Day 1 of Spring in the Year 514 AV
Kel had to mull over Tydus’ words as they walked along the streets of Riverfall. Tydus, he trusted completely. They had a long history that extended back to their youth. Their pods used to be closely entwined with one another as they sailed up and down the Suvan Sea Canal. The two pods weren’t always together but they visited each other frequently enough to cause a strong bond to quickly bind the two unlikely Svefra children together.
Kel had always had a hard time making friends. He was blunt, rude, arrogant, foolhardy, stubborn and cocky. But he was also loyal, strong, fearless and dependable. Tydus was the only one who ever seemed to see through the long list of flaws in Kel’s character and into his heart. There was never any words spoken between them, they had just clicked. No one forced them together, it just sort of happened.
Tydus had intrigued Kel. The first time Kel saw him as a young boy, he saw something in the child’s eye. A glint. It spoke volumes about who he was as a person and even though Kel didn’t know what it was, he felt irresistibly drawn to him.
They both were outcasts of sorts among their own pods, each in their own way, so it was only natural for them to be drawn together. When the other young Svefra children attempted to make fun of them, they were quickly shut up when tempers flared and fists were thrown.
Their relationship grew as the years past. They found themselves in each other’s company more often than not, their antics growing more and more ridiculous. Their strengths and weaknesses complimented each other well and they learned how best to operate together. Kel was usually the brawn and Tydus the brains, both well suited to their task.
Kel shook the memories of the past out from his head. His thoughts shifted to more present issues. The other podmate. He vaguely remembered the name, Adney, but had never met the kid personally. He was reluctant to allow someone to live on his ship that he didn’t know but Adney had two things going for him. One, he was Svefra and two Tydus vouched for him. Kel trusted Tydus. He knew he was going to have to rely on Tydus’ judgment in this.
Kel looked up, finally zoning back in after having been lost in thought for so long. The silence hadn’t been awkward, they were both comfortable with one another and at ease. They stood in front of the Suvan Suites, warm lights flickering in the windows. The moon played hide and seek among the clouds, teasing them with light before plunging them into semi darkness.
Kel gestured towards the door, “After you. Lead the way to your podmate. Let’s meet Adney.”
