Feels Like a Thumb in My....

Third day of Spring, 514 AV
"This place is really boring, Tav."
Misty gazes at all the scrolls and books. She was a person for knowledge and whatnot, but for heaven's sake, this place smelled boring. She knew that Tav had to practice his glyphs and everything, but couldn't they do it somewhere a little more.... Fun? At least somewhere she could practice using her Res without people glaring at her for making too much noise. While she.... Forcibly became a Reimancer (an experience Misty would like to avoid thinking about), she was ever the optimist, and decided if she had the ability, she was going to use it. It was a tool, meant to be used, regardless of the people who had forced it upon her.
"Tav, I'm going to look around and see if there are any stories in here. All this theoretical glyph-whatever yawn boring stuff is making me tired."

Feels Like a Thumb in My....

Postby Tavil on March 1st, 2014, 9:40 am

As I look up from the books, I hear Misty whine yet again. Giving a slight laugh at her childish behavior, I speak with a smile. "Go ahead and find something to read, Misty. Just don't wander off too far, okay?" The accent from my native Pavi language is still prevalent, but I feel that I'm getting better at speaking the common language.

I look back down at the book before me. The study material here in the Wizard's Thumb is quite incredible. Leagues better than what I had access to in my captivity. Intently, I study the theory of glyphing, looking over diagrams and examples with fervor. This discipline may have been forced upon me, but I still find it quite interesting. I may even have a better use for it one day.

Setting the book on the desk before me, I begin motioning the patterns for my own runes, tracing them on the table with my finger. Seeing the windmark upon my hand, I lose focus, and my thoughts turn to home. Bah. What am I doing? I think as I catch myself staring at my own hand, mouth slightly agape. Chuckling at how odd I may have looked, I search for materials to practice.

Misty looks back at her friend. His mouth is open. Okay then.
She turns back around at looks at the books. "Glyphing, glyphing, glyphing.... What a boring discipline." Her search yielding no results, Misty heads to the window to look outside.
The sun is bright. It feels warm for the first time in a while; it feels good to be alive! Spring was coming, and it was exciting! "Res, djas abaset!" Feeling that her joy was too much to keep inside, Misty casts a bit of Res, just on the tip of her finger. Of course, this only creates more euphoria; she is very careful about not casting more, of course. Even though the wizards were her captors, they did not want her to die; they had warned her very seriously about overgiving. Instead, Misty contents herself with messing with the air outside.
"Abase, djas heat." MIsty collects some air around her finger. It causes a slight draft around her, but she doesn't think anyone notices. It's a very tiny amount of Res, after all. Her captors had taught her a few words from the "Nader-canoch," enough to use incantations to focus her thoughts on her casting.
Misty decides to return to Tav. Maybe watch him draw some glyphs. She loves the patterns they make; while others may think of the power stored in them, she enjoys appreciating the beauty.
"Res, abaset." She turns the Res into air, and goes back to her seat with Tavil.

Feels Like a Thumb in My....

My focus breaks as Misty sits next to me, looking both happy and bored at the same time. "Your restlessness reminds me of my little sister." I say with a laugh, patting her on the head. I then begin to think. Hmm... What could I do to make this more entertaining for her? A simple idea springs into my mind. "How would you like to help me practice? You've seen the effects of my glyphs, but would you like to feel them?" Gently, I grab her right hand, extremely small in comparison to my own, and a quill from the desk, dipping it in an inkwell. As quickly as I can, I scrawl out a large focus rune on her palm. Then, after renewing the ink on the quill, I take her left wrist, and, after a minute or two, manage to make a rudimentary barrier glyph encompassing it. Inwardly, I cringe at the barrier. It is shoddy, only being able to slow the flow of djed, but it will suffice. "This is what I am studying, little Vantha, and it could be quite useful. Now. Try your magic with each hand. Separately." I sit back, watching with a smile on my face and my arms crossed.

Misty raises her eyebrows at Tavil. "The left one looks a little wonky. You sure it won't kill me?" Smiling so Tav knows she's joking, Misty looks around. What to do.... Ah!
Taking a small paper and folding it, she makes a bird with large wings. "My dad showed me how to make that." Misty runs over to the window. "Res, ruwe heat." Putting small dots of Res on the underside with gel-like Res, she lifts the bird and throws it. Just before it goes out of her range, she says "Res, ala abaset." The burst of air lifts the paper bird high into the sky. It glides for quite a ways; Misty watches until it is out of sight.
"Well that was fun. I did notice that it was easier to cast. Thanks, Tav! What's this second one?" Raising her hand, Misty casts a little Res into the palm of her hand.
Or at least, she tries to.
"Tav, what the heck?! I can't use this hand for casting anymore!" Misty tries again, concentrating harder "Res, djas alat!" A large splash comes out. Suddenly, the want to cast more becomes near unbearable; this is the most Res she'd cast since she and Tav escaped. She tastes metal, and she feels her heart begin to beat faster. "Tav, I think that's enough casting for now. I'm going to find a book."
One catches her eye; "Phenomenon Around Nyka? It looks interesting, at least." She picks it up and sits again, her heart still quickened from slight overgiving and fear.

To my surprise, she makes a bird out of paper for the first demonstration. I'd never seen someone do that before, so it was interesting to watch. I can't help but be proud of that first glyph once she casts her spell, making the bird soar. The second attempt was more hilarious than anything. I laugh as she tries to cast with her left hand, and laugh even harder at the surprise in her face as she breaks through my crudely made barrier.

Seeing the slight worry in her face after casting, my laughter dies down, though a smirk remains on my face. "You'll be fine, Misty. Just be sure to wash that ink off your hands before you try to cast anything else. Enjoy your book. I will return to my own." Picking up the text in front of me, I begin to transcribe runes from book to paper, a smile still on my face. I'm glad to have a little sister once again. I think to myself.

"I'll make sure to be more careful next time. And I need to wash this off of me. I think I'll keep the one on my right hand for a little while though. It makes things easier. Thank you!"
Settling down to read her book, Misty opens the first page and begins reading. Words begin swirling around in her head; Knocker, Lecher, Whispers, Hallucinations. This place was crazy; there were mystical places, absurd people, and even more absurd magic. All too much for her. As she reads, her eyes get heavier and heavier.... Closing them for a bit wouldn't hurt; after all, Tav was right there. Misty drifts off into sleep.

Feels Like a Thumb in My....

Postby Tavil on March 1st, 2014, 11:10 pm

Several hours had passed, and I'd been lost in my study. Looking up, I check on Misty, seeing that she'd fallen asleep. I chuckle to myself and stand up. Taking the book from under her hand, I walk back to put it away, reading a few pages myself. It's interesting, but odd. Not the book for me. I put it back on the shelf and return to my studies, keeping an eye on Misty.

As I sit, I realize how uncomfortable I feel in my clothes. Why did they have to take my clothes from home? This fabric doesn't feel right. With a sigh, I decide to find something better suited to me next time I have the chance.

Feels Like a Thumb in My....

Postby Misty Snowsong on March 1st, 2014, 11:29 pm

"Zzzz.... Snghk!"
Misty falls from her comfortable chair in her sleep. "Tav? Tav!" Somewhat disoriented from her sudden awakening, Misty looks around bleary-eyed for her friend. There he is, sitting where he was when she fell asleep, still practicing his runes. Misty takes a minute waking up, staring at the glyphs. Up, down, around. They confuse her. Shaking it off, Misty picks herself up off the floor, trying to ignore the glances she's getting from the other practitioners around. Misty shakes her head "What a nap." While she often tries to avoid using her abilities for mood improvement, she feels like she could use a bit of a pick-me-up; besides, she needs to practice her reimancy more anyway. Concentrating, she tries using it without an incantation. She allows it to come out the palm of her hand, where the focus rune still stood. She needed to get Tav to put one on her other hand. It made casting much, much easier. Course, there was still that barrier. She needed to get that off.
But for now, she'll have fun with the Res. Before transmuting it, she allows it to fly around, making shapes. Quietly, of course. No use distracting the angry looking glyphers around. There were more than there were when Misty fell asleep. They must have been off celebrating the new year.
With whispers of "ruwe," "heat," and "ala," the res zooms around at Misty's will, making sure that it never goes too far out of reach. Becoming bored, she tries manipulating it more than she ever had before. If she can remember the word.... "Ya... Yak.... Yaqat?" The res wobbles slightly in the air before disappearing. Disappointed by her failure, Misty stares dejectedly out the window.

Feels Like a Thumb in My....

Postby Tavil on March 2nd, 2014, 12:01 am

Looking up as I'm called, I'm greeted by the sight of Misty falling from her seat. Laughing, I scrap my work and walk over, watching as she practices her own magic. Seeing the disappointment in her face as I draw near, I speak. "You've made me laugh far too much lately." I pat her on the head, trying to cheer her up. "Don't let failure disappoint you, little Vantha. All it takes is practice." I look out the window as well, staring at nothing in particular. "What would you like to do? I've gotten my studies in, and I can practice this whenever I like."
