In the Cobalt Mountains lies numerous ruins of destroyed settlements due to the Valterrian.

One ruin in particular, the remnants of a large keep taken over by plants and wildlife, was the resident of a wealthy merchant family along with their employees, servants, and retainers... until the Valterrian struck and the residents were forced to abandon the keep, but not without casualties. Though in ruins, some part of the keep still stands even to this day such as the main gates, courtyard, and the keep itself.

Stepping inside the missing gates, one will stumble upon a courtyard overgrown by wild plants with the occasional animals such as foxes, deer, and mountain goats. Typical of an abandoned large structure and nothing out of the ordinary.

The large double doors leading to the keep are still there, but kept opened wide. The interior of the keep is filled with cobwebs, dusty furnitures, and old paintings. As one walked the halls, they can see various doors leading to rooms, some broken, some intact, but all of them show clear signs of old age. The doors will lead to various rooms filled with abandoned furnitures. Strangely, the kitchen and one guest room in particular looked cleaner than the others, evidence of a resident living within the keep. There is a door that leads to the cellar and it is filled with various kinds of vegetables, further reinforcing the evidence that someone do live here.

There are secret passageways hidden behind cabinets in the rooms, but all of them have collapsed and blocked with large chunks of rocks. These passageways actually lead to an underground tunnel used for escape in case of a breach.

A ruined staircase leads to the second floor, but take heed because the steps are fragile and may break under enough pressure. The second floor is completely abandoned, nothing of note can be seen except for the occasional ghosts phasing through the halls and doors. The second floor is mostly filled with abandoned bedrooms and storage area, nothing of particular material value can be found here though if one seek to converse with the ghosts, one may do so.

A keen observer can see traces of footprints on the dusty stone floor and carpets. Also, for some reason, some of the candle-holders are filled with burning fresh candles, if one venture deeper, one can see the keep was not truly abandoned for a Priest of Dira resides there. His name is "Calidus Mortem", a quiet man who 'speaks' with gestures and rarely with words. He is here for a reason, and that is to help the spirits and ghosts of the... "Purple Forest" to move on.

ImageName: Calidus Mortem
Race: Human
PoB: Black Rock
DoB: 4th of Winter, 450 A.V
Gnosis:: 3 Eiyon
Skills: 80 Spiritism, 77 Weapon: War-scythe, 30 Weapon: Dagger, 55 Observation, 45 Leadership, 30 Socialization, 30 Persuasion, 35 Gardening, 25 Cooking

Additional Info: First and foremost, Calidus is a Priest of Dira, but opted to travel the world and help the dead instead of becoming an Omen.

Calidus is immortal due to being marked thrice by Dira and because of such, the man appeared to be in his late twenties despite being far older compared to his physical appearance. He has short dark hair and bright brown eyes that seemed to appear golden in bright light. The man usually wears dark clothing with a dark hood covering most of his features.

He appears as a stoic, no-nonsense, and logical man. However, he is by no means emotionless, he always welcome frequent visitors such as spiritists to the keep, providing them with basic necessities such as shelter, food, and drinks. The man may not look like it, but he fancies cooking in his spare time. His culinary works are subpar at best, but at least they are filling.

As an Eiyon, person who respects Dira and the cycle are always welcome, while Nuits and undeads will not be tolerated.

He carries a war-scythe on his back and two daggers hidden beneath the fold of his robes. His weapons are no more different than mundane steel ones, but in his hands, his war-scythe turned into a weapon containing a portion of Death's own power. Due to his mastery, he is able to imbue his gnosis into his scythe, creating a Death Scythe. The priest may cause immediate death to those wounded by the scythe and send the souls to Dira. Only few beings are not susceptible to this power, those are priest/priestess of other gods/goddesses, ghosts who have attained at least Master in one of their racial skills, and of course, Divine beings such as Alvina and the Gods/Goddesses themselves.

With this power, he is devoted to Dira's cause, he watches over the ghosts and spirits inhabiting the "Purple Forest", helping them to move on naturally. However, if a spirit or ghost becomes hostile enough to threaten the outside world, with heavy hearts, he will force them to reincarnate with his Death Scythe.

Purple Forest

Image

The Purple Forest is the name of the patch of woods hidden behind the keep's main structure, there lies an entrancing, if not eerie, isolated section of the woods, cut off from the outside world due to the keep's walls. It's actually the keep's large garden overgrown by wild plants.

This place is an infamous site for those who wish to relate with the dead such as Spiritists. Nick-named "Purple Forest" for its eerily purple atmosphere, the forest is teeming with stray spirits and ghosts, some tame, some hostile. No one know for sure why spirits seem to favor this patch of woods, one haunting rumor said that the Purple Forest is where the victims of the Valterrian that died in the Cobalt Mountains gathered, still held back by the various reasons and unfinished businesses.

One thing for sure, when a ghost or spiritist step inside the Purple Forest, they can feel the presence of numerous spirits, in the rocks, trees, and all around them. Even those who are not so spiritually inclined will feel their hair stand on ends at the sudden chilling sensation. Various phenomenons are reported within the forest, such as one explorer hearing the beautiful singing voice of a little girl echoing all around him, so entranced by the voice, he decided to rest his eyes... his life would have been forfeit if not for the presence of Calidus.
