonstop about what the journey had in store for him. Hopefully it wouldn't be as uneventful as when he was going to Ravok.

Danovar just rolled his eyes and set a stone slab between the fire and the haunch of meat. A rather ingenious way of blocking most of the heat. He'd thought of it himself, actually. Though he was acting rather aloof about it, he'd never cooked boar before, and the mushrooms were a completely new concept. In principal, they should be edible. Cook meat. Boil...vegetables? Fungi are similar. Slightly.

Danovar placed a hand on the ceramic bowl. He pulled his hand back sharply, letting out a hiss as the hot material burned his hand. He stared at the pot with a vehemence not befitting of an inanimate object. What was this stranger doing, at any rate? This Geras. He peered over between the dense trees at the figure squatting repeatedly. He looked like a traveler. Looked like a warrior - and acted a bit like a lunatic. Or a psychotic.

Or perhaps he was hungry?

He blew a torrent of air through pursed lips. Sunberth. He owed money to a man there. A particularly sour human - or mixed breed, as his skin was slightly darker and lips fuller than the norm - to be sure. He was quite sure that the man would not sweat in the slightest at ordering his due execution. Though in all likelihood, he would fight his way to freedom, but confidence can only get on so far. He was a rationalist. Believing got you there, and skill got you out. There's a reason those with supreme optimism and belief that believing could allow you to get anything done were indefinitely either martyrs, or dead lunatics.

Dead lunatics. There aren't enough of them.

After an hour of exercise, Geras wobbled back to the fire and wolfed down his share of the meal. Everything was silent, save for the cicadas crying in the night. He left once again, this time to a nearby tree, and climbed it. He lay on his back upon what he considered the sturdiest branch. Danovar seemed trustworthy enough, seeing as how he hasn't tried to kill him yet, but then again, Geras wasn't the best judge of character. Hopefully things would turn out well in Sunberth, since he didn't want to be responsible for two people. He then turned his attention to the sky. The stars always amazed Geras, even though he saw them every night. There had been beings across Mizahar who could conjure elements, create civilizations, even meet gods; but he has yet to hear of anyone reaching a star. He quickly stopped himself from thinking too much about it, as usual, because thoughts were merely another distraction, and who knows what could happen to the unfocused.

((Sorry about how I'm shifting tenses every other post. I'm trying past and present out.))

Danovar rips the leg from the massive boar's body off. Brings it to his mouth. Bites into it deeply. Sweet, utter bliss. Nothing overly fancy, of course, but still. Wonderful.

Much better than plain bacon, really. With honey, spices, perhaps a bit of vegetation other than mushrooms on the side, it could be a grand meal.

Ah yes. The mushrooms. He sets the boar leg on the log unceremoniously. There was plenty to go around. He trudges over to the steaming bowl and lifts it, plunking a wooden spoon into it and scooping out several pieces of sliced mushroom. He looks at it hesitantly for a moment before putting the spoon in his mouth.

Actually, not bad. A bit rubbery, sure, but he wasn't exactly a master chef. Or a chef, really. He shakes his head, returning the spoon to the bowl. He gets to his feet and looks about. Where is that meathead? He trots to the edge of the glade and peers toward where the man had recently been working out. He enters the open and looks around.

"By the gods, he's disappeared. That's...odd." He mumbles to himself. He shrugs and stretches his limbs, beginning the series of sylaric military exercises taught to him by his father under his strict militaristic doctrine.

Geras awoke the next morning with the sun in his face. He groaned and rolled over, as he normally did in his mornings. Unfortunately, however, and slightly too late, he noticed he had fallen asleep in the tree. He fell with a shout and a thud, landing flat on his face. Now wide awake, he simply got up and brushed the dirt off his clothes. The day hadn't even started and he could already tell it wasn't going to be a fun one.

Danovar rolls haphazardly out of his sleeping roll and stumbles in to the open, grasping at his sword and pulling it open. He looks around with a livid look on his face, then spots Geras dusting himself off in the distance. He shoves the shortsword back into his belt and rolls his shoulders, throwing his hands up and stretching expansively. He yawns, and trudges over to the fire, beginning to pack his assorted cooking things away. With his things in their appropriate bags, he walks over to his horse and ties his cooking belongings onto it's saddle.

He wipes a bead of sweat from his forehead and sighs, moving amiably toward his tent and setting about taking the contraption down.

Geras did some quick warm-up exercises as Danovar packed up the camp, then left to tell him he was going hunting so they wouldn't have to fight over food again.

He wandered the forest looking for some game when, after a few minutes, he found a dead rabbit. He walked over to it and examined it. It wasn't rotten or decayed at all. In fact, it looked freshly killed. What luck! Geras thought as he reached over to pick it up. As his hand neared it, though, a net came up from below him, capturing him. It was a trap. He looked around to see some bandits coming out from their hiding place behind trees. Finally, some fun!

This was not the first time this had happened to him, so he looked at them and said," yer messin' with the wrong guy," and began to gnaw on the rope net. They looked at him like he was crazy, but this was only a distraction. It was times like these that he was glad he never used a sheath, as he squirmed around so that the blade of the large sword on his back rubbed against the net. Not long after, the bottom tore and he fell to the ground for the second time today and got up quickly. He drew his sword and said,"Alright, let's get started!" with a smile on his face that beamed with excitement. He was enjoying this.
