Vyvian tries to find other non-Viritas worshippers

A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Vyvian frowned from under his crimson hood as he watched the woman. She was... interesting.

He had seen her outside the temple to Viritas the day before. She was holding her hands on her heart, clutching.

His eyes glanced down at the floor darkly in thought. In his mind that was subconscious.. The great machine of his mind began to work, to understand this woman.

That day most of the shuffling masses were as described, their eyes dull with boredom, some looked on with what seemed half forced interest, they wanted to believe, because not believing would be bad. But this woman.. She shone out like a torch. Her eyes were bright, she looked upon the altar with fervour..

Back in the present Vyvian cleared his throat and spat on the floor..

She really wanted something didn't she.. some kind of role model.

Wiping his mouth, Vyvian scowled at a stranger who walked too close to him and scowled to himself a little anyway. He would find this woman. She was intriguing. More importantly, maybe Akajia would interest her as well. The goddess had certainly given him a purpose now. Rather than mope around all day in the ruins of Kalinor, he now... watched. Learnt. He was beginning to understand the sick nature of this city, how it thrived on death.. celebrated it.

One day.. he would change that. Akajia willing.

Climbing languidly onto a nearby roof he drew his knees to his chin and sat there, a little red scab on the roof, waiting.

---

Vyvian's eyes glittered through the mulling crowd as they went through their daily life. He watched a greying man leer at a younger woman as she walked past. The man adjusted his trousers and glared in the direction of the Nest.

Vyvian glowered.. Sickening...

Two young men shouted at each other angrily, throwing punches and slashes, crimson lines sprouting from their clothes. Members of the crowd pulled the pair apart, where a broken pot lay on the ground in between them. Bloodshed over possessions. A low growl grew in Vyvian's throat. He hated this city.

It was sick, and it was scared of him for knowing.

Then, amongst the bumbling masses, a much more confident, paler individual walked. She was like a comforting shadow amongst the glaring light to Vyvian.

She walked upright, proud, elegant. She gracefully passed around people while others moved out of the way for her, almost in reverence. Yes. That was her. She had the same manner, she was verdant, lively, she actually had something to live for.

A wry smile crossed Vyvian's face as he slipped off the roof, knocking someone sideways on the floor, who Vyvian gave no inclination of thought towards.

Time to follow this enigma then.

He pulled his hood deep down and began to follow the woman. It was easy now after his practice. Just keep an eye on her through the filter of the crowd, watch people move out of the way of where you know she is.

Eventually the crowd began to thin as Vyvian reached the residential area of Kalinor. People here walked more slowly, more at ease. He guessed it was because they felt closer to safety and knew the people in their immediate area better.

Still the woman paced before him, and still, at a distance, Vyvian followed.

His hood and manner of walking were beginning to attract attention however, probably threatening, so he shook his hood off, and pushed his hair messily back over his head, a boyish grin flashing across his face. He loved this so much.

Eventually they arrived at her house. Vyvian stood by the door, leaning on the wall as if he was waiting for someone in case anyone suspected him. He wanted to make sure that she was alone in her house, and that indeed this was her house in the first place. Glancing with one eye through the gap in the curtain, he smiled. Only one hammock and she hadn't spoken to anyone yet. Must be her house.

He spun himself around and straightened himself out, clearing his throat quietly. His hands trembled a little as he raised his hand to gently knock on the wall. Quickly he brought his hand back down, licked his other hand and ran it through his hair, straightening it out. Quickly fluffing up his jacket, he blinked and tried a smile that didn't seem too threatening. Preparation complete, he knocked politely.

"Uhh hello?"

Preaching to the Converted (Sayani)

The day before, she had gone to the Temple of Viratas. She had felt the need to go, to get away from everything, even from herself. When on the Temple, the Symenestra could let herself feel, clear her mind of thoughts and logic. Viratas wasn't the God she would give her life to, but he was a God, a powerful and ever present one, and Sayani could almost feel this power around her when she went to the Temple.

It was relaxing.

However, there was something that almost ruined her day. She had taken her drawing kit to the Temple, only to have someone steal one of her brushes. Well, she didn't really know if it had been stolen or not, but she was too careful, too cautious to simply forget about something. It wasn't an expensive brush, but it also wasn't something she wanted to loose.

There wasn't time to think about it, though, because she had needed to go back to the Place of Purging, to aid in a birth. She had slept in there, waiting for the signal that the labour had began. It was a surrogate, and no effort would be made to save her life, but Sayani wasn't there for the life of the mother. She wasn't even there for the life of the new-born Symenestra - there were enough doctors to take care of it. No, she had gone because she loved the birthing process, she was curious about it, and how it truly worked.

The time had come and gone, and the surrogate was now laying dead for someone to go and take her away, dump her in a place no one would ever see her again. And Sayani could return to her home.

There was no hurry in her movements, but she wasn't going slow, either. Her home would offer a quiet place for now, the kittens she had received earlier in the season not bothering her anymore. They were quiet, most of the time, and when they weren't all that took for her to change that was a little of food. They were good companies, silent, but always present. And her family would be out, each of them working. It was rare, these moments when the Symenestra had the house all to herself.

The silken roads of Kalinor started, and Sayani traveled easily through them, passing the few Symenestra that would be in the residential area at the time. Her house was further in the cave, in a quiet and tranquil place, not many neighbors around. In choosing the location, her mother had been really good.

Going towards the door on the top, Sayani opened and climbed down the silken rope, her bare feet finally connecting with the floor of her house. Like always happened, Aloe came jumping and meowing towards her, until Sayani took a nearby ball and threw it to him. Ivy laid quiet on the couch, the tip of his tail moving. So the cats had been fed not long ago.

The Symenestra went to her room, changing clothes quickly. She wanted to lay down and read something, maybe even play a little with Aloe. Before she could do anything, though, a knock was heard on the door, and she frowned. She wasn't expecting any visitors now.

Climbing the silken rope again, she opened the door, looking at a tall boy with white hair that was sticking out of some places, even if the boy had clearly tried to straighten it out. He was young, perhaps the same age as Nissa, and Sayani wondered if it was some of her friends. Or maybe something else.

"Yes?" she asked, not moving to allow him passage inside her house.

Vyvian's eyes unfocussed a little as he lost concentration.

"Uhhhm well I was going to lie to you and say I found your brush."

He pulled her missing utensil out of his pocket, licked his finger and straightened some of the hairs, then handed it to her handle first.

"But I actually stole it from you so I could use it as a conversation starter because I don't have the courage to approach you normally."

A ghost of a smile crossed his face, making his scar ripple a little.

After she took the brush he ran his hands through his hair before placing them thoroughly back in his jacket pockets, returning to his slouch.

"I came to talk to you because I saw you at the Temple." Pulling his ring off with the same hand it was on, he started spinning it on the end of his index finger.

"To me it was obvious you were different to the others." Shrugging, he elaborated.

"You get two kind of people in the Temple. One is people who turn up because they want to be seen as faithful, but honestly they couldn't care less. Viritas seems aloof and distant to them.

The other type are the people who act faithfully because they want something out of him. Most likely consolation with a dead relative, or praying for a child who is soon to be born. The two are obvious to discern. The first group just sit there like animals to the slaughter, biding their time; and the second go about their worship with such a fervour that only selfish reasons or insanity could explain their enthusiasm."

His eyes refocussed on Sayani's boring into her with his bored face.

"But not you. You're... different." he shrugged and smiled innocently, keeping his hands in his pockets.

His eyes shifted into Sayani's house and he caught sight of one of her kittens. Smiling warmly, despite the pain it caused him, he tapped his hood gently, his own kitten, still un-named, hopping out gratefully, before slipping past Sayani to meet its siblings.

"I'm just interested." he said, as if that's an excuse.

Sayani glared at him, her eyes dangerously focusing at the boy in front of her, as he admitted having stolen her brush from her. Yes, he was returning it, but yet, Sayani wanted to be sure that he understood that he should never, ever steal from her. If it was anything precious and special, she would not stop until he had paid for it, but a single brush was worth the effort.

"I hope this is a one time occurrence." her voice was low and dangerous, her displease with his action clear in her tone and stance. Sayani slowly reached for the brush, taking it off the boy's fingers, and crossed her long arms.

As the boy spoke for his reason to appear on her door, the Symenestra raised an eyebrow, watching him closely. It was unlikely he was lying, his anxiety too natural and involuntary to be fake. Which meant he was interested, and interested people rarely did something that would kill their chances to satisfy their curiosity. Which, in turn, meant that Sayani could expect him to behave.

Which didn't mean she would be relaxed.

His anxiety seemed to wave off when he began to tell her about what kind of people he saw on Viratas' temple. Interesting that his views would be very similar to her own, but that said nothing about him, and Sayani didn't like to know nothing. After he finished speaking, a cat appeared in his hood, and the boy released it inside her home. A kitten. Probably one of the siblings of her own two cats.

"What is your name?" she asked, simply, more of a command than a real question. And only after he answered it would the Symenestra allow him inside her house.

"I want nothing from Viratas because I believe in my capacity to get what I want, and I do not loose my time in meaningless activities just to maintain a facade for people I care nothing about." she told him, simply, her voice once again emotionless. "I don't see how this is of your interest." it wasn't a denial in talking with the boy. The fact she had allowed him inside her house should be indicative enough that she was willing to talk. But she also had no idea why her behavior and reasons would interest a complete stranger.

Vyvian raised an amused eyebrow and smiled wryly.

"You mean 'Lose'. Unless you plan on freeing your time from some ethereal prison?" he giggled innocently and hopped softly over the lip of her doorway, ignoring the silken rope and landing a little loudly on the floor, hands splayed to lessen the impact.

His eyes roamed hungrily over his surroundings, taking in every detail he could, looking for the shadows where things could be hidden from him, but finding nothing too serious.

"I'm Vyvian" he muttered distractedly as his mind was elsewhere.

Straightening up and forcing his shoulders into what appears to be a more relaxed position.

"You interest me because I am in a similar position. I am looking for a... companion is the only word I can find to fit the position. Seeing as I find myself incapable of any kind of relationship with any living being, I've turned to the deities to find myself someone to interact with."

He twisted a lock of his hair around his finger as he stared levelly back at Sayani, either completely undaunted by her or completely oblivious that she was hostile, with a slightly smug look on his face.

"Right now Akajia seems to be a good choice for me. She is a Goddess of facts and secrets, of night and shadows."

He shrugged innocently.

"It appeals to me."

"But I accept that the Gods are... selective. So I'm keeping myself occupied in looking for others."

He made a sweeping bow. Whether it was mocking, a joke, or politeness was impossible to calculate.

"And what about you Sibea?"

Preaching to the Converted (Sayani)

The childish response made Sayani hold back a sigh, glaring at the back of the Symenestra that just entered her house. She had committed a pronunciation mistake, and she knew better than to try and pretend it hadn't been one. But the fact that the boy had intruded on her house and was now attempting to correct her was angering, and Sayani had to force herself to relax. Engaging in a fight with this man would be of no use.

As the boy spoke his name and why she interested him, Sayani listened, an eyebrow raised in inquiry. He was smug, or he appeared to be, and his nervousness had been completely replaced by a now more relaxed stance. Sayani watched him, closely and carefully, not willing to let him do anything that she wouldn't see. His words, however, both amused and intrigued her. Searching for company on a God or Goddess? His way of thinking was a strange one, and yet, it looked like she had seen it someplace else. Not her own, though, that was for sure.

After his bow, one that she found more disrespectful than anything, and his question, Sayani crossed her arms, her eyes searching his face, looking for something inside his mind. Something of truth, not the face he wanted her to see, but his face. To her, he was nothing more than a boy scared to be left alone.

"What about me?" she asked back, her voice low, and an almost predatory smirk adorning her lips. "I think you are very, very wrong. We are not similar at all. You search the Gods for someone to interact, for a companion, as you put it yourself. How are you different from the people you so easily classified? Don't you want something from the Gods, too? Companion. Because you can't find it in those that live closer to you, you search for it and hope the Gods will give it to you. If one fails to, then you go and search for another deity. Is that so?" Sayani's smirk disappeared completely, her face suddenly serious, her glare intense.

"I'm nothing like you. I don't look for companions, either in people, or in deities. I look for someone I can serve. I look to give, not to take." she took a step forward, approaching the boy, towering over him. "Do you even know what I mean by it? The desire to find someone who is willing to take me as a servant, the desire to spend my life serving power, serving something I believe on. If I die, then I die. If I live, then I live. There is nothing more to it than that. I want a God to chose me, not to chose a God." her voice had became a whisper, and her face was close of Vyvian's, her eyes still intense with emotion.

"How am I similar to you?" she said, before finally taking a step back, her eyes not showing any other emotion, her face as if carved into stone.

OOCSorry for such a long wait. I had some problems and had little time for Mizahar. Also, I feel bad for everything that Sayani said, but, well, it's her. :P

If Sayani's face was carved out of stone, then Vyvian's was carved from glass. Completely impassive and unreadable. As she got more and more aggravated Vyvian remained motionless in his relaxed, slightly hunched position. His eyes stared blankly at her, through her. He drifted off as she talked on, his mouth parted slightly and his eyes unfocussed entirely. There was a brief silence after Sayani finished talking before he blinked, shoved some of his hair around, and refocussed on her.

"How are we similar? We're both selfish, for a start." a satisfied smile crossed over him.

"Why do you think you want to enslave yourself to someone else? Because it will help you survive? It's because it makes you feel good. Whether that's morally or emotionally, you gain pleasure from being used as a tool by the gods.

I gain pleasure for being used as a tool because I gain their company, and you gain pleasure because you're being used, whatever perverse reason that may be."

He narrowed his eyes slightly as he thought, before smiling with satisfaction. Extending his arm limply, he rested it on her shoulder, giving a slight squeeze while he look to one side. Then he squinted at her teeth as she opened her mouth in exclamation.

"Also, like me, you observe people, try and understand everyone through evidence and not through what they say. Sentient life is terrible for hiding the truth isn't it." he chuckled, looking closely at the contours of his nail and the slight indents on Sayani's shoulder.

"You're thin, your teeth are sharpened but not worn, and you look at me the same way I look at you. Not in the eyes, but at the eyes.

So from that I will guess that you never leave Kalinor, but you pride your personal appearance because you want to stand out to the gods. You say you don't care when you die, but if you truly didn't care, your curiosity would have spent more time outdoors, looking for evidence of the gods. You and I know you'll only find Viritas here."

He shrugged. "That's all a guess, and so is your take on me."

When Vyvian finished talking, Sayani looked at him for a moment, before letting an amused chuckle escape her lips. What a fool. If that was the impression she passed, then wonderful, that was exactly what she wanted others to think. Underestimate her. Not knowing her. Every thing she said and did was to make others think of her like that. If this boy did, then she had achieved something after so long.

Sayani allowed the amused smile to stay in her lips, as she crossed her arms and stared at him, amusement glowing on his eyes. She liked this, this guessing game.

"You're not a very good guesser." she said, playfully. For some reason, this amused her. No, not for some reason. She knew exactly why. "Yes, you're right in that I'm selfish. But we all are. None of us, no one I have ever met in my life ever did something only for the good of another. They help because they want to feel good, they do things to make them feel less guilty. Selfishness. The blatantly difference between them and me is that I don't lie to myself saying I'm not selfish."

"You start to go wrong when you say that I gain pleasure in being used. No, I do not wish to serve the Gods for pleasure. I create my own satisfaction. It seems contradictory, but once you thing about it, it's not." Sayani moved her shoulder gently away from the boy's hand, not very comfortable with the touch, but the amusement still clear in her face. "But where you go terrible wrong, is when you say I'll never leave Kalinor."

She walked towards one of the kittens, Ivy, that was laying on the back of the couch, looking at them with curious eyes. She petted him for a moment, before focusing her attention on Vyvian again.

"I don't care if I die serving a greater purpose. But I won't throw myself in the wilds. Not fearing and not caring about death is not the same as searching for it, boy. I know myself and I know my skills. I'll leave when I'm ready. And I'll serve when I'm ready. Pride is a stupid word, and a stupider feeling."

Sayani walked around the couch, sitting down, her eyes still glued on the other Symenestra. "Do you even know what I'm doing in Kalinor, boy?" before he could answer, though, Sayani continued. "So, Akajia. What can you tell me about her?"

Vyvian's amused eyes glinted a shade darker. Sayani had hit a nerve. His hair fell over his healed half of the face, and he looked a hint of daemonic.

"You call me 'Boy', but I really don't think you understand what I've lived through." shaking his head sadly, he sat cross legged on the floor and pulled his hood over his head sulkily.

"Going outside isn't suicide, Sayani, it just prepares you for the rougher parts of life. My face proves that."

"And of course I'm selfish I said so myself."

Sighing Vyvian plonked an old book in front of Sayani

"Actions speak more than words, so have this book from the Cribellum on her. From what I know of you I think you two would get along."
